DESA SINGAPADU

Location Desa Singapadu is belong to the administrative area of Kecamatan Sukawati, Kabupaten Gianyar, 12 km away from Denpasar city, 27 km from Kuta and 37 km from Nusa Dua area. The status of Mas is at the level of " Desa " which means a unit of settlement autonomous in organization traditionally relating to the religious, social, and many aspects of traditional life. Normally a Desa is consist of many smaller unit of settlement which has it's own traditional organization called " Banjar ". Yet a Desa is not necessarily consist of many Banjar organizations, yet the most important requirements to be considered to be a level of Desa is ownership of at least 3 temples, cemetery and a meeting hall. In a very simplified way the Banjar can be translated into a village. That is the existence of Desa Singapadu which is by chance this level of settlement unit consist of many Banjars. By location Singapadu is only 2 km away from Batubulan town, and even today there is no clear border between them. When one drives to Ubud or Gianyar taking short cut to Batuan the road which passing Singapadu. Which atmosphere is still like Bali dozens of years ago with very big banyan tree in the middle of the Desa, although all houses are modern .

Interest desa Singapadu


In contrast with Batubulan which offers traditional entertainment such as Barong dance, Kecak Dance, and stone carving, Desa Singapadu offers mixed interests from gold and silver works, animal safaris, Barong dance and Kecak Dance.

Taman Burung or Bali Bird Park

Taman Burung is located on the border of Desa Singapadu and Desa Batubulan which is one of the biggest specialized animal safari in Indonesia, special in collecting various species of birds both local and from other countries. The area of Taman Burung covers two hectares with many aviaries which is constructed as close as possible with birds' original habitat both for terrestrial and on trees. There are hundred of bird species which are mostly endangered species such as the endemic Bali Starling bird, or known as Jalak Bali, Macaw from American continent, Cockatoo from Australia, African heron, the famous Tanzanian flamingo, Pelican, and many others. Local birds are Indonesian cockatoo with its shining feathers, Kasuari, black cockatoo, Hornbill, and Bird or Paradise with the most complete collection in the world which reaches 250 species of exotic birds. The park is not only bird with its' habitat that are interesting but also can be seen lizard such as the Komodo dragon with the background of water fall, lotus pond, water lily and others. Bird Park is very suitable for school children which is related to their subject of biology. The type of travelers visiting Bird Park are Local, Korea, Taiwanese, and Japanese. The location is very suitable to be inserted on an itinerary of sightseeing to Ubud. The Park also offers restaurant for snack, dinner or any meal arrangement for both individual or group .

ReptilePark

Neighboring with Taman Burung or Bali Bird Park is the Taman Reptile or Reptile Park. Most of heir collection are various type of snakes from the most poisonous snakes such as cobra to very small and tremendously big Python, medium lizard and big such as the Komodo Dragon. This Reptile park is also very good place to bring the children to know each of the snake in good observation at one stop with Bird Park.

Bali Zoo Park

Bali Zoo Park offers various big and small animal, located close to the eastern border of Singapadu with Celuk, and adjacent with big gold and silver smith such as Singapadu Art Shop, Krisnayuna, and many others. The small road that connect Singapadu with Batuan are full of art shops or souvenir shops that line up on the right and left sides of the road and in the middle of left hand is strange there is a Zoo Park collecting Lion, Asian Tiger, Squirrels, Deer, Leopard, Panther, and many other animals. The animal lives in a cage, so travelers can observe it at close distance. That are the main interest of Desa Singapadu beside indeed the traditional smith of gold and silver as meticulous as silver and gold smith at Desa Celuk. Most of the smith are working at home, only small number of them have showroom, unlike in Celuk. They work with their family receiving orders from big art shops or exporters or bring their product to the shops in Ubud, Kuta, Denpasar, Nusa Dua or any places that sell as retail or wholesale . There are also association of music and dances such as Barong dance and Kecak dance at Singpadu, yet all of them are only perform on charter. The can present their dance at the village hall or at any place prepared by the hirer such as hotels, restaurant or other villages. A school of dance can be found also there, which educate the children many type of Balinese dance, especially from elementary school or early age. The school is a foundation managed by one of the famous Balinese music artist and teacher at Bali Art and Music Academy in Denpasar.

