Nu Flow Retrofits Sarasota County Sewer Pipes

Nu Flow, the worlds leading inside-infrastructure corporation, worked with Sarasota County to rehabilitate 95 percent of the countys sewer laterals with Nu Flows trenchless solution to retrofit broken, cracked and leaking pipes. The pipe lining project delivered huge savings by preventing rainwater infiltration and the resulting excess water removal and treatment requirements. By choosing Nu Flow, the county avoided the cost and disruption of digging and replacing those pipes. Customer: Sarasota County, located on the south western coast of Florida with a population of over 372,000. Site: Venice Gardens, Sarasota County, Florida in an old 70s residential subdivision. System: Lateral sanitary drain lines consisting of 6 diameter clay pipes ranging from 15 to 25 feet in length. The lateral lines connect each homeowners property to the main sewer pipe 3 to 8 feet below ground level where each line ties into the city main. This project included approximately 116 lateral connections. Situation: During the rainy season, Sarasota County Utility hauled 1.4 million gallons of excess wastewater by the truckload from a lift station to their Water Reclamation Facility in Venice, Florida in an attempt to prevent overflows at the lift station as rainwater was infiltrating through the broken and cracked pipe joints. The required work was costing the County in overtime and hauling expenses while the rainwater infiltration was putting an unnecessary load on the wastewater treatment facility. In addition to these costs, the constant running of sanitary pump trucks caused damage to roads and the noise from the trucks was disturbing area residents. Solution: Nu Flow retrofitted the lateral lines from the city main back towards the individual homeowners property lines with their structural drain liner. Where the lateral meets the mainline, Nu Flow used their lateral connection liner (LCL) to completely rehab the weakest point in the sewer where root intrusion, infiltration and exfiltration are common. Once complete, the lift station was self-sufficient because rain water no longer found its way into the sewer system.

The early results of the lining that has been completed in the Hill View basin shows a great reduction of infiltration and inflow in the sanitary sewer system in this area.
