"Omshatamaanam bhavati shataayuH puruShaH shatendriyaH aayuShyevendriye pratitiShThati" This Vedic verse is normally used by priests and scholars to give blessings to people. This means "live for hundred years", because of the presence of the terms "shata" (hundred) and "aayu" (longevity). (taken from Vedic Wisdom authored by Shri. P.V.R.Narasimha Rao)

The resounding success of ELECTRO-ELITE-2K10 a national level technical symposium organized on Laqshya campus.
LAQSHYA Institute of Technology and Sciences, sported festive atmosphere for two days i.e. on 22nd and 23rd of October 2010. On the morning of 22nd October the college started buzzing with activity and the colorful digital banners welcomed the academic community and the dignitaries visiting the college to be part of the prestigious event ELECTRO-ELITE-2K10 a national level technical symposium. The main venue was a huge and impressive tent pitched in the precincts of the campus. Many students from other engineering colleges came to LITS to participate the program. Some stalls were opened near the main venue where students could play various games and win the prizes if they get lucky. The Inaugural ceremony started at around 10am with the advent of the chief guest Dr. Nageswar Rao the district collector of Khammam and the guest of honor Dr. J.S.R. Subramanyam who is a former professor at Birla Science Centre. The guests and the college officials were invited on to the dais and the program started with the prayer song. One after the other, all the college officials namely Shri. G.Tirumala Rao (Chairman of LAQSHYA Group of Colleges), Shri. Srinvas Koppuravuri (Secretary and Correspondent), Shri. Buragadda Krishna Mohan (Treasurer) and the Principal of LAQSHYA Group of Colleges Dr. K. Raghuram delivered
their messages. Speaking on this occasion the chairman of LAQSHYA Group of Colleges and the Chief patron of ELECTRO ELITE-2K10 Mr. Tirumala Rao stated that maintaining high standards in technical education and ensuring the bright future of the students are the guiding principles of Laqshya. Then the chief guest of the inaugural ceremony Dr. N. Nageswar Rao in his address emphasized the need to take the technology to the masses and make it useful to the wider society. He advised the student community to concentrate on using their creative abilities Page | 8 and make new inventions. He advised the students to derive inspiration from the legendary engineers like Mokshagundam Vishveshwarayya and Dr. K.L Rao and pursue excellence in their specializations. Delivering the keynote address, Dr. J.S.R. Subramanian former professor at Birla Science Centre showered praise on Indian students for bringing reputation to the country all over the world. He emphasized on acquisition of wide range of knowledge and mastering the skills including communication skills to get the best opportunities available in the job market. The events started in the post lunch session and went on till 7pm on the first day. The events resumed on the second day by 9.30 am and went on till 5pm. As part of this program a wide range of events like technical paper presentations, technical quiz, debate, poster presentation, power point presentation, cultural events like dancing, singing and skits and various sporting events were conducted and students participated the events in an enthusiastic manner. The way the students demonstrated their talents and shared their ideas makes us come to the conclusion that the program has succeeded in achieving the intended results. At around 7pm the valedictory function started with the arrival of the technical education minister Government of Andhrapradesh, Mr. Mopineni Venkataramana. He was escorted by the Brahmin priests chanting Vedic hymns. The program started with the vedapravachanam by the priests. The valedictory ceremony started with a classical dance performance by one of the students which attracted the audience very much. The college officials and the dignitaries were invited on to the dais. At the very outset the honble secretary and correspondent Mr. Srinivas Koppuravuri took the initiative and acknowledged the presence of many other dignitaries and officials who could not be invited onto the dais for want of space and to avoid the overcrowding of the dais. The first to speak was Mr. G.Tirumala Rao who acknowledged the assistance given to the technical educational institutions by the state government in the form of fee reimbursement. The next person to address the gathering was secretary and correspondent who spoke about the way the events were organized and the students participated. Speaking on the occasion the technical education minister emphasized the need to encourage technical education and listed out the steps taken by government to promote technical education in the state of Andhrapradesh. He disclosed that the government spent around 1,650 crores in the last academic year and this year it may rise to around 3,600 crores. He further stated that in spite of the financial crisis faced by the state government, the government is committed to continue the scheme started by late Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Touching the issue of poor performance of the students he advised the students to introspect and work hard to transform themselves into valuable human resources. He was also critical of the attitude of some engineering colleges which do not have even basic facilities and reluctant to maintain minimum standards. He was of the opinion that if the government strictly enforces the AICTE norms, may be around fifty percent of the engineering
colleges would down their shutters. Though there are around 620 engineering colleges in the state many are not able to employ qualified teachers. In the backdrop of all these things he advised the managements of engineering colleges to improve their infrastructure. He showered praise on the officials of the LAQSHYA Group of Colleges for not being too commercial and for investing significant sums of money on infrastructure and maintaining the academic standards.

