Osborn Wins Endorsement from Powerful Labor Union in Race to Fill Vacant New 50th Assembly Seat SANTA MONICA, CA- Bolstering her bid to fill Californias new vacant 50th Assembly seat, veteran non-profit executive Torie Osborn today secured the backing of one of Californias most powerful unions, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 18. We take our endorsements very seriously, especially in these tough economic times, said Brian DArcy, Business Manager of IBEW Local 18. When we back a candidate, it's because we know they have their priorities straight and theyll fight to create more good paying jobs. Torie Osborn has the leadership skills, the vision and passion to help get Californias economy back on track, and we want to help her win. It is a real honor to have the support of IBEW Local 18, said Osborn. With the nations second highest unemployment rate, currently at 12%, Californians are struggling to make ends meet. When I go to Sacramento, my top priority will be good paying jobs speeding up our economic recovery. IBEW Local 18 represents over 8,000 employees working for five public sector employers. Most (of) Local 18 members are utility workers, electrical workers, clerical workers, engineers, custodians, and tree trimmers. Local 18 represents workers from Boulder City, Nevada to Long Beach to the Oregon border.

Osborn has been leading the race in campaign fundraising and endorsements. Shes earned endorsements from Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Congresswoman Karen Bass, Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl, Assemblywoman Julia Brownley who currently holds the seat, as well as former State Senator Sheila James Kuehl. Last week Osborn scored endorsements from Agoura Hills Mayor Harry Schwarz, Agoura Hills Mayor Pro-Tem Dan Kuperberg, and former Agoura Hills Mayor Ed Corridori. In the most recent fundraising report, Osborn netted a whopping $215,000 in just the first six months of this year, for a total of $294,400 since announcing her candidacy, late last year. She has nearly 1,000 individual donors and a long list of prominent endorsements, showing an unusually committed level of support and momentum, especially for a first- time candidate. ### Osborn is acclaimed for her pioneering leadership as an executive at several nonprofit organizations, including the Liberty Hill Foundation and the Los Angeles Gay & Lesbian Center both of which are located in the new 50th Assembly District as well as United Way of Greater LA. Osborn also served as a senior policy advisor on homelessness, poverty and economic development to Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. She is currently a senior strategist for California Calls, a network of 25 organizations throughout the state committed to commonsense governmental reform.
