Chapter three METHODOLOGY This chapter describes the research design, locale, sample and sampling technique, instrumentation,

data gathering procedure and statistical treatment which are essential in the development of the structural framework of the study.

I.RESEARCH DESIGN The study will use the descriptive method of nursing research. According to DE BELEN (2007), this seeks (to answer the question what was or what is). Its focus is in estimation rather than on testing or confirming hypothesis because some of the subjects that a nursing researcher would want to describe utilizing this method. Furthermore, this study will utilize qualitative approach and quantitative approach in data gathering according to

The study will benefit most the identified research method and design as the researchers would like to describe the difference in comparative assessment on learned clinical skills gained between olongapo based hospital and Makati based hospital of university of Makati senior nursing students. II. RESEARCH LOCALE The study will be conducted un the university of Makati-college of allied health studies . university of Makati is a local university funded by the local government of the city of Makati. The campus is located at J.P Rizal street extension, west rembo, Makati city which is adjacent to Makati city park. It caters to the resident of the city and offers various courses like the college of business administration, computer sciences, art sciences and education, governance and public policy and nursing. Associate and ladderized courses are also offered in order to equip young Makati students with training and education. The college of nursing which started the almost five years ago offers two distinct nursing programs. These are fresh high school graduates which are called BSN program and professional who intend to obtain the BSN degree called the Regis program. on the initial year, the college has a total population of 250 students eventually increased up to 1864 by the 1st semester of school year 2008-2009. III. SAMPLE AND SAMPLING The respondents of the research are selected fourth year regular BSN students from the college of nursing in the university of Makati. Since the population of the study are

students of the College of Allied Health Studies in the University of Makati. The researcher considered the use of non-probability sampling method specifically the random sampling in the selection of the students participants because of the size of the population. The breakdown of the population and the number of respondents who are selected from each group are as follows:

Categorization of students Regular 4th year BSN students 4th year IV-AN: 40 IV-BN: 40 IV-CN: 40 IV-DN: 40 IV-EN: 40 TOTAL: 200

total population

no. of participants

27 27 27 27 27 135

To ensure that every member of the population is equal chance of being selected for the study, the researcher got a list of students enrolled un the course and classified into various categories from the nursing students association. The students are to be selected from the list using the purposive sampling where the target number of respondents from the student group is 27. The non-probability sampling technique is to be used in getting the respondents to represent the students. The quota sampling technique is to be used since only a specific target are needed. The researcher, therefore, selected only in individuals whom the researcher are identified to be knowledgeable about the needs and concerns of the college of nursing. On the contrary the choice of the respondents who are chosen with the use of quota sampling method is 27 regular BSN students per section. IV. INSTRUMENTATION The study will utilize the researchers constructed questionnaire survey checklist. The instrument is based on the formulation specific problems of the study.it consists of three parts, namely Part1 which deal on explaining the purpose, objective, confidentiality and manner of accomplishing the questionnaire. Part II which will tackle on gathering data on terms of the profile variables of the respondents such as age, gender, fourth year level. Part III. Will focus on data gathering in terms of the assessment of the assessment learned clinical skills of the respondents between olongapo based hospital and Makati based hospital: and Part IV which will deal on data gathering in terms of the assessment

evaluation of the respondents. The instrument is presented in alikert format for the respondents can easily identify which is the best choice for a certain question.

V. DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

To conform to the standards and procedure in undertaking research and data gathering, the researcher will sought endorsement from the research adviser and permission to conduct the study from the head of the research locale. (see appendix A&B) after seeking the approval, the armchair approach or paper and pencil approach is to be utilized for collection of necessary data of the respondents. Discussion of its objectives and manner of conduction is to be done. After the explanation the respondents consent for the study is to be processed. The data collection is being planned to be conducted from November 10 to December 8, 2011 of Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays (1pm-8pm). After the data is being gathered and collected, these are to be tabulated, organized presented in an appropriate tool of data presentation, interpretation, and analysis with the application of the appropriate statistical treatment.

VI. STATISTICAL TREATMENT

In problem number 1 the researcher will use the frequency and percentage distribution in order to identify and make an objective description of the profile of the respondents. The formula as follows: . 1.) F= X Where F= frequency X= no of respondents answered in a term. 2.) Percentage distribution Fn(100%) Where F= frequency N= no of respondents In problem number 2 and 3 the researcher will use weighted mean in order to classify comparative assessment on learned clinical skills gained between olongapo based

hospital and Makati based hospital of UMAK senior nursing students. The formula as follows: x= xn

Where: x= the weighted mean X= no of respondent answered in a questionnaire N= total no of questionnaire
