THE LEANING TOWER OF TELUK INTAN

PURPOSE According to a research, the purpose of building the leaning tower or also known as Clock Tower are as follows:

WATCH STRUCTURE
LOCATION Located in the middle of a large square area surrounded by Jalan Pasar, Jalan Ah Cheong, Jalan Selat and Jalan Bandar.

STRUCTURE The strong influence of Chinese architecture can been seen because the concept is more towards Pagoda. This is due to the influence of the benefactors, contractors and Chinese population at that time in Teluk Intan. This is vivid by looking at the minaret. For example, the curve of the arches, roof, tiles and others show the abundance of Chinese architecture. The structure gives an impression of 8 storey seen from outside. But, it only has 3 storey. The height of each storey is 5 meters and there are 110 steps to reach the top. Each floor has a 1.8 meters width lane and 0.6 meters width walls decorated using green stones. The building is made of bricks and wood. The precision of the work is an adaption of the usage as a water tank. It is on the third floor and is made of steel with 5 metres height and 18.36 cubic metres. The foundation has a 13 metres diameter and gets tapered with diameter of 8.2 metres. FACTORS OF LEANING The main reason for the leaning is due to soft ground. Another factor is due to the water load and it leans towards south west.
