Virtual Management Experience

The goal of this learning program is to practice management skills. They are comprised of important soft skills and a holistic understanding of up-to-date management concepts. The TOPSIM General Management Simulation will serve as a stage to gain business acumen, strategic decision making ability and leadership experiences. The participants will make up the management board of an enterprise having to go through dramatic changes in a highly competitive environment. The simulation will put the learners into very realistic situations to be faced by top-management yet within a much shorter time period. This method can be compared to a flight-simulator in the education of a pilot. Participants will have to demonstrate their ability to apply concepts to challenges posed upon them by the simulation. The best way for students to acquire business acumen, strategic decision making ability, analyzing financial reports/data and leadership skills is to go through a simulated real-life situation wherein students are required apply their knowledge and their know-how in a simulated environment. Tasks and responsibilities are to be shared by the team members to come up with the right decisions on time in an uncertain environment. Motivation, delegation and conflict management are among the vital skills to be trained by this form of action learning. The potentials of self- and team-management concepts will be experienced. After every quarter the simulation will be stopped. Team processes and the quality of the decisions will be analysed. The TOPSIM - General Management workshop is conducted by an instructor who is responsible for introducing the case study, generating results and debriefing participants. This enables participants to retain knowledge through an engaging and fun process. Two days will be enough time to simulate 4 to 6 periods/years of business. Intensive team feedbacks will give everyone valuable insights into the perception of their leadership by others. Frequent presentations and negotiations will further train communication skills. This is a very dynamic, decision-focussed approach on teaching vital personnel and professional skills for business leaders. It is very demanding for the learner. Yet it is well suited to acquire the different kinds of knowledge: know-what, know-how, know-why and care-why.
