Lemus
(562) 789-7220 CLemus@ewcsd.org www.MisterLemus.com "Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas. ~Albert Einstein Welcome to the 2011-2012 school year. I will lead a respectful and disciplined classroom. To achieve this I have established a few simple policies and students are responsible to comply with these policies. If you decide not to comply, there will be logical consequences. By enforcing these policies, I promise to you fairness and order in our classroom. A. Classroom Expectations and Rules

Respect for Self I will always do my best. I will positively participate in all classroom activities. I will complete all assignments on time.

Respect for Others I will stay on task without disturbing /distracting others. I will not use put downs or harass others. I will respect other peoples differences and opinions.

Respect for School I will raise my hand to speak. I will enter and exit the room quietly. I will actively listen when the teacher is speaking.

If you choose to break a rule, punishments will always fit the crime. Of course, there are behaviors that will warrant a Principals referral immediately. Examples of this include gross insubordination or violent behavior. Behaviors that are less severe, but in violation of the basic expectations and rules of the class will be dealt with in the manner described below. This format is in no way all inclusive and is subject to change: 1 Incident: Verbal warning. Student is asked to discontinue the inappropriate behavior/action. nd 2 Incident: Student receives a 1 hour after school detention. rd 3 Incident: Student receives an office referral. C. Detentions Detentions will be served after school based on teacher availability. One day notice will always be given to parents. D. Tardies and Late Arrivals A student who is not in their seat when the bell sound ends, is considered either tardy or late. A student is tardy if they arrive without a pass after the bell. A student is late if he arrives with a pass after the bell. Tardy and late students need to sign the tardy/late log folder next to the door and are not to disrupt the class. Late students need to place their pass inside the tardy/late folder, also. There is no penalty for arriving late with a pass. A student is tardy if he is not in their seat when the bell stops ringing and does not have a pass. The tardy penalties per semester are explained below: First Tardy: Student receives a warning. Second Tardy: Student receives a warning. Third Tardy: Student receives 1/2 hour after school detention. Fourth Tardy: Student receives 1/2 hour after school detention. Fifth Tardy: Student receives 1 hour after school detention. Additional Tardies: Student receives 1 hour after school detention. Excessive tardies will result in an office referral.

E. Academic Honesty It is expected that students will use genuine, sincere, and fair means for the accomplishment of the tests, tasks, or projects from which evaluations of progress shall be determined. Students found copying or cheating in any way will receive automatic zeros and have phone calls made to their parents. In addition, a write-up of the incident will be given to the Principal. Maximum penalty for cheating is suspension from school.

F. Attendance If a student has an excused absence from class, the student is responsible for the homework assignment, handouts and notes that are missed. Students must exchange phone numbers with at least two fellow students to inquire about a missed class session. Homework assignments are available for download on my website. The student has as many days as he or she was absent to make up the assignments. It is up to the student to inquire about missed work and tests. Zeros will be given if a student fails to make up work within an acceptable time frame. Unexcused absences void all make-up privileges. G. Homework and Late Work Homework is integral in the study of mathematics. Homework will be assigned daily and may not be turned in late because it is graded and reviewed daily. Assignments not completed due to lack of understanding require a parent signature and comment reflecting the students attempt. When a note is submitted, students must make arrangements to get help from the teacher. H. Tests and Quizzes If a student has an excused absence for a test day, they may make up the test or quiz in the morning or afternoon of the next available day. It is the responsibility of the student to make arrange a make-up session with the teacher. A missed make-up appointment without notice will result in a zero. I. Grading System The East Whittier City School District has implemented a two-grade system for all middle schools. As a result, an Academic and Scholarship grade will be assigned. The grading for each semester will be based on the following: Academic Assessments 80% Quizes 20% J. Grading Scale 99.0%-100%= A+ 92.0%-98.9%= A 90.0%-91.9%= AScholarship Assignments 80% Participation/Work Habits 20%