Gunung Kawi
Gunung Kawi is a Hindu Temple complex with old omission from the stone era located in Gianyar regency. Based on the inscription of Tengkulak A on 945 saka

(Balinese calendar) which is released by Marakata King, the ancient omission complex is located at the Pekerisan River then it is called Katyangan Amarawati. Pekerisan River is also named by Jalu which is according to the inscription chiseled on the above of the biggest temple door sound Haji Lumahing Jalu'. The name of Gunung Kawi is the name given on the omission which is related to the complex of temples because the temple on this area is like the symbol from the mount. There are 3 temples which so called the name as Gunung Kawi in Bali those are Gunung Kawi in Sebatu countryside, Gunung Kawi Temple in Keliki countryside and Gunung Kawi Temple in Babitra countryside. The ancient omission complex of Gunung Kawi is founded on 10 century. It is founded in the era of Udayana about 989 M. At the period of Marakata governance on 1023, the omission which is called Katyagan Amarawati is developed and continued by the governance of Anak Wungsu which is guess lead between the years of 1049 - 1077 M.

The ancient omission complex


It is consisted of 2 types:

Temple Complex. Temple complex is consisted of 2 consecutions. The consecution in eastside Pekerisan River is consisted of 5 units and the consecution at west side of river is 5 units, in the north is 4 units and 1 unit is located far in south side separate from the others. On the above of the temple consecution in particular to the Eastside River, there is an article of Kediri word type sounding Haji Lumahing Jalu'. Haji means a king, the Lumah means a temple or Sidha Dewata means to return to the nature of deity and Ing Jalu means in Pekerisan. The Jalu mean the Keris literal. The entire words mean that king is made in temple form at Pekerisan. From this article is assumed that this temple is dedicated to Udayana King which is also called Marakata and Anak Wungsu. The temple which is located in the west side of river related to all king concubines. The temples are located far in the south side is attributed to prime minister because in these temple areas existing an article Rakyan which is namely perform for high functionary of empire. Buddhist Temple Complex Buddhist Temple Complex is used as a residence and as place for meditation. It is consisted of some nooks and it is located in the cross east of Pakerisan River. Other nooks are located spread out and near the temple bunch.

Gunung Kawi is a famous tourist destination in Bali with its ancient omission so that this place is the right to visit during your vacation in the island.

Gajah Cave (Goa Gajah)

Goa Gajah, literally means 'Elephant Cave. Although named by 'elephant' it doesn't mean there is any real elephant live or ever live here. The name Goa Gajah derived from 'Lawa Gajah', which is mentioned in the manuscripts that found in this site. This temple complex was built for the first time around 11 century based on epigraph found in this site. A seven-meters deep cave with a shape of T-letter is the major attraction of this Bedulu village's local temple. The cave it self is carved in a solid stone hill of the river valley. The main figure of the carving at the cave entrance is 'boma', a barong face, accompanied with big clapping fingers on its side. Leaf, flower, and some horror figures can be noticed if we give more attention look to the rest of the carving. Some holes that are considered to be used as meditation or sleeping quarters can be found in the wall of the cave. Nowadays, those holes are used to place offerings whenever there is ceremonies taking place. On the left end side of the cave is Ganesha statue, believe it as 'the God of knowledge'. Meanwhile on the right end side can be found three 'linggas', that each of them dedicated to the three common God manifestations in Bali, Brahma, Wisnu, and Siwa. There are other three stone carvings in the centre wall, one of them figuring head and face.

Sukawati Art Market

Sukawati area is known for its art market that become 'a must see' place by tourists especially the local ones from Jakarta or other area in Java. Huge number of small stalls occupied the two stories building offer a lot of cheap souvenirs. Almost any kind of Bali's souvenirs can be found in here either painting, woodcarving, clothes, temple umbrellas and other temple accessories, leather puppet, wind chime, jewelries and others. The souvenirs choices are has huge quantity and available in various choices. Sukawati road-facing market located in_Gianyar Regency has a strategic position, as it is passed through during the tour to some destinations to the east. Sukawati art market is close to Celuk village, the center of gold & silversmiths. We can drop in after watching barong and Kris dance performance in the morning. It cans be accessed through bemo transport, tour bus or taxi.
