Executive Summary
At the outset my best wishes to you. I, Jasbir Bijendra Bhati, an aspiring film maker always wanted to make a film which touches the reality grounds and the society at large. BHOORI will be my 1st film as independent director after having a successful 7 years in Television Industry as Director for production house like Balaji Telefilms, UTV, Creative Eye etc. The urge to make this film is to bring out the neglected and naked truth of society with a strong and much needed Universal message. The Story

Even before she could realize her puberty, she was married to Dhanua, a 34 year old man working as a Labor in one of the illegal mines like thousands of others. Unlike other brides life wasnt hunky-dory for her. It was a 15 miles walk from her village to her husbands. Half of the face covered with a stole, looking at her feet (colored orange with henna) on this endless path, Bhouri kept following her Master like a meek tame. Several dark hours of the night till the dawn had turned Bhouri into a woman bearing all sorts of pain and trauma. The condition of the tribal labors working in these illegal mines is such that they undergo all sorts of exploitations by their supervisor and employers for their two meals a day. Despite this Dhanua was happy today. He had a beautiful wife at home. Ajmer Singhs brothers Bhopal Singh and Gaya Singh were arrested under

IPC section 376 and 302 for Rape and Murder and were sent to jail. Months passed, there had not been any rape in the village since then, but the exploitation of the less privileged women continued. No journalist bothered to show that as this wasnt as sensational as the rape and murder for which their channel got good t.r.p ror a couple of days. Bhouri by now was well aware of this fact that most women in the village sleep with some influential men in the village. A dusky rustic beauty as she was, several men tried to woo her, some even offered money in return but Bhori always ignored them. Why dont you bring your wife along to work? You can double your income, said the manager of the mine. Dhanua was helpless, he knew that his wife was beautiful and the dominating class is trying in every way to bring her onto their beds,

like they do with the other labor class women in the village. Dhanua could hardly drink. The first attack of cough in the morning had alarmed Bhouri as this time he had puked some blood in the glass of water given to him. Dr. Tiwary was a man of principles when he started his practice in the village, at least thats whet he used to say. But being a widower at the age of 39 and after being in a place where women were available even cheaper than a strip of Ranbaxy Capsules, his principles were long lost. Bhouri reached the chamber next morning to collect some more medicines for her ailing husband, as told by the doctor. Dr. Tiwary got up from his chair and held Bhouris hand. While she was just thinking on how to react, Tiwary broke the news to her. Dhanua was HIV positive. He explained her about how fatal these three letters are and how it

can be transferred or passed on sexually to someone. Soon the whole village knew that Dhanua has AIDS, a disease which was highly communicable to them. His charpoy was laid outside the village under a banyan tree. He was strictly not allowed in the village. Bhouri was given the clean chit by the doctor saying that shes fine but only shell face the repercussions if she continues keeping relations with her husband. To maintain the stable income of Rs. 70 per day and to keep her husband alive as long as she can, Bhouri started working in the coal mine. Why working for 70 when I can give you 700 for a day? Soren was the first to come with this indecent offer. Hit the poor where it hurts most and youll be his master. The expert comment came from Mohant Ji. Soren got the hint. Dhanua didnt know about the disease he was suffering from. He

only knew that this was communicable and incurable. He was aware that hell die soon. Shekhar was a documentary film maker from Delhi who had come to do a research work on the labors and mines. Though Bhouri couldnt understand a bit about his profession, all she knew was that hes a sahib from the city who had once offered her money at the eatery. He wanted her to answer some of his questions which were mainly about the mine she was working in. Though Bhouri was illiterate but she was still a woman and could sense that this man was harmless. However she didnt respond to any of his queries, mainly because she was scared to say anything about her employers and partially because she had to rush to her starving husband. He asked few questions but Bhouri s answers were of least help to him. Shekhar thanked her and gave her Rs.100/- for helping him. I helped

him! she said with a pride after a pause. Bhouris association with Shekhar or the cinemawala babu sahib as the villagers called him, was no longer a secret. All the men in the village eyeing on her knew that their soft target was now not as soft as they thought her to be. And all this was just because of one babu sahib who is an outsider in their village.They through babu out of village and Dhanua too through Bhuri out of his house as she had relations with babu. Now Bhouri is alone. how long she survive.. after 7 days. You said. You can give me 700 for a day! Bhouri succumbed. Soren was her first customer and then several others followed. Soon she became the most famous prostitute in her area. She had a new name now: Saat sau wali (Available for Rs. 700/-) Dhanua was as helpless as he was always, though Bhouri, with good earnings

now, was taking better care of him. Seven years had passed since her first 700. Ajmer Singhs two years old daughter was crying continuously that night, she had fever. Despite several home remedies and Tiwarys medicines, the temperature wasnt going down. The blood samples of the baby girl taken by the doctors of the civil hospital for the diagnosis of malaria bought them a shocking report. Padam Singhs fifteen year old daughter was HIV Positive. The next immediate step that doctors took after that was to test Padam Singh and his wife. They too were found no different. A camp was put up in the village for a routine check-up of villagers. To their surprise 1800 people in the village of 600 were found HIV positive. Something which was even shocking for them than this was that the man who had been thrown out of the village saying he had acquired immunodeficiency syndrome was

suffering from a curable disease called tuberculosis only. The birds sitting on the tree near a house got scared and flew away. A prolonged plaintive high-pitched cry of pain and grief was heard in unison. Women were wailing. Like everyday, today also someone died in the village. Dhanua, still recovering from tuberculosis had started working in the mine of a nearby village. Bhouri, in that faint yellow light, looking more palely, died with no one around. Shekhar, lying on the hospital bed (Delhi), with few more days to survive

PRODUCT PLACEMENT
Product placement, or embedded marketing ,is a form of advertisement , where branded goods or services are placed in a context usually devoid of ads, such as movies, the story lines of television shows ,or new programs . The product placement is often not disclosed at the time that the good or service is featured. In april 2006,Broadcasting and cable reported two third of advertisers employ branded entertainment _product placement _with the vast majority of that (80%) in commercial t v programming the story based on a survey by the Association of National advertisers, said reasons for using in show plugs varied from stronger emotional connection to better dovetailing with relevant content to targetting a specific group. Hero Cycles is the only brand that has been placed in GURU, which can spotted while watching the film.

In_ film branding aims at brand visibility . Sublet forms of the film branding existed in movies since long time. Currently, almost 25%of the bollywood movies employ branded entertainment. The association of films and brands is age old,with marketers traditionally using film stars as brand ambassadors,but only in the last 2-3years have marketers treated cinema as a full fledged for brand communication. Brands now look beyond celebrities and advertising and are doing much more like product placements and copromotions .Marketers have started weaving brand personalities more tightly into the brand/activation themes.
