Apples newly-appointed CEO, Tim Cook has been awarded a million shares by the firm over the next decade, effectively keeping him on board through at least 2021. Apple stock rose $9.86 to $383.58 per share after the news broke. Cook was seduced away from IBM by Jobs, who promptly made him their Chief Operations Officer. His presence was immediately felt, as he fine-tuned and streamlined the companys once infamously undisciplined supply chain and inventory control system. Today, Apple leads the computing industry in both manufacturing efficiency and ensuring a steady supply of vital parts and components. The company buys about 60 per cent of the worlds supply of SDRAM chips, and has several factories working round the clock to meet the seemingly insatiable demand by consumers for their hot-selling iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch and MacBook Air products. Cook is regarded as a genius in the industry. After initially falling 5 per cent when Jobs announced his resignation, shares of the company quickly rebounded after Apple announced that Cook would be his replacement. Already, the company has three firms manufacturing the super high resolution retina-like displays for its next iPad model, dubbed iPad 3, which is due for release early next year, purportedly powered by a new quad-core chip Apple makes called the A6. Next month, they are expected to release both a new iPhone, called the iPhone 5, and a newer less expensive version of their bestselling iPhone 4. The new iPhone 4 is rumoured to be much cheaper than the present model, and is being targeted specifically

for the Asian markets of India and China. All three of Chinas major phones carriers have agreed to now support the iPhone. Apple-owned brand name stores in China alone, service more than one million customers per day, which is unprecedented for a computing chain. The lower priced iPhone 4 will still deliver all of the expected functionality, but is designed to compete against lower priced Nokia and Google Android-based offerings. In the United States, Apples two year old iPhone 3GS is still the countrys second bestselling smartphone. Apple has now become the worlds largest mobile computing company, having passed Nokia, Samsung, Sony, RIMs Blackberry, Acer, Motorola and even Hewlett-Packard. Cooks stock award of one million non-voting shares will be vested over ten years. Now that he is signed through at least 2021, doubts about Apples long-term stability appear to be over. 1.0v1 Aug 28, 2011 Kal K.
