A sex-education teacher really knew his stuff. Using the alias Johnny Anglais, 31-year-old teacher Benedict Garrett worked as a porn star and a stripper, a tribunal in Britain has been told.
Johnny Anglais states on his website that for the past four years, he has been "teaching young people to be o p e n - m i n d e d , respectful, tolerant of others and their different opinions and to be free to express themselves without fear of oppression". "Now that my life has suddenly changed, I'm a man with a mission," he wrote. "That mission is to bring these teachings to the rest of the world and to unashamedly demonstrate the art of pleasure in the realms of f i t n e s s , s e x a n d entertainment." Mr Garrett, who continues to work as a stripper, has been accused of "raking in cash" as Johnny Anglais. "The General Teaching Council panel in Birmingham heard how Mr Garrett 'undertook work of a pornographic nature' and 'performed as a stripper in public place' while employed at Beal High School," "The tribunal was told how the former head of personal, social, health and economic education, also left inappropriate voicemail messages on the associate

"I said, 'If you ask me in an appropriate manner I will tell you'," he said. When a Year 7 student asked him what a vibrator was, M r G a r r e t t explained. Mr Garrett represented himself at the hearing and said teachers should be able to keep their professional and private lives separate. H e s a i d schools should prepare children for the 'real world' and the increasing availability of porn. "It (porn) is not going anywhere," he said. "Pornography is here to stay, the internet is here to stay, social networking is here to stay. "Being told that it's wrong, that it's immoral is not an appropriate response." Mr Garrett had "previously admitted working as a hard-core porn star before

Beritabali.com reports that the chief of the Service, Made Santha, points to the rising number of traffic accidents, with 300 traffic fatalities recorded in Bali during the first three months of 2011, as proof of widespread disregard for safety. Most of Bali's traffic fatalities involve motorcyclists. Santha said: Frequently the public ignore safe practice. Is Your Hotel Sinking?

Saltwater Intrusion Threatens to Undermine Hotels on Bali's Beachfronts
Hotels along Bali's beaches are in danger of collapse due to the disappearance and erosion of subsurface soil. This condition is caused by the acute depletion of water reservoirs that creates large subterranean caverns and the danger of subsidence. A s r e p o r t e d b y Beritabali.com, the chairman of the Center for Sustainable Development at Bali's Udayana University, Dr. Dharma Putra, says the tendency of subsidence along Bali's beaches is predicated on the intrusion of seawater into the water table. Saltwater intrusion is now estimated to have .penetrated to a distance of 20-25 meters inland in some areas along Bali's coastline. Putra warns that hotels in these areas could someday collapse due to growing caverns hidden underground. Dr. Dharma Putra continued, actually, in terms of construction, new hotels have already prepared for this contingency; it is the older hotels that are risk. He went on to explain that hotels in Nusa Dua or on the Ungasan peninsula are relatively safe, built on limestone and coral. He contends the hotels most in danger of collapse are located in Kuta where the soil composition is mostly sand. The respected academic flagged Kuta, Tanjung Benoa and Sanur as the areas where saltwater intrusion is most acute in Bali Www.balidiscovery.com

He emphasized that motorcycles are only designed for travel over short distances with a maximum of two passengers. Nationwide, the Ministry of Transportation records 30,000 people lose their lives each year in Indonesia while operating motorbikes. Worldwide 1.5 million people die each year as the results of motorcycle mishaps. www.balidiscovery.com

