Checklist for SCAFFOLDING WORK

The checklists contain a series of questions to which the company should answer yes or no. All questions to which the company answers yes constitute a working environment problem that must form part of an action plan which the company must draw up in connection with the checklist. In relation to the checklists, the company must: answer all the questions in the checklist; comment on those questions to which the company answers Yes in the checklists action plan; consider what the cause of the working environment problems noted might be; draw up solutions to the working environment problems; comment on who is responsible for solving the working environment problems, and when these are expected to be solved; comment in writing on key working environment problems in the company that are not highlighted by the checklist.

ACCIDENTS
1. Are there workers who take unnecessary chances or do not use required personal protective equipment, e.g. helmets? 2. Are there accidents that are not investigated so that the same accident can be prevented from happening again? 3. Are there workers who have not been instructed and trained in their job? 4. Is there safety equipment that is not regularly checked for faults? 5. Are there workers who do not have the time that is needed to carry out their tasks in a reasonably safe manner? 6. Are there workers who carry out particularly dangerous work, cf. Annex 1 to the building site regulation?

7. Is there a risk of workers being able to fall when working at height, during installation/dismantling of scaffolding, tent coverings, etc.? 8. Is there a risk of falling through unsafe floors? 11. Is there a lack of instructions for machines that give guidelines on correct use, maintenance, etc.? 15. Are there machines that are not maintained in accordance with the manufacturers instructions or a lack of compulsory inspection? 16. Are there workers who use machines, e.g. cranes and trucks, without being licensed to do so?

HAND TOOLS AND OTHER TECHNICAL AIDS


17. Do workers work with tools for grinding, sawing, planing, cutting, etc., in a negligent manner? 18. Is there a lack of instructions for technical devices that give guidelines on correct use and maintenance, assembly, etc., e.g. scaffolding, ladders, lifts, forklift trucks and cranes? 19. Are there workers who assemble scaffolding without having attended the compulsory scaffolding courses or who work alone without have attended the courses? 20. Are there technical devices that are not maintained in accordance with the manufacturers instructions?

INTERNAL TRANSPORT AND TRAFFIC


21. Are there work areas and roadways that are not kept clean and tidy or that are inadequately lit? 22. Is there a risk of people being hit or crushed by vehicles, e.g. cars, lorries or trucks on the companys premises or building site/workplace?

33. Does considerable force need to be used to push or pull equipment such as e.g. wheelbarrows, platform trucks, sack trucks, and lifts?

46. Does the company neglect to buy the lowest-vibration machines on the market?

HAND AND ARM VIBRATIONS


47. Do workers use striking, rotating or vibrating tools or machines, e.g. drilling hammers and angle grinders in a negligent manner? 48. Do workers use tools or machines where the vibration strength, according to the instructions for use, is greater than 3 m/s2?

49. Does the weather have an effect, e.g. extreme cold or heat, cold wind, rain, draughts?

The company must be aware that special requirements are placed on the WPA in a range of areas. Among other things, the following shall apply, which the company must add to the checklist if the area is found in the company: Working environment of pregnant women Screen work Biological agents Carcinogenic substances and materials.

The company must also pay attention to the following aspects, which are not included in the checklist: Indoor climate Children and young people Psychological working environment.

The company must consider how the action plan is to be followed up, whether the action plan has had the desired effect or whether adjustments must be made. The workplace assessment must be revised at least every three years, or in the event of changes in the work, working methods or working processes that affect health and safety at work.