students are advised to gear themselves up for Campus placements so that you can directly leapfrog from their academic careers to professional careers. All are requested to utilize the services of the placement officer. If you have any queries with regard to placements email Mr. Lakshmi Deepak at: deepakmld@yahoo.com. August 30, 2010. JNTU Hyderabad released the results of the First year studensts. The whole Page | 12 LAQSHYA family was very happy as the studetns of LAQSHYA Institute of Technology and Sciences bagged 12th and 18th ranks. As far as Khammam district is concerned our students grabbed the first and second ranks. So LAQSHYA Group of Colleges congratulated the rankers and wished them all the best in their future endeavors. With this achievement we have indeed emerged as one of the leading professional educational institutions in the whole state. Now there is no doubt that LAQSHYA would become the most preferred college in Khammam district. We should all be proud to be associated with LAQSHYA Group of Colleges. All the credit goes to the students who toiled to achieve this, teachers who guided their students in the right path, the management which provided the students with all the facilities needed to do well in the exams and finally the parents who encouraged their wards constantly and continuously to excel in their studies. August 29th 2010 an updated version of the college website http://www.laqshya.edu.in/ had gone online. After the updation the website looks more informative and interesting.
A familiarization session by an official from CONNECT4M: August 25th 20010 a representative from connect4m.com visited the college and briefed the teachers on how to key in the marks and the attendance of the students into connect4m website. The demo began at 3.45pm and went on till 5.00pm. Teachers raised some queries and got answers. The person who made the presentation was patient enough to answer the questions. He Page | 13 impressed the teachers with his professionalism and eagerness to help his clients. The website connect4m if used effectively can facilitate the ceaseless interface among the stakeholders of the college. But some errors in the software and the slow response of the server are the causes of concern. On August 4th 2010, JNTU Hyderabad released the results of first year examinations. The university authorities sent the results to the respective colleges in the morning itself, but there was a delay in uploading the marks on to the web. Students at Laqshya turned very curious to know their results and rushed to the networked systems in the college in the expectation of finding the results online. But to their dismay they could not find them and started flocking together at the examination branch. By the evening many of the students could get to know about their marks. There was a lot of talk about the results in terms of marks, percentages and overall pass percentage in the college.

Canteen Facility:
According to Mr. Narasimha Rao who runs the canteen on behalf of the well known Page | 15 Bakery in Khammam town POLAS, food is cooked in the POLAS kitchen and is transported to the canteen. Only tea is made in the canteen. Sales, service and tending work are done in the canteen. POLAS owns 4 stalls all over Khammam town (including the college canteen). It is known for its quality food, especially fruit juices and ice creams. Though students are satisfied with the quality of food, many of them are not happy with the quantity being served. The quantity makes them feel that the food is expensive in the canteen. A host of food items like traditional snack Samosa and other bakery items like puffs, cakes, a variety of breads, chocolates and biscuits and a variety of namkeens are made available. A wide variety of breakfast items like Idli, Chapathi, Wada, Puri, Bonda are available. A one limit meal is served during lunch time. Fruit juices and Ice creams are made available during summer season.
