Gorge Waterway Cleanup Saturday September 17th
Join other community members, local organizations, businesses, and dive teams as we retrieve tonnes of debris from our local Gorge Waterway and Selkirk Waterfront areas. Join this valuable community initiative and help keep our local waterway clean and prestine. Participants attending a Drop-In program do not have to register and the programs are welcome to all who fit the program description.

Registered Programs:

Registered programs require that participants register for the program in advance of the program start date.

The Magic of Christmas Gift Fair Saturday November 19th 9:00am-3:00pm


The Magic of Christmas Gift Fair is a new seasonal event and fundraiser hosted by the Burnside Gorge Community Association. This event allows you to showcase your talents while creating a Spirit of Giving as a portion of the proceeds from the vendor applications and the admissions support the Burnside Gorge Active Families fund, a funding source dedicated to helping less fortunate families participate in recreation, health and leisure activities at our centre. Jump start your craft fair season and apply to participate in the 2011 Magic of Christmas Gift Fair. The event will feature festive entertainment, host an on-site caf with delectable foods and, of course, showcase your unique gift ideas. Space is limited to 50 vendors and we would love for you to attend!

Sportball Junior (16-24 mths)
This program is a perfect introduction to Sportball. Children and parents participate in sports, creative games, songs, rhymes, stories, bubble time and more! These programs focus on exploration and children are introduced to a different sport each week. Sportball Parent and Tot (2-3 yrs)

Toddlers and parents/grandparents are guided through the award-winning Sportball curriculumm, which provides the basic concepts and skills for seven popular sports: baseball, basketball, golf, hockey, soccer, tennis, and volleyball. The Multi-Sport program focus is on skill development in 8 popular sports: football, soccer, hockey, baseball, basketball, tennis, volleyball and golf. Dinner Drop-in (7-17 yrs)

Come to our dinner drop-in with your family. The evening begins with a dinner prepared by Burnside Gorge staff and community volunteers. After dinner hang out in our Youth Centre and play pool, Wii, foosball, air hockey or watch a movie in our mini-movie theatre. Parents must accompany youth 14 yrs and under for the dinner. Are you feeling unsteady on your feet or are you recovering from a surgery or injury? Walking with specially designed Urban Poles helps to provide increased confidence, balance, and stability and reduces stress in hips and knees. Join Carey Adam, physiotherapist and certified urban Poling instructor, for a hands-on introductory lesson. Kindergym/Parent and Tot Time (2-4 yrs)

Join us for an hour and a half of active play in the Burnside Campus Gymnasium. There are rideon toys, climbers, slides, balls, hoops and various sports equipment. The program includes 30 min of free play, 20 min of organized games (based on the LEAP/HOP curriculum) and 10 min of circle time. This program is best suited for ages 2-4 yrs yet all children under 5 yrs are welcome. Parent participation is required. Sara Wegwitz is a Registered Nurse with a degree in Nursing (BScN) and a specialty in Critical Care Nursing (CCRN). Promoting health on a wide variety of topics is a passion of Saras. She is passionate about empowering people of all ages to get back in the Drivers Seat of their own health and wellness. She has seen people deal with health issues and truly understands that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Deborah once studied ice skating, ballet, jazz, ballroom dance and reike before turning her attention to NIA in 2009. She is a White Belt Nia Instructor who believes that Nia is a natural extension of feng shui as our bodies are the only true home we reside in. She believes in taking care of the body at all levels; physically, emotionally, intellectually, spiritually and, most of all, joyfully. According to Deborah, There is that point in Nia class where it all comes together and you experience that feeling of really being One.

Who We Are
The Burnside Gorge Community Association (BGCA) provides innovative recreational, social and educational services to residents in our local neighbourhood and across Greater Victoria. We are a non-profit organization, governed by a board of directors, and employ upwards of 40 staff. The BGCA was established in 1991 and celebrates 20 years of growth. We currently operate in two primary locations: Burnside Gorge Community Centre at 471 Cecelia Road and Burnside Campus at 3130 Jutland Road. We are proud to be working in partnership with the City of Victoria and School District 61. We receive funding and support from local businesses and citizens, community organizations, provincial and federal governments and a variety of charities. Hundreds of volunteers assist us in our endeavors each year, as we build on our past and strengthen our ability to serve our ever-evolving community. Location
The Burnside Gorge Community Centre is located at 471 Cecelia Road (at the bend where Cecelia curves to Napier). Our facility is an award winning Gold LEED facility with one of the largest, publicly accessible green roofs in Western Canada. We also operate the Burnside Campus facility located at 3130 Jutland Road at the corner of Cecelia Road and Jutland Road. Here we have a number of programs, workshops and community groups who also offer various programs and and services. We encourage visitors to use green transportation to travel to our facilities. We are located along several major bus routes and just off the Galloping Goose trail. We provide on-site bicycle storage and participate in carpool managment programs.
