Pros and Cons of Homeschooling Home schooling is the form of educating children at home in stead of at some ins titution

like school. It is mostly carried out by parents but in some cases teac hers educate the children at their home. Home schooling is also called home educ ation or home-based learning. Home schooling is carried out in the relaxed setting of your home rather than in the formal educational setting of public or private schools. It is considered to be a legal and viable option to formal school education. Mos t of the proponents of home schooling think that it is better than other schooli ng options for many reasons. It is thought to be a better system because it has some special advantages which formal schooling does not. Firstly, parents claim that the results of their children'stests are better whil e home schooling than in private or public schools. Secondly, home schooling helps the children in their studies and offers individu alized instructions based on the individual requirements of the students. Thirdly, more attention is given to every child in home schooling rather than ot her forms of schooling. Fourthly, home schooling offers a more controlled environment for learning. Pare nts or home tutors have control over the educational environment and can change it to suit the individual requirements of the student. Fifthly, some parents prefer home schooling for religious reasons. They disagree with the content being taught in public schools which is why they prefer to rai se their children in the pure teachings of their religion. Sixthly, some parents cannot afford private school and so prefer home schooling over public schools because of the benefits of home schooling. Last but not least, home schooling has proved more effective in the improvement of the moral character of children, which is due to the individualized treatment and well-controlled educational environment of home schooling. Many teachers and educational institutions oppose the concept of home schooling. There are different grounds for this opposition. First, they argue that the educational system of home schooling is sub-normal an d does not meet the standard system of education. Second, the curriculum is not approved and it does not meet the criteria. Third, the quality of education is not satisfactory. Fourth, the children who are taught under home schooling do not get a chance to socialize with other children from different ethnic and social backgrounds. In t his way, such students are liable to becoming religiously or socially intolerant . Fifth, the students are not exposed to public ups and downs and they see only a one-sided view of society. Parents unintentionally shelter their kids from a tru e multi-sided image of society. Such children face difficulties in adjusting to society because they are brought up in an artificial environment. Two, parallel societies are brought about by adopting two different educational

systems i.e. home schooling and formal schooling. These two parallel societies c annot go hand in hand and do not work well together. The standards of the commun ity and citizenship are not equally met by both societies. However, home schooling is certainly a reasonable option for people living far a way from schools and immigrants. If suitable standards of education are taken in to account, home schooling can be the more successful option.