BALI THE RIGHT WAY

owdy again folks, and hasn't it been a while between drinks. The paper (for the first time in its five year history) has had the last week on holidays along with all our trusted Muslim friends for the annual Hari Raya, or Idul Fitri and we hope everyone enjoyed their time with the family and had a great (as little as it was) bit of time off. I'm not sure where I should start this week, the footy over the past fortnight, the emails in reply to the last editorial or the traffic which Aaliasj@kutaweekly.com has been the basis for many a conversation after trying to get anywhere in the past few weeks. As you all know, Idul Fitri brings travellers from all over Indonesia and the world, and this year was no exception with many out of town cars doing the obligatory blocky and checking out the sights down the main strip. I for one was happy to take up a seat along the way and watch as the masses took to the strip in abundance. Again I hope you all enjoyed your time off and look forward to getting back on track for the next year. Moving along with the footy, it seems Sydney had a great win over Geelong a few weeks ago which put the mighty Pies in line for a win, but, Geelong didn't want to have a loss twice in row and came out with a full class effort against the Magpies last Friday night resulting in an almost 100 point smashing right to the back of the head. By George, after the tears stopped, I watched the game again and found a certain un surety in the way Mick Malthouse wasn't screaming and shouting and pointing the finger in his usual manner when the team gets belted like that and can only hope he was resting the lads in readiness for the finals. I don't think Malthouse will accept a loss like that this weekend, and bid all challengers good luck for the finals. The next four weeks will be great. I don't want to bark on about the footy, but, I have it on good authority that the dark horses of the season are the Hawks. Time will tell I guess and I say bring it on. A lot of new comers to Bali, and expats will notice the huge number of kites that are flying at the moment and that means its kite season again. You may see bloody great cane constructions being carried down the main streets at different times of the day by excited local youths all heading for the beach to get their kites into the air. Your will also notice the sound of the strings vibrating in the wind, It sort of sounds like a constant whistling. A great time of year for the island. I was told once a kite was responsible for bringing a small helicopter down after it collected the kite's tether, remembering that some of the large ones have very thick rope to fly them. Mostly you will see little handmade versions at about 500 feet with a smiling Balinese kid at the other end. Great stuff. Ok punters it's time to peel out for another week and taste test a few little greenys with the usual suspect and deliberate on the cost of a steak sandwich for a while. What a pathetic existence we have. I hope the island is good to you all this week and that you stay safe, happy, healthy and always remember, much of our activity these days is nothing more than a cheap anesthetic to deaden the pain of an empty life. Enjoy your week, Karn the Pies, ALIASJ Rest in Peace Mum

Italy town mints own money to fight austerity

Filettino, set in rugged hill country around 100 km (65 miles) east of Rome, is rebelling against a proposal to merge the governments of towns with fewer than 1,000 inhabitants to save money.
Filettino has only around 550 people, but instead of merging with neighbouring Trevi, mayor Luca Sellari is trying to go t alone and set up a "principality " along the lines of the famous republic of San Marino to the north. H e has started minting Filettino's own bank currency, the "Fiorito," with his photo on the back, which he says is already being used by the townsfolk. "We aim to achieve real autonomy from Italy and we have the financial resources to do it," Sellari said in an interview on the town's website There was no immediate comment from the central government in Rome. Mayors from all over Italy are up in arms about proposals to cut local government funding and merge small towns as part of a 45.5 billion euro (40.27 billion pounds) austerity plan to balance the country's budget by 2013. Mayors plan a protest in Milan although reports say the government is preparing significant changes to the budget, including a substantial dilution of the proposals on local government. i

Husband fined $13k for not having sex

The former couple, known only as JeanLouis and Monique, had been married for 21 years and had two children when Monique decided to take her husband to court. Jean-Louis, 51, was fined 10,000 Euro ($13,370) under a civil code that states married couples must agree to a "shared communal life", "A sexual relationship between husband and wife is the expression of affection they have for each other, and in this case it was absent," the judge said. "By getting married, couples agree to 4 share their life and this clearly implies they will have sex with each other." Jean-Louis' job and ill-health prevented him from fulfilling his matrimonial duties, the court was told.

O Lord Won't Buy Me a Mercedes Benz?

