Current SmarTeam Express Status

SmarTeam Express, which was released on February 5, 2008, delivers a modular Out-Of-The-Box environment for Multi-CAD design collaboration, engineering collaboration and project management. SmarTeam Express for V5 R18 provides one continuous installation (V5R18, SP2, HF1 and Express). SmarTeam Express represents a maturity level that is higher than V5R18 SP2, including fixes from V5R18 SP3/4 as well as R19 code level (with an emphasis on the new DMD capabilities, which support Express Out-Of-The-Box behavior). Therefore, the standard V5R18 SPs (SP3/SP4) cannot be installed on top of Express. SmarTeam Express does not currently support:
SmarTeam Design Express (SDE) for Pro/ENGINEER SmarTeam Web Editor (WED) SmarTeam Multi-site (MUS)

SmarTeam Express is not currently certified with:

SmarTeam Regulatory Compliance Framework (RCF)

Activities for 2008/9

1. Enable SNE for existing SmarTeam customers (non-Express V5R16 and V5R17)
Customers will be able to implement SNE capabilities in addition to the current implementation.

2. Web Editor and Navigator Support

Customers will be able to work with Express Database on SmarTeam Web Editor.

3. Upgrade R18 SmarTeam Express customers to next releases

Customers who implemented Design/Engineering Express will be able to upgrade to new releases of Express.

4. Express as part of SmarTeam

All express capabilities will be embedded in SmarTeam core products in R19.

5. Multi-site Support
Express environment will support customers working in a Multi-site environment.

6. Enable Express for existing SmarTeam SDE customers (Express V5R16 and V5R17)
Customers will be able to implement SNE and SDE capabilities in addition to the current implementation.

7. Bug Fixing
Bugs will be incorporated in Hotfixes delivered in addition to Service Packs.

8. Pro/ENGINEER Support
Pro/ENGINEER will be certified as an Express solution.

Activity 1 Enable SNE for Existing SmarTeam Customers

V5R16 and V5R17 customers who did not implement an Engineering solution can Add SNE (*) capabilities:
These capabilities will be added as a new behavior (DLB) to their system This behavior will add the functionality of Item/BOM and Workflow Management This behavior is added to the DMD tool and requires a BOM license The customer should first upgrade to a higher version of SmarTeam (V5R18, V5R19) This implementation may require an involvement of the VAR and can be obtained as an implementation service delivered to the customer

Note: Add SNE will be available only if the customer did not work with Item Behavior.

Activity 2 Web Editor and Navigator Support

The Express solution is currently NOT Web-enabled. Web support means enabling users to navigate design/engineering data, as well as participate in Workflow processes, using the Web. All special activities that are hooked to SmarTeam commands will run in the Web environment, such as Create Project (folder creation while adding a new project). The user will not have special tools, which involve a GUI, that were developed for Express, such as Upload Documents.

Activity 6 Enable Express for Existing SmarTeam SDE Customers

V5R16 and V5R17 customers can upgrade and move their implementation to a higher version starting from approximately V5R19 SP4/5. These customers can enhance their implementation by adding:
SNE capabilities, which include Item/BOM and Workflow management SDE capabilities for CADs that were not previously in use for the specific database
