KUALA LUMPUR: More than 40,000 bank employees will get a windfall of between RM3,700 to RM12,000 each in arrears, following the conclusion of a collective agreement (CA) between the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) and Malaysian Commercial Banks Association (MCBA). NUBE General Secretary, J. Solomon told Bernama today that part of the arrears would be paid before Hari Raya and the balance within 60 days from yesterday, when the agreement was signed. He described the CA effective from Jan 1 last year to Dec 31, 2011 as the "best in the history of NUBE" because it broke new grounds and employees would enjoy new benefits. Among the new benefits were 90 days of maternity leave effective from yesterday (Aug 10), cost of Living Allowance (COLA), increase in retirement age from 55 years to 57 years and medical benefits of up to RM25,000 annually extended for three years after retirement. Other benefits would be an across the board nine percent increase in salary, 21 percent increase in annual increment and 20 percent increase in meal allowance. Solomon praised the association for the smooth negotiations and conclusion of the agreement in less than a year. He assured that the workers would work hard to increase productivity. Meanwhile, the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) in welcoming the agreement urged employers in other sectors to emulate the financial sector and also provide extra benefits for their workers. "We would especially call upon the manufacturing and plantation sectors to provide better work conditions and benefits to their workers," its Vice President, A. Balasubramaniam said.

Thank you nube.. Submitted by bank workers on Thursday, August 12th, 2010. reply

Thumb down for 90 days paid maternity leave unless the 3rd 30 days in unpaid leave. Employers have been screwed. Why cant Malaysia follow like in Europe/US/Australia where extended maternity leave is allowed under no paid leave? Malaysia choose to follow 3rd world mentality. sad case.