Governor Wins Legal Battle for Control of Taman Festival Complex in Legal Battle with Mercedes Benz Mogul Hartono.
A prolonged legal battle between the provincial government of Bali and an Indonesian businessman over the title to the defunct Bali Taman Festival project may finally be coming to a conclusion. Radar Bali reports that a legal appeal brought by Hari Boedihartono (Hartono) against the governor of Bali for control of the 9.5 hectare site near Padang Galak in Sanur has been won by the Governor. Hartono is the owner of the local Mercedes Benz dealership and a hotel property in Kuta. During the administration of Ida Bagus Oka, the province entered into a joint-venture with Indonesian businessmanand timber tycoon Bambang Pengestu for a proposed US$100 million entertainment complex near Sanur Taman Festival Bali. The soft opening in 1997 gave visitors a glimpse of a promised complex comprised of an amusement park, dining venues, a mini-brewery, animal exhibits, outside performance stage and a faux volcano rigged to explode every night at 7:00 p.m.. The park, however, eventually went bankrupt and closed its doors with the developer unable to complete the construction. In the intervening years the park has fallen into adject neglect and disrepair. Apparently, Pangestu pledged the Taman Festival Bali Developer land as collateral with a bank that in turn sold the lease to Hartono who has been aggressvely trying to take

possession of the valuable coastal land ever since. The province of Bali, however, has declared the lease agreement non-valid by virtue of Pangestu's failure to deliver on his obligation to build the promised park and the fact that the land was, in any case, only leased by the province and never deeded to Pangestu. Bali's provincial authorities maintain that Pangestu's pledging of land he did now own to a bank was not legal. An initial suit over control and ownership of the land before the Surabaya courts was won by Bali. Hartono's efforts to appeal that decision also ended in failure with Bali's rights over the land being reaffirmed by the Jakarta appellate court. Based on the courts' decisions, the governor's office is now taking the necessary steps with the State Land Agency (BPN) to assume control of the land. www.balidiscovery.com

Plans to Increase Parking Fees

Denpasar Officials Want to Increase Parking Fees Between 50% and 100%.
Denpasar's plans to increase parking fees by between 50% to 100% is drawing criticism from a number of quarters. If implemented, the new plan would increase the cost of parking a motorcycle from Rp. 1,000 (US$0.12) to Rp. 2,000 (US$0.23) and for a car from Rp. 2,000 (US$0.23) to Rp. 3,000 (US$0.34). Claiming the increase in parking fees will be too burdensome to the public, legislators from the Denpasar House of Representatives (DPRD-Denpasar) are threatening to oppose the parking fee increase which, if approved, would come into effect in late September. Fees collected from parking lots in Denpasar total Rp. 26.38 billion (US$3.22 million) and from roadside parking Rp. 6.34 billion (US$720,000). www.balidiscovery.com

Worthwhile as recent ideas or offers are, and eager as you may be to see them become reality, you'd regret rushing things. These are more complicated than they appear to be. Czechs order obese soldiers to tighten belts

Military doctors raised the alarm when they discovered that half of the army's 22,000 personnel are overweight, and 3,500 are obese, The army has decided on a quick counterattack: Soldiers will go on a diet and the army may even deploy fat-fighting pills.

Scorpio Oct 23 - Nov 21 It's been a week since the Sun superbly aspected your ruler Pluto, triggering ideas or offers so good you may well have been suspicious of them. Now that you've had time both to gather facts and to think about what they'd involve, you're no longer wary. You might even be feeling excited. Sagittarius Nov 22 - Dec 21
Certain individuals insist on analysing what's unquestionably a brilliant situation. While you instantly recognised the potential of the events triggered by the recent stunning aspect to your ruler Jupiter, a few days ago, others still need to convince themselves they're worthwhile. Leave them to it. Meanwhile, do whatever you can without their support.

Taurus Apr 20 - May 20 Discussing alterations in your work or lifestyle is one thing. But actually committing to those changes is another. Much as you dread the idea, you know certain individuals are keen. Besides, once you're talking things over and others show an unexpected willingness, you'll begin to recognise how you'd benefit from those changes. Gemini May 21 - Jun 20 The odds are good you're still struggling with the fallout from your ruler Mercury's retrograde cycle. The problem isn't the actual mistakes, many of which were minor, but that others can't be bothered to deal with them. Since, clearly, so many won't tackle them without pressure, begin by setting an example. Cancer Jun 21 - Jul 22
By the time the Full Moon's taken place, a week from now, others will be clearer about their feelings and you'll have better defined certain of your own as well. Knowing that, resist the temptation to raise already tense issues. Urgent as they seem, the fact is, they can wait.

