thesample.Itiseasytouse,economicalandproven.ThePinBrinelltestermakesanactualmechanicalhardnesstest-itisnotmerelyatest
ofotherpropertesthatcorrelatetoaBrinellvalue.ThePinBrinellisanimprovementovermoretraditonalimpactbarmethods.Thereis
lessoperatorinfuenceonthetestresult;itismucheasierandfastertouse;itisfarlesscostly.Thereisnocalibratonrequired.
AcalibratedshearpinftsintothePinBrinellhousing.Theshearpincomesintocontactwiththeindenterandpreventstheindenterfrom
recessingbackintothePinBrinellhousing.Theindenterispositonedagainstthesample.Loadisappliedusingeitheranimpacthammer
forimpacttestngorthroughtheuseofaC-clampforstatcloadtestng.Whentheloadisappliedwhichexceedstheshearpinsshearvalue,
thepinbreaks.TheloadtoindentatonsizeratonprovidesadisplacementthatisequivalenttothemostcommonBrinelltest(3000kgf,
10mmBall)andtheBrinellvaluesarrivedatusingthestandardBrinellformula.Thediameteroftheresultngindentatononthesampleis
thenmeasuredusingaBrinellscope,suchasourPocketorHiLightmodels,orusingourB.O.S.S.optcalscanningsystem.
AwiderangeofhardnesscanbecheckedfromHB100to700.HB100to450Brinellcanbecheckedusingthestandardindenter.Atungsten
carbideindenterisusedwhentheBrinellmeasurementisfrom300to700.
