Steps for Migrating 3.x Dataflow into 7.x Data Flow

Introduction
In SAP NetWeaver 2004s or SAP BW 7.x , new concepts and technologies are available in the Data Warehousing Workbench for process design and modeling the data flow. The existing concepts and technologies (3.x DataSource, 3.x transfer and update rules, 3.x InfoSource) are still supported. Objects belonging to these concepts and technologies are now referred to as 3.x objects. The data flow concept of SAP BW 3.5 has been completely revised in SAP BW 7.x .Thus, InfoSource have become optional objects; update and transfer rules have been combined into transformations; and the data transfer process has been redeveloped to provide an improved error-handling Functionality. If you want to benefit from the features of the new concepts while working with an existing data model, Migration of data model has recommended.

Difference between 3.x data flow and 7.x Data Flow

There is enhanced Process design and modeling capabalities in 7.x data model design. 3.x Data model Consider following diagram

Data will get loaded by transfer rules and update rules. By info Package data can directly load in data target. Update rules connect an InfoSource to a data target ( InfoCube , ODS object, or master data

table), allowing it to specify additional transformations from a business point of view. Transfer rules are a set of transformations defining the mapping of fields available in a specific DataSource to the fields used in the InfoSource definition.

7.x Data model Consider following diagram

Data source activation directly generates PSA. Info Package is used to load data only till PSA. Transformation Replaces Transfer rules and update Rules. Info Source in optional, Only needed for complex (Multi Steps ) Procedures. DTP replace Info Package , data marts interface and Info Spoke. ODS renamed as DSO, Introduce Write Optimized DSO. Info Set also supports Info Cubes.

Steps Of Migration
There are some steps of migration which needs to follow for migration of data flow. We needs to migrate transfer rules first before migrating data source. Many people make this mistake while migration. If you migrate data source first, then you will lose transfer rules. Following Steps to be considered 1) Right Click on Transfer rules and say Create Transformation.