A man known as the Naked Rambler for a walk across Britain has been thrown in jail for contempt of court after appearing at earlier hearing wearing no clothes.

Capricorn Dec 22 - Jan 19 Much as you loathe others making decisions for you, in certain situations those who've taken over are better informed. If in doubt, ask what's behind their thinking. You'll not only be convinced they're right, you'll realise their ideas are worth listening to. Some could substantially alter your perspective on pivotal issues. Aquarius Jan 20 - Feb 18
Others weren't actually making decisions behind your back. Rather, they had the impression that you weren't interested in discussing the situations in question. The best way to reverse that is by getting involved now. While your views and theirs may clash, ultimately everybody will benefit from the resulting lively exchange of ideas.

the court process. Proceedings were delayed while court staff found a piece of paper for him to sit on, "for hygiene reasons". Gough has been arrested outside Perth Prison several times as police wait for his latest sentence to expire and meet him outside the jail.

Bull semen spill causes scare, closes highway

A spill of frozen bull semen bound for a breeder in the state of Texas triggered a scare that temporarily shut down a U.S. interstate highway during the morning rush hour.
The incident began when the driver of a Greyhound bus carrying the freight alerted the fire department he had lost a part of his load while negotiating the ramp on a highway near Nashville. "We didn't know what it was, but we were told (the canisters) were non-toxic," said Maggie Lawrence, a fire department spokeswoman. When firefighters arrived on the ramp, they saw "four small propane-sized canisters (that) began to emit a light vapor," Lawrence said. In addition to the vapor, the canisters also let off an unpleasant odor and the ramp was closed while emergency personnel tried to determine what was in the containers. around to retrieve the canisters. Once emergency personnel learned the smoking canisters were nothing hazardous and that they simply contained frozen bull semen that had been stored on dry ice, Tennessee Department of Transportation and fire department workers cleared the ramp. "It was no different to us than if a mattress fell off a truck," said transportation spokeswoman B.J. Doughty.

Leo Jul 23 - Aug 22 If you're in a good mood, it's no surprise. Over the past week your ruler the Sun has brilliantly aspected both Pluto and the expansive Jupiter. While some of what's come your way has been thrilling, certain other opportunities may be so unexpected that you haven't yet recognised them for what are. Virgo Aug 23 - Sep 22 While everybody will have benefitted from the insights triggered by last week's Virgo New Moon, obviously they'll have meant far more to you. Some make sense already. But others remain very puzzling indeed. That could be because the actual circumstances involved are still shifting. Be patient. Within days they'll be clearer.

Pisces Feb 19 - Mar 19

There's no doubt that, in time, you'll benefit from the thrilling events reshaping the life of somebody close to you. Still, a part of you worries that they'll be swept away by the excitement of what's taking place and forget you. Uncomfortable as these vulnerable feelings are, they're also what make you special.

City introduces "tax meters" for prostitutes

Prostitutes in the German city of Bonn must carry a ticket purchased from a new parking meter-like machine while working the streets or face hefty fines from tax authorities in a new scheme which has been launched.
In Germany, ladies of the night pay income tax -- the level of which varies from region to region -- but compliance is difficult to enforce with women seeking business on the street. Germany's first "sex tax meters," from which prostitutes can purchase a ticket for 6 euros ($8.72) per night, will ensure the tax system is fairly implemented, a city spokeswoman said. "Inspectors will monitor compliance -- not every evening but frequently," If caught without a valid ticket, offenders will first be reprimanded, then face fines and later even a ban. About 200 prostitutes work in Bonn. Due to protests from residents, city officials have limited the areas of operation to specific quarters. made it easier for prostitutes to ply their trade. The city has erected what officials call "consummation areas," wooden parking garages where customers driving cars can retreat to with

