Home is an essential piece of everyones life. Home is where you can drop your burdens, your worries, your sorrow, where you can be you. Its your haven from the madness called life; its the refuge from the raging storm. My house has become my true home because of the people who live in it, memories made in it, and effort I put into building it. My family has always played a vital role in my life, and no matter where we moved they were a constant source of support. The various homes I have lived in are the markers for the transitions of my life. My first home was a normal suburban house when my mother passed away. My second home marked the awkwardness of adolescence and rough transition from elementary school to the jungle of middle school. My third and current home marks the beginning of my new family and beginnings of adult hood. My present house has become home to me because it holds a renewed family and reflects the person I have become after all the changes I experienced in my first and second homes. Memories of our past define our future; the memories I have created in my home are priceless. Laughter from the falling 12 foot Christmas tree, tears shed from fish dying, giggles between girls during a sleepover, squeals from opening birthday presents. These memories are cherished above all else because no matter what happens in this life, I will always be able to look back and smile at that house: that house where my memories are clearest and the most life lessons learned. Photo albums are not the only keepers of memories, the very walls of my house hold memories that time cannot weather. As I grow older and prepare to leave my home for college, my house and sense of home become more precious, I have started to realize how much home means. One of the main reasons my house has become a true home instead of a simple residency is that I put blood sweat and tears into building it. There is no greater feeling then watching your future home rise from a pile of concrete foundations to having the wall studs set in place, and finally color painted on the walls. Designing our own house gives us the unique opportunity to transfer the familys personality and needs into the house design such as our gym, kitchen built for cooks, and my personal favorite, the third floor tower that is my room. These features and many others are defining factors in the Eckstein household that tell a story of their own, and create a sanctuary that is entirely my own. When I come home, I come home to a loving family, cherished memories, and the sweet taste of accomplishment.