Cultural Activities:
On 6th January 2011 under the auspices of STRIX (the student association formed by the students of CSE) organized a Rangoli competition. A total of 19 students participated and demonstrated their skills in putting Rangoli. Rangoli is very much part of our culture and especially on the eve of Sankranti festival the front yards of the houses look very colorful with Rangoli in fascinating designs. The initiative taken by the CSE students to conduct this competition is praiseworthy as the competition is part of the preservation of our cultural ethos. This competition was organized by Ms.Raga Ranjitha, Ms. Sravanthi and Ms. Swathi. Lakshmi Prasanna and Likitha won the first price and Nikitha and Swetha of III CSE bagged the second prize. It is not the University from which you graduated or the degree you possess which gets you all you want:
People often ask "from which college you graduated?" Why do they ask such a question? They want to judge the worth of your certificate and thereby judge how smart you are. But can't it be other way round? Instead of deriving our reputation from the college or university we graduated, how about growing into a matured intellectual and make original contribution to the existing knowledge and share that knowledge with others and bring reputation to the institution we studied in the capacity of alumni. So we should not derive our reputation from a college or university. We should bring reputation to the college or university in which we studied by sharing our thoughts and spreading knowledge. This pursuit of knowledge is from known to unknown and it is never ending; so one can never reach her/his destination.
MY MUSINGS
By V.Ramachandra Reddy In Mahabharatha the greatest epic in the history of humankind, we find an inspiring story. You might be well aware (if you have minimum knowledge about our great scriptures) Guru Dronacharya the teacher of Pandavas and Kauravas took his students into a nearby forest and he wanted to test the archery skills of his trainees. He called two of his meritorious students... Arjuna and Duryodhana and (they both are formidable rivals) and showed a bird that is resting on one of the boughs of a tree. First he questioned Duryodhana pointing his finger at the bird... what do you see? I see a tree and its many boughs, many leaves and on one of its branches a bird is resting. Then guru Drona posed the same question to Arjuna and he answered I see only the eye of the bird. Now you might have observed the difference in the thinking and attitudes of the two warriors. Obviously Arjuna could become a legendary warrior and played a key role in the battle field Kurukshetra. The Only warrior who could match him and resist him was the mighty Karna. As Duryodhana did not have the required concentration he could not become an archer. Of course Duryodhana was also a great warrior and he almost defeated his arch rival Bheema in his final battle with his mace. So what is the lesson we can learn from this story? Concentration or paying attention enables to look at your target in a crystal clear manner and it empowers you to achieve your goals. In the logo of LAQSHYA we see an archer and an archer must have great concentration and he must always have his eye on his target. So what is your target? Your target is to groom yourself as an employable person in the job market. Marks and percentages should not be your ultimate goals. When you are ambitious, you go beyond your text books and explore many sources to acquire knowledge. Then marks would automatically come to you. If you pursue just marks and ignore knowledge and skills you may make yourself unemployable, and as a consequence you would only become a liability to the society... not an asset which we all expect you to become.

BOOK REVIEW
These days I'm reading a good book titled "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind" by Joseph Murphy. The psychiatrists say that there are two minds. One is conscious Mind which we all are aware of. Whatever thoughts, ideas and perceptions we entertain in our minds occur in our conscious mind. But there is one more, which is more important than the conscious mind as its functioning shows profound impact on our personality. As a man/woman thinketh so is he/she. So whatever thoughts we entertain (optimistic or pessimistic; positive or negative; life or death; poverty or prosperity) that is what we would ultimately become. The power of Subconscious Mind authored by Joseph Murphy was first published by PrenticeHall, Inc. in 1963. From then onwards, millions of copies were sold and it acquired the status of one of the best self help books in the history of book publishing. This book emphasizes on mental healing and advises the readers to change their attitudes towards their lives. In this book Murphy quotes a Chinese proverb a picture is worth a thousand words. He prescribed the Mental Movie Method (MMM) a kind of creative visualization to turn our thoughts positive, healthy and optimistic. So the principle is act as though I am, and I will be. There are many practical tips given in this book and it has something to give to each and every reader. This is a book worth reading and absorbing. You can download this book in PDF format from www.scribd.com use the link given below. http://www.scribd.com/doc/439863/The-Power-of-Your-Subconscious-Mind-Joseph-Murphy In case you want to listen to the text you may log on to http://www.debtgotoguy.com/inspiration/the-power-of-your-subconscious-mind/ and download the audio.