Boy trapped in bus after driver forgets him

An eight-year-old boy was inadvertently locked inside a school bus for more than 12 hours on a steamy hot day in the eastern German town of Cottbus after the driver forgot about him,
The boy got on the bus at his home in the morning but did not show up for school. After dropping the children off, the bus driver returned to the bus company's transport lot but did not notice that the one young passenger was still on board. "The bus was parked far away and wasn't very visible from the office," police spokesperson Torsten Wendt was quoted saying. It was only when his mother anxiously called the authorities that boy's disappearance was noticed. After hours of searching, the boy was found on the bus later that night in reasonably good spirits even though the temperature had climbed to 30 degrees Celsius. less on the floor under the seats. He even rationed his school-lunch so that it might last all night. "The bus driver forgot me," the boy told police, according to Bild. It was not immediately clear why he did not speak out before the driver left the bus. Police are investigating whether to charge the driver with negligence.

ALL ABOUT BALI

Bali's 10 best dive sites
Diving in Bali Want to plunge into the deep blue and get your mind blown by Bali's underwater wildlife? Head right this way.
Bali's dive sites offer great diversity: vertical walls and sand slopes, shipwrecks, limestone shorelines and black, volcanic outcrops, peaceful bays and ripping currents, coral-covered ridges, with both shore- and boat-diving. Expect to see mantas, whale sharks and, from July through October, oceanic sunfish. Diving safaris are becoming the package of choice for those who want to see more of underwater Bali. These are basically hotel/diving and transport packages. Because you're staying near the dive sites, you can do earlier and later dives and avoid the day-tripping crowds from the tourist areas that pack out popular sites. It also allows you to do more dives each day. Snorkelling is available at Tulamben, Amed, Padang Bai and Pemuteran/Menjangan, so non-diving partners and children can often join day trips and safaris. Here are Bali's 10 best: 1. USAT Liberty The Liberty shipwreck is considered Bali's most popular dive site. The American ship USAT Liberty was an armed cargo steamship that was torpedoed by the Japanese in 1942. The years under the sea have transformed it to one of Indonesia's most beautiful artificial reefs. Stunning gorgonian sea fans, huge soft coral trees and big-barrel sponges all flourish here. A resident school of big-eyed jacks live on and around the ship and are unafraid of divers, so it's safe to enter the school and have them whirl around you. The ship is also a haven for emperors, batfish, sweetlips and parrotfish. 2. Tulamben drop-off On the northeast coast, Tulamben Bay receives very planktonrich waters and, coupled with the fact that the three main dive sites provide totally different physical environments, the bay is a stunning and diverse underwater ecosystem. The black sand in the area brings out the colours of the corals, gorgonians, fish and other marine life. At the south end of the bay, a rocky point falls off sharply underwater to create a deep drop-off where sharks, whale sharks and sunfish have been found. 3. Amed Amed lies to the south, along the eastern coastline. It was traditionally dependent on saltpanning and fishing, and despite the arrival of tourists it's retained that feeling. There are three main dive sites here; head south to the shipwreck at Lipah fishing village, or a bit further south to the drift dive at Gili Selang, Bali's easternmost point. 4. Lipah shipwreck This village is tiny and so is the wreck, which can be found at the inner bay drop-off at the north end of Lipah Bay. Divers can take a boat down the coast, or just drive along the winding coast and walk in. It's full of copper sweepers, a batfish school, hard coral growth and waving sea fans, and can be both dived or snorkelled. Go with a good guide, as the currents can come up fast and strong. 5. Gili Tepekong This big volcanic hump rises out of the water not far from the Candi Dasa shore on the south-east coast. Underwater, the area is covered with Medusa-like heads that vary in size from huge boulders to small sea gardens. They are adorned with blood-red sea fans, tunicates and sponges. In some spots, the competition for space amid the corals is incredible. Other sites include Gili Mimpang and Gili Biaha. Currents are common in this area, but that means pelagic life like big tuna, jacks, sharks and even mola mola come in here. 6. Blue Lagoon The shallow reefs of Blue Lagoon, near Padang Bai, are used for introductory dives, night dives and long photo excursions. Staghorn coral patch reefs start in only 3m of water. The reef then opens out onto an area with huge coral bommies,
soft leather corals and flowing anemones. The area here can be good for macro buffs; there are rumours of a lacey scorpionfish being seen here as well. 7. Napoleon Reef Named for a large Napoleon wrasse seen here, Napoleon Reef is in the north near Pemuteran. It can be dived deep or shallow, day or night. On the northeast end is the Ikan Warung fish house, bustling with various schools. Golden sea fans and large clumps of cotton-candy coral grow beside other gorgonians along the slope. 8. Menjangen Island The drop-offs at Menjangan Island can be a real treat. This is the site of a now abandoned guard post that has a broad channel leading to the beach. Expect to be greeted by batfish. The dive offers spectacular corals and many deep crevices and fissures, as well as small caves. Sleeping groupers and wary big-eyed jacks are found in the dark recesses. 9. Crystal Bay Crystal Bay, on Nusa Penida, is protected and relatively shallow, offering enjoyable conditions for divers of all levels. The bay has two entrances and a large rock sits in the centre. Be careful when diving this central rock, or along the outside edge of the bay, as the current can be strong, sweeping divers out along the outside wall into very tricky diving conditions. When near the drop-off, look for larger creatures, such as molas, eagle rays, dogtooth tuna, sharks and an occasional bumphead wrasse. Schooling surgeonfish are abundant in some spots. 10. Manta Point Lucky divers may have a close encounter with the manta rays that are known to traverse this dive site. One of the mantas is pure white, a truly unearthly creature. Manta Point is located along the high and rugged cliffs of Nusa Penida, so it's not always easy to get there due to the big swells that sometimes hit, but it's worth it to experience these gentle, graceful creatures.

