The World Health Organization expert Committee of Nursing defines public health nursing as a special field of nursing that combines the skills of nursing, public health and some phases of social assistance and functions as a part of the total public health program for the promotion of health, the improvement of the conditions in the social and physical environment, rehabilitation of illness and disability. Family is the basic unit of a society. So a healthy family contributes to a healthy community. For all Filipinos, they get their support and strength and motivation from their family. So they view family as a center and inspiration for their lives. Family is composed of a father, mother and children. Since the family is the basic unit of the society, it is the indicator of heath in the community. A healthy family means a healthy community. A sick family would lead to a sick community. Each family is really vital in the community health nursing. Familys success mirrors in the community. It is the basic unit of the community, a most important unit of all mankind. It is the core around which great nations are built. It is the foundation of any great society. A family performs two major functions, which is reproduction and socialization, they are of many things, but most of all, a family is a group of human beings working to build something beautiful and lasting. A family is a colony of heaven right here on earth. Part of our role, as a health provider is to promote health and prevent illness of the family. There are various factors that affect health. All factors must be considered in order to provide holistic care to the family, thus promoting physical, emotional, and spiritual welfare.
This study of nursing practice in the community utilizes a number of processes to respond the health needs and problems of clients; manage health programs and resources; and influence decisions that affect the delivery of health services. Home visits and family interactions were initiated to identify nursing problems of the family. Eventually nursing interventions were identified and rendered appropriately. So basically, the nursing process is being utilized. This study analyzes the interplay of the different factors that affect the familys health. However, the study is limited depending on the information being disclosed by the family members and other sources and based on the objective aspects as the family is being observed and monitored. Through constant interaction, the factors that affect the family health were identified and appropriate interventions were done utilizing the nursing process. As a student nurse, it is our goal to promote health, to impart what we have learned in school about health and wellness and to empower the community people to maximize their abilities to achieve an optimum well being. My interaction with the family has helped me to appreciate the essence of community health nursing. They played a special part for us to become an effective health care provider. In one way or the other I have helped them and in turn they have enriched my learning. I am indeed grateful for their understanding and their cooperation.

Community Health Nursing has been a part of every student nurses life. It is a nurses duty to bring to the people the health programs of the government. To provide immediate health care to the community peoples health problems before going to the higher health care facilities. Prevention is our primary task so it is our duty to do every means in order to educate the people. The home visits gave me an opportunity to provide care to the family, we were able to provide the family the care that were needed by them as well as provide health teachings that may enhance their skills and knowledge in promoting health and preventing illness. This also provided me to interact and immerse myself to the condition the family and to the extent of the community situation. Even if active participation was not so enhanced by the family towards community involvement because but this did not barred us from providing care to them and actout necessary intervention towards positive outcome.
