Cross Cultural Coordinator (CC)

Position Summary: The Cross Cultural Coordinator (CC) is responsible for the design, planning, promotion, and implementation of the cross cultural/diversity program that is an integral component of Pre-Service Training (PST). The Cross Cultural Coordinator is responsible for the design and implementation of the Cross Cultural component of PST, in collaboration with the Language and Cross Cultural Coordinator (LCC). S/he will draw on local people and resources to direct the trainees cultural adaptation during PST through formal sessions, assignments in the training village, and special events. This is a contracted position and requires living and working fulltime at the central PST training site, with frequent travel to training villages and/or Bangkok. The CC will be required to follow a six-day work week, with additional preparation time and activities in the evening, and on weekends and holidays. Major Duties and Responsibilities: Before PST Learns and understand Peace Corps goals, philosophy, and mission in Thailand. Study and understand the trainees project plan and assignment.

Become familiar with the overall objectives, design, and delivery of various PST components. Act as a senior PST staff member; foster productive and cooperative working relationships among training staff and between training staff and PC staff and trainees. Attend all staff meetings. Ensure that safety and security competencies are incorporated and actively integrated in PST components and effectively delivered to trainees so that their acquisition is properly evaluated and documented. Supports the safety and security systems that are in-place for PST, including reinforcing to trainees their roles and responsibilities related to their personal safety and security.

Pre-Service Training (PST) Group 124 During PST Assist Language Cross Cultural Coordinator (LCC) in the TOT of LIFs, utilizing past training designs and innovating new approaches. Coach and provide ongoing support to all training staff on effective approaches to facilitating trainees cross-cultural learning throughout PST. Develop PST Cross-Cultural training calendar and curriculum, including plan for session designs, activities, and assignments. Address the practical and needs of the trainees as they strive to adapt to the Thai culture, practices, and lifestyle. Determine all resource requirements for the Cross Cultural component, including supplies, guest speakers, and materials and transportation needed for special events. Make all requests for resources through the TM and schedule and support all guest speakers. Ensure the integration of the language, technical, medical, and safety and security components of training into the cross-cultural curriculum, designing activities that address multiple competencies. Act as lead Cross Cultural trainer and facilitator, implementing sessions, encouraging discussions and activities, and acting as an important resource and cultural informant. Revise competencies and design, record and evaluate all sessions accordingly. Develop materials to be used in cross-cultural sessions throughout PST, including a manual, handouts, posters, learning aids, and other materials. Assist trainees in identifying resource people and places in their villages that will help them to understand cultural practices. Collaborate with technical and language trainers to design and implement integrated community learning activities. Participate in assessment of trainees throughout the training, providing constructive feedback to PC and PST staff. Participate in permanent site placement meetings. Submit cross-cultural materials to be used in the Trainee Handbook and other publications. Conduct ongoing TOT as needed and assist LIFs in developing materials for sessions. Design and implement cross-culture component evaluation that will help Peace Corps Thailand improve cross-culture training in the future. Work with PST core- staff to develop criteria and guidelines for cross-cultural/American diversity training. Establish positive relationships with local community leaders, and ensure that thorough files on all training activities and can be used as a reference for future training.

Trainee/Volunteer Support Trainees are provided quality training and ongoing project support that equips them to be self-sufficient and to have a productive and fulfilling experience at site. The Cross Cultural Coordinator is a key support and contact person for trainees during the PST. Support duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Provide counseling, advising and support to trainees in, cross-cultural adaptation, language learning. Provide support for trainees physical needs, health, and safety and security. 2. Oversee the assessment and evaluation of trainees during PST, providing constructive input to TM, PC staff and PST staff and making recommendations of trainees for Volunteer service. 2

3. In cooperation with PST core- staff, visit trainees at the cluster villages to observe directly the results of training and obtain input for future programs. 4. Support trainees as a cross-cultural informant. Safety and Security Every Peace Corps Thailand staff member has duties and responsibilities directly and/or indirectly associated with Safety and Security. The duties and responsibilities of the Cross Cultural Coordinator, particularly as they concern trainees in their projects, include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Coordinate communication related to safety and security concerns from CD to trainees and staff. 2. Collaborate closely with the SSC to. Share responsibility for the overall safety and security of Peace Corps trainees. Be aware of Peace Corps safety and security policies and procedures and ensure that safety and security standards are adhered to. Handle calls from trainees reporting incidents (nonassault and assault), document information, and coordinate with other staff to take appropriate action. 3. In cooperation with the SSC, develop safety and security procedures and practices for the training site and ensure that trainees adhere to them. Implement the PST EAP, establish and implement the Duty Officer system, and establish effective protocol for dealing with safety and security issues at the training site. 4. Together with TM, work with PST staff to develop safety and security training competencies for PST, integrate safety and security into all components, and design and implement follow-up training throughout the pre-service training period. 5. Receive calls from trainees reporting incidents (non-assault and assault), and either refer the call to the SSC or, as appropriate, document needed information for use by other staff. Additional Duties Support trainees and serve as a cross-cultural informant and language coach. Attend language, technical, and safety and security sessions. Provide general administrative and office support as needed. Prepare correspondence, reports, and other documents related to the Cross Cultural program.

QUALIFICATIONS University degree; Prior programming and/or training experience with an international organization; Excellent communication skills; Have valid work and residency permits; Flexible, open, creative and diplomatic; Knowledge of diverse customs and practices in various regions of Thailand and the ability to communicate these to Americans; Fluency in written and spoken English; Sensitive to gender and diversity issues; Prior experience working with Americans and/or experience living abroad preferred.