So, I was going to leave after Communion & steal McGlynn's hat." The priest said, "Well, Murphy, I notice that ya didn't steal McGlynn's hat. What changed your mind?" Murphy replied, "Well, after I heard your sermon on the 10 Commandments, I decided that I didn't need to steal McGlynn's hat after all." With a tear in his eye the priest gave Murphy a big smile & said; "After I talked about ' Thou Shalt Not Steal' ya decided you would rather do without your hat than burn in Hell?" Murphy slowly shook his head. "No, Father, after ya talked about 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery ' I remembered where I left me hat.

Astronomers discover planet made of diamond

The new planet is far denser than any other known so far and consists largely of carbon. Because it is so dense, scientists calculate the carbon must be crystalline, so a large part of this strange world will effectively be diamond.
"The evolutionary history and amazing density of the planet all suggest it is comprised of carbon -- i.e. a massive diamond orbiting a neutron star every two hours in an orbit so tight it would fit inside our own Sun," said Matthew Bailes of Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne. Lying 4,000 light years away, or around an eighth of the way toward the center of the Milky Way from the Earth, the planet is probably the remnant of a oncemassive star that has lost its outer layers to the so-called pulsar star it orbits. Pulsars are tiny, dead neutron stars that are only around 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) in diameter and spin hundreds of times a second, emitting beams of radiation. In the case of pulsar J1719-1438, the beams regularly sweep the Earth and have been monitored by telescopes in Australia, Britain and Hawaii, allowing astronomers to detect modulations due to the gravitational pull of its unseen companion planet. The measurements suggest the planet, which orbits its star every two hours and 10 minutes, has slightly more mass than Jupiter but is 20 times as dense. In addition to carbon, the new planet is also likely to contain oxygen, which may be more prevalent at the surface and is probably increasingly rare toward the carbon-rich center. Its high density suggests the lighter elements of hydrogen and helium, which are the main constituents of gas giants like Jupiter, are not present. Just what this weird diamond world is actually like close up, however, is a mystery. "In terms of what it would look like, I don't know I could even speculate," said Ben Stappers of the University of Manchester. "I don't imagine that a picture of a very shiny object is what we're looking at here."

