Question 1: Where does the information that appears above the list of MOVEMENTS come from?

In the Ducky Sapphire example (attached below) it has the following: Currently trading in South East Asia Reported 2011-04-11 sailed from Singapore Eastern Anchorage, Singapore bound for Kaohsiung Where does this statement come from? Is it manually inputted or based on AIS positioning? Answer 1: This statement is derived from our last known position from the vessel taken from either the terrestrial network, Satellite or inspections data. Question 2: Please confirm the fields of information that rely on manual input by crew into the transponder and those that come directly from AIS. You mentioned that ETA is manually inputted while the "Last seen at" comes from AIS. Please give complete details of which fields come from which sources. Answer 2: The (IMO) and (SOLAS) requires AIS to be fitted aboard international voyaging ships with gross tonnage (GT) of 300 or more tons, and all passenger ships regardless of size. We pick up the live messages from the vessel transponders and display this information on AIS and Sea- web. This information is collated by our global terrestrial network of antennas, or by satellite data. The fields of data received from both sources is the same. The crew on board the vessel can manually amend the static data derived from AIS, which includes vessel name, IMO, MMSI, ETA and destination fields. So if they have failed to update their destination, we can only present the data provided directly from the on board transponder.

Question 3: Please confirm at what point the information in the AIS Position field goes into the Movements field. As I understand from our phone conversation the information in the Movements is all generated by AIS. Is this correct? In order for information to go into the MOVEMENTS field the vessel must have gone into a port or been in transit through certain areas. Please confirm which transit areas (in addition of ports) are included in the MOVEMENTS. movements , transit section Answer 3: The AIS Iframe map will show the latest movement from our AIS terrestrial network however if we have a newer port calling position derived from our Satellite data then we will show the vessel in the port. The list of Port Callings data will include our terrestrial, satellite and inspections data. We have zones to determine a port calling, and once the vessel has sailed into the zone it will be registered as a port calling. The full lists of our port zones can be found in the movements section however please see below the list of transit zones.

Question 4: On occasion (though not in the Ducky Sapphire example) there can be a lengthy time difference between "Last seen at" in the AIS Position field and the most recent entry in the MOVEMENTS. Is this because the vessel has not gone into port or a transit area? Answer 4 Without a current example of a discrepancy in the data its hard to explain reasons why this situation has occurred as there could be a vast number of logical reasons. We are however confident that these differences are minimal and for the most part, can easily be explained. We are committed to providing the highest quality data and service to you, so if you notice discrepancies please do not hesitate to contact the support team primarily (fairplay_support@ihs.com) or myself and we will be more than happy to investigate the matter further and provide a quick explanation that you can relay to your clients. Question 5 SHIP OVERVIEW "Last updated" - has this field been removed from the SHIP OVERVIEW? If so, why? Answer 5 This is correct. This field of data could be misleading as the date would be automatically updated on our database even if one of our analysts just browsed a record without updating or changing data. This could cause confusion and so the decision was made to remove. However the data department are still working on a solution on how we can include this data in future updates. Question 6

I have had a look at the Inspections and Detentions for East Ambition (IMO 9187954). It appears that the only detentions recorded are related to inspections. Does Seaweb provide any information regarding the detention for ships for purposes of arrest? Answer 6 The detention data only includes port state control inspections. Question 7 My final question that you answered on the phone but I would also like confirmed in this email is - Does Seaweb use agents to provide any vessels details? Answer 7 We use agents, reporters and a wide variety of resources to keep our ships and companies data base's up to date. We have a large data department of over 50 colleagues dedicated to the collating, maintaining the high quality, accurate data provided in all our databases. I
