New Member Spotlight

President Amy Jernigan called Meeting to order: Flag Salute by Rotarian Jerry Smith and Invocation by Rotarian Dee Fairbanks Table Introductions: Rotarian Chuck Reynolds introduced Tyler Edwards Const. & Bruce Spangler, Holiday Inn, Rotarian Mike Hutton introduced Mike Crump, County PW Director and member of Durham Club PP, & Pending new Member Penny Chennel Carter OCESD, 5$ Mike Hutton received a recognition fee of $5, Rotarian Laurie Rogers talked about a wonderful group of Rotarians. Rotarian Regina Munster introduced 2 guest Bill Sharman of Golden Valley Pub. and Tina Pruitt of Daryls Painting Inductions: Membership Chairman Bryan Klingler introduced Tyler Edwards, Bruce Spangler, Penny Chanel Carter for Induction today. Bryan presented each with a New Member packet of Rotary Procedure. Bruce Spangler talked about being from Oroville as hometown boy, Tyler Edwards shared his great interest with the Club and Oroville and Penny Channel Carter talked about her arrival to Butte County and her many positive experiences with Oroville City Schools and past member of Durham Rotary. Recognition: Rotarian Sam Chimento, proudly talked about his new little grand-baby was planned for Oct. 4 but prematurely arrived last Mon. girl 7 weeks 4 6oz 16 inches. Sam prowled accepted the $50 recognition. Recognition: Rotarian Charles Hurley received a $20 for the new Oroville Fire Department bike story 2 Mt. bikes for community events to be staffed with Fire Personnel With help of Pioneer Auto body, Hope center, Walmart the bikes are Fire Engine Lime Green bikes that stand out significantly. Rotarian Rocky Nolans Pioneer Body shop provided the painting an details for the bikes. At President Amy nodding she offered full recognition Rocky to ring the Bell at $135. Announcement: President Amy Board Meeting Change to Thursday September 15, 2011. Remember EOBO is the challenge for all members to accomplish this year. Pledge forms to be turned in to Shelton ASAP. Program: Program Chair Pat Sands introduced our presenter Skip Lawrence and provided some details on Skip. He was born and raised in Kentucky. His folks immigrated, legally, to California in 1953. He attended Stanford University for his Undergraduate Degree and then University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) for his D.D.S. He has been a Rotarian since 1988. He was President of the Rotary Club of Sacramento 2004-2005 and AG from 2006-2009. At the present time he is DG Jack Taylors Service Projects Chair and am serving as the Vice President on the Board of Directors for BloodSource, our region blood bank. Rotarian Lawrence, was proud to talk on the Rotary Blood Donor Day and how Rotary is going to Make a Difference DG Jack Taylor is interested in clinical safe and adequate blood supply and seeing that District 5180 clubs an members share this concern with actions. Beginning Oct 22 Make a Difference week Blood Donor Day. Rotary Action Group (RAGS). Donor Cards were passed out that help with your blood donation event. If you forget the card identify yourself as Rotary Noon Best Club by Dam site member for recognition. Why Blood Source, well many rotarians for many years have been consistent donors and DG Jack Taylor is asking all past donators and new members to donate for the clinical health of your community. Donor sites were displayed on Powerpoint with Pat Sands gives Blood-source as a partner in this effort. Blood Source has 3.5 million donors listed in 25 counties, 500+employees Skip Lawrence a 90 million budget. Blood-source building in Chico is state of the art including a Histocompatability Laboratory great intro! and rare red blood laboratory. Mobile units are also offered with community drive. Chico office will be providing a schedule and it will be provided in following newsletters. Some discussion on the Donor requirements and the other opportunity to offer plasma. Safe Blood Africa(SBA)--cooperation Rotary Club project primary mission is for refrigerators and backup generators to store blood were findings resulted from the GSE Team/Nigeria 2002. That team discovered the unsafe blood storage and other conditions that need improvement. Only 2% are volunteer donors, cross matching not generally done, 250,000 die from Malaria in Nigeria, Needless deaths that can be prevented with existing technology. Rotary investment Nigerian Clubs, us clubs District Match and RI match $23,000 per installation. As of 2010 20 SBA store facilities located in hospitals in Nigeria. Potential live saving -hundreds of lives per year per installation. Sustainability is the big effort to ensure the refrigerators are in use and stay on purpose. Skip provided many stories on the vital and essential part of the good aspects the Safe Blood Africa is making a difference with. Printed information was offered on this subject and Skip offered to seek answers to any questions the membership had from the presentation or please contact him for any other information you may need for this project. Skip presented a movie on the many personal stories of success of Blood Donation and how essential an critical for live saving blood supply is on the personal District 5180 area. There was not one dry eye among the membership from the local personal stories.