"I'm not really willing to speculate or deal in the rumours. "Everyone has got to respect that we've got a big game this week. Smith had only been elevated to the club's four-man leadership group when McKay left for Scottish giants Rangers recently. A western Colorado logger said that he amputated all the toes on his right foot with a pocket knife to free himself after a 7-ton trailer landed on his foot, trapping him in an isolated forest. Jon Hutt, 61, of Montrose, Colorado, said he's "on the mend" after the harrowing incident. Hutt was gathering a load of firewood for the upcoming winter months in a remote area west of Telluride, Colorado. As he was working on his tractor-trailer, the trailer lurched, became detached and landed on his foot. "It was like stepping into a bear trap," he said. Unable to free himself, Hutt said he hollered for help but after 30 minutes realized "no one was coming," and he needed to take drastic action before shock set in. Utilizing the 3-inch blade on his pocket knife, Hutt cut away his boot and saw that his only option was to cut off all five toes to escape. "The three smaller toes

Deans told reporters. "Our first two opponents we've had a challenge with in recent times. It starts on Sunday. "We've got to get past that. We are approaching Sunday as our last game." Only a few weeks ago, O'Connor was one of Australian rugby's most valuable players and was the designated goalkicker and his Test wing spot seemed secure. But the 21-year-old paid the price for failing to show up to the Wallabies' World Cup squad announcement and team photo and was sidelined for the Tri Nations decider for disciplinary reasons. It was reported that he had overslept after a night out drinking in Sydney's eastern suburbs. The absence of the gifted winger in the starting line-up will likely mean fly half Quade Cooper will take over the goalkicking duties against Italy. Meanwhile, Anthony Fainga'a will keep the outside

centre position and Adam Ashley-Cooper will stay on the wing. O'Connor was brought back onto the Australian bench at the expense of Rob Horne, while Tatafu Polota-Nau and Rob Slipper returned to the Test fold for the first time this year in place of Saia Fainga'a and Salesi Ma'afu. Injury had kept both Polota-Nau and Slipper out of action for the Wallabies' five Tests this year, but both men played nearly 70 minutes in the Australian Barbarians' warm-up match against Canada two Fridays ago. The Wallabies left Sydney early on Tuesday morning for New Zealand and were welcomed at Auckland Airport with a haka. Deans' men will have a training session later in the afternoon before attending an official welcoming ceremony in Auckland's CBD on Tuesday night.

'I had to cut some of your penis off

An American man suing a doctor for amputating his penis says he wanted to flee the hospital when he learned part of his penis had been removed.
Former Kentucky truck driver Phillip Seaton testified during a civil trial against Dr. John Patterson that the doctor came into his room after the 2007 surgery that was supposed to have been a circumcision. Dr Patterson's lawyer said during opening arguments that he had no choice but to remove the tip of MR Seaton's penis because it was riddled with deadly penile cancer. Mr Seaton recalled Patterson telling him, "The bad news is you have cancer. The good news is I had to cut some of your penis off." Mr Seaton said he then went into the restroom. "I pulled the dressing down, and I didn't see nothing," Mr Seaton said under questioning by his lawyer, Kevin George. "Then I came out of the restroom and I said, 'I'm getting the hell out of this damn hospital.'" Mr Seaton, 64, and his wife, Deborah, are seeking unspecified damages for "loss of service, love and affection". The Seatons have already sued Jewish Hospital, where the surgery took place. The case was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.

Toronto-based Nikki has faith in her abilities and would take the challenge, if she was available. "I am the real thing so I don't have to worry about this stuff," Nikki said. The challenge is being made by the Florida-based James Randi Educational Foundation, founded by magician and skeptic James Randi to educate the public and media on the dangers of accepting unproven claims, and to support research into paranormal claims in controlled scientific conditions. Although the $1-million US challenge has been around for years, Randi recently reissued the challenge, directing it at celebrity

"Kelly has remained a consistent icon of Australia and Australian bush life, so therefore it has a high level of significance from the Australian community because it's part of its cultural heritage," "From a point of view of Australian culture there's always been this dichotomy of Ned Kelly the police killer and the folk hero at a time of unrest and tensions." Broncos play it safe on Thaiday

