I am petitioning to find out the reason why our alliance name was changed from D ouble Dutch Rudders

to Alliance 12345. To my knoledge, making reference to nautical terms of a cultural nature was not against any rules or policies. I find the decision to change our alliance name to be offensive in itself. As a man of proud Dutch descent from a seafaring fishing family, I must question the reasoning behind such a name change and whether or not it was made with racist o r discriminatory intentions. I would like to have my alliance name restored as soon as possible. --Thank you.Can you please provide us with a source or documentation where this na utical term is referenced?

Regards GM Homonoia EVE Online Customer Support Team CCP Games --The term Double Dutch Rudders itself is a combination of a few terms, but isn't a common term in itself. It will take a bit of explination: During the 1400s-1600s, Dutch ships were some of the finest afloat and there are many famous Dutch explorers that could be referenced from that time. Moreover, Dutch ships and their crews were often so fine that non-Dutch Pilots would be co mmissioned to lead them in exploring new waters. Rudders are the mechanism that steers a boat. Many boats have two rudders these days, sometimes even more. Usually a ship will have one rudder for every screw. The founders of our alliance agreed that our goals were like those of the Dutch: exploration and excellence without bravado. We named our alliance such to refle ct the need stay on course, as a rudder does for a ship. Double to reflect the m odern age we live in (2 rudders on most ships now instead of 1), and Dutch to re flect our ideal. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudder --Hi,

Try googling "double dutch rudder", then you will see why we want it changed. Th is is a slang for a sex act, which quite clearly breaks our EULA, i.e.:

Names may not be:

"obscene, vulgar, sexually explicit, offensive, hurtful, harmful, promote drugs, profane, anti-gay, and ethnically, racially or sexually offensive or impart any real-world hostility toward a specific nationality, race or religion. "

This name is obscene and sexually explicit. The reason we want it changed has no thing to do with dutch. You can use the word dutch in your alliance name if you wish, but not a sexually explicit slang.

You can come up with something similar, or something else that is witty, just as long as it doesn't clearly break the EULA. Please let me know what you choose a nd I will change it a.s.a.p.

Dutch Pilots were famous for writin g good rutters. After discussing it a bit more with the other founders, we created the alliance with a specific vision in mind and don't feel very comfortable deviating from it too much, and a name is very important for that. I would have to discuss with t hem further about any other possibile name changes. Thank you. --Double Dutch Rutter is also a slang used for a similar purpose. Would you be sat isfied with Double Dutch Rubber? Double Dutch Ratter? Double Dutch Anything as l ong as it isn't directly one of those sexually explicit slangs.

Hmm, I didn't look that up before I suggested it. After discussing it with the other founders, we have decided to go with "Double Dietsch Rudders" using the same tag of DDR. Dietsch is an old form of Dutch, and it would still represent our ideals without compromising much, and a google search of "Dietsch" and "Dietch Rudders" turned up nothing obscene. Thanks. --Hi there,

I have changed your alliance name to Double Dietsch Rudders now. Note that it mi ght take until after the next downtime before this is reflected correctly in-gam e.
