Problem 1: Compute the thermal efficiency of an ideal Rankine cycle for which steam leaves the boiler as saturated vapour at 30 bars and is condensed at 1.0 bar. What is the effect of neglecting pump work on the thermal efficiency of this Rankine cycle? Also, calculate the Carnot efficiency for this cycle. (23.6%, 23.75%, 26.5%) Problem 2: Compute the thermal efficiency of an ideal Rankine cycle for which steam leaves the boiler as saturated vapour at 30 bars and is condensed at 0.1 bar. Also, calculate the Carnot efficiency for this cycle. (32.3%, 37.1%) Problem 3: Determine the thermal efficiency and the change in the steam quality leaving the turbine of an ideal Rankine cycle with superheating, for which the turbineinlet conditions are 30 bar and 500 C and the condenser pressure is 0.1 bar. Also, calculate the Carnot efficiency for this cycle. (27.9%, 4.81 kg/kW h) Problem 10: In a steam power plant utilizing the reheat cycle, the turbine-inlet condition is 30 bar and 500 C.