Brisbane star Sam Thaiday will miss his team's first two NRL finals matches after entering an early guilty plea to his dangerous throw charge.
His decision to accept a two-match suspension means Thaiday is sure to be available to play should the Broncos win through to the grand final, possibly earlier depending on the how the finals play out. The Queensland and Australian forward was charged with a grade two dangerous throw for his lifting tackle on Manly prop Brent Kite on Sunday. Brisbane made the decision on Tuesday to take the early plea after seeking legal advice and poring over hours of video of lifting tackles. Club officials had considered going to a judiciary hearing with the hope of getting the charge downgraded, in which case he would have escaped a st suspension and been free to play in Saturday night's first qualifying final against the Warriors at Lang Park. However they deemed the risk of having an extra week added to Thaiday's ban was not worth taking. Coach Anthony Griffin will name Thaiday's replacement later in the week with either 2010 rookie of the year Matt Gillett or utility Ben Te'o to earn a start in the back row. Griffin will also name Gerard Beale at full-back after scans on Monday confirmed Josh Hoffman's season was over after he ruptured his posterior cruciate ligament playing against Manly at the weekend.

But mystery remains over the location of Kelly's skull, which was last thought to have sat on the desk of a Victorian state police detective in 1929. Scientists have used DNA from Kelly's great great nephew to identify the bushranger's bones from others in a mass prison grave. "To think a group of scientists could identify the body of a man who was executed more than 130 years ago, moved and buried in a haphazard fashion among 33 other prisoners, most of whom are not identified, is amazing," Victoria's state establishment. He was sentenced to death for murder over his gang's killing of three policemen, and he was hanged in Melbourne Gaol on November 11, 1880. After his death, Kelly's body was buried in the grounds of the old Melbourne Gaol and a death mask was made from his head. When the gaol closed in 1929, Kelly's remains and the bones of other prisoners were exhumed and re-buried in a mass grave at the newer Pentridge Prison. Kelly's skull may have been separated from his skeleton during the transfer.

Cats tip thriller against Hawks

The only thing Geelong captain Cameron Ling is taking from the Cats' six-win streak against Hawthorn is that Friday night's qualifying final will be a blockbuster.
While the Cats have won every match between the two clubs since their upset defeat in the 2008 grand final, all have been extremely hard fought. Geelong's average winning margin throughout the streak is just seven points, with the greatest margin 19 points in round five this year, with even that match in the balance until the final minutes. "We just know we're in for a really good game of footy," Ling said. "Because they're a quality footy team, they play footy the right way. "They've got mature players who know how to play the performance was due to the Magpies having a poor night. And he says the Hawks' performance against the Suns, while resting eight star players, is virtually irrelevant. "We probably won't look too closely at the weekend's game and last time we played them was probably too long ago," Scott said. "Their form's been really good over a long period of time this season. "We certainly expect them to play somewhere near their best, which means it's going to be one hell of a contest, assuming we can play somewhere near our best." Despite their big win against the Magpies, the Cats have several selection posers, including whether to recall veteran key forward Cameron Mooney. Joel Corey, Tom Lonergan and Mathew Stokes are all likely to be available, after missing the Magpies clash through injury.

game and so do we. That equals usually a pretty good contest. "We enjoy playing against them because we always know it's going to be a really hard contest and we need to be at our best." Neither Ling nor Cats coach Chris Scott were reading too much into either Geelong's 96point belting of Collingwood on Friday night or Hawthorn's narrow shave against wooden spooners Gold Coast the following day. Scott says although he is confident the Cats are wellprepared for finals, it was hard to

He says with the Magpies having come off a 2011 season extended by the grand final replay, then winning the preseason competition, they have performed consistently at a high level for a very long time. "When you analyse the whole lot, we've been up for a heck of a long time and there is a human reaction," Malthouse said. Maxwell also says players can be excused for looking ahead to finals, given they had known they had top spot sewn up and were already locked in to play the Eagles on the first weekend of the finals.

Skipper Maxwell has recovered from a thumb fracture, after missing the Magpies' past three fixtures, Davis is also expected to be available after sitting out Friday night's 96-point loss to Geelong with hamstring tightness, while Shaw has been suspended for the past eight matches. But Malthouse questions whether it is a risk recalling three backmen coming off absences of various lengths. "A player like Heath Shaw. Does he play this week?