were thrown before it. I just thought what would be the situation if a human finds him/herself in the same condition. The person who is alive would be heartbroken and die even before s/he is slaughtered. Of course humans are higher mortals and the goats are lesser mortals. May be that is why we disembowel them and eat them up. But why is it that the goat does not show any emotions? Does it have the cognitive capabilities to understand what kind of fate is awaiting it? Page | 20 We dont know much about our own brains, how can we get to know about a goats brain? Even a goats mind is very enigmatic. When there is some problem with our brain we undergo diagnostic tests like fMRI and the neuroanatomists even take the opportunity to carry out some research on our brains. But has anybody conducted a diagnostic test on a goats brain? First of all is it worth conducting a diagnostic test on the health condition of a goat? Ever since it is born, a goat is destined to the edge of a butchers knife. We, humans have the privilege of dying a natural death. I wonder how many goats on this earth have the same privilege. People say that a goat trusts only a butcher. I dont know to what extent it was right. I thought that in this case, may be the popular perception is right. I had never been to a slaughter house and saw whether a goat resists when it is taken to a butcher who is cutting the throats of goats one after the other. But people say that it certain resists in its final moments. Does that mean it realizes the fact that it is indeed its last walk, only in the final moments? Does that mean though it has the cognitive abilities, it just reconciles with its fate and remains peaceful and prepares itself mentally to meet its end? Or does it have the instinct of living only in the present, in other words neither in the unpleasant past nor in the uncertain future unlike humans? If that is the case the goat is certainly wiser than humans. As I was entertaining these thoughts the student who missed the bus reached the stop and boarded the bus. The bus resumed its journey. As I had a last look at the goat before it vanished from my sight I just thought that though humans are growing knowledgeable they are still neck deep in ignorance and the animals whom we use as food just because they are weak and meek are certainly wiser than us though they are not as knowledgeable as we are.

RECREATION:
The students of EEE specialization undertook a trip to northern India to witness some historic places. Thirty one students were part of this trip. These 31 students were accompanied by two teachers Mr. Pavan Kumar and Ms. Shakira Sultana. They visited many places of historical significance such as Taj Mahal, Hawa Mahal, Golden Temple, Jalianwalabagh, Wagah boder, Red Fort, Parliament building, Gate Way of India, Fatehpur Sikri, Jantarmantar etc. The tour went on for eight days. From Khammam to Agra they travelled by Grand Trunk Express. From there onwards they hired a tourist bus with chefs. The students were served mostly south Indian dishes throughout the tour. In Rajasthan they saw attractive handicrafts. In fact Rajasthan especially Jaipur, is known for handicrafts. They use various kinds of materials like pieces of marble stone and different alloys to fabricate these handicrafts. The Hawa Mahal is an impressive and imposing structure standing as a testimony of the glorious period of Rajputs. Jalianwala Bagh reminded them the barbarity of Gen. Dyer who ordered the gunning down of the nationalists who assembled there. Mr.Pavan Kumar who visited these places along with the students, said that Amritsar where Godden temple is located is a very pleasant and beautiful place. The atmosphere was highly pious and the city was busy with the visiting pilgrims. They also had the golden opportunity to witness the retreat ceremony this is normally held at 4.30pm everyday at wagah border. They found the ceremony very fascinating. The shouting crowds on both sides encouraging their soldiers and the precise performance of the BSF Jawans during the ceremony left vivid memories in the minds of the students. All in all it was a pleasant and enriching experience for the students.
In Agra Taj Mahal looked splendid. When Bill Clinton visited India, he preferred to categorize people on the earth as the people who saw Taj Mahal and the people who did not see Taj Mahal. You can imagine the Page | 22 architectural wonder of Taj Mahal. They say Taj Mahal is a symbol of love, but on the other side of the coin it is a story of hatred. Muntaz is not the only wife of Shajahan, she is only one of the many women kept in captivity in his harem. Muntaz is said to his favorite wife. Purity of love is in sticking to one partner and taking care of his/her. Shajahan, after the construction work of Taj Mahal was over, he got the hands of sculptors and other highly skilled artisans who played key role in the construction of the structure chopped off so that they would not be able to construct another structure similar to Taj Mahal. Historians conveniently avoid mentioning this truth. A person who cant love his fellow humans cant be branded as a person representing love.
the students in a classroom can access internet and other web based learning aids on their laptops. Just imagine a teacher teaching Geography lessons and students can access Google earth and see for themselves the various locations on the earth. It sounds amazing. Children can take them to their homes. These tiny machines are powered by batteries which last for many hours once they are charged. Many third world countries have procured millions of these tiny machines for their tiny tots and distributed to them. As far as India is concerned it is as usual. The project is moving at a snails pace and government appears to be uninterested in the project.
