STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

At this juncture, where I, Prashanth A V have made one of the most crucial and
obvious decisions of my professional career, I would like to list the factors that
influenced me most in making this decision.

An enormous number of challenges, thrown out by rapid development in science

and technology, have made me choose engineering profession. I take this opportunity to
describe my educational background and career objectives that motivated me to pursue a
career in Mechanical Engineering at Bangalore Institute of Technology, a prestigious
institution under Visveswaraiah Technological University. My undergraduate education
has provided a thorough exposure to the various specialties available in Mechanical
Engineering, thus stimulating interest in advanced research.

In my undergraduate years, I’ve acquired a strong background in the fundamentals of the

basic mechanical engineering subjects like Thermodynamics, Solid Mechanics, Fluid
mechanics, CAD/CAM, Design of machine elements etc. I have also had an introduction
to specialized areas like Finite Element Techniques and Operations Research.

My project work during my final year of undergraduate course gave me a lot of exposure
and liking for the subject. The project I worked on was “PERFORMANCE
EVALUATION OF SUB-ZERO TREATED K-10 TURNING INSERTS”, this deals with
an overview of the effect of subzero thermal treatment on the tool life and wear
characteristics of coated tungsten carbide cutting tool inserts. I found this project to be
very challenging and interesting. Similarly in my view, I feel that extra curricular
activities are as important as studies in estimating a person's overall capacity. As a chess
player and volleyball player representing the university, I am in a position that many
athletes would covet.

With this ambition I am confident that my academic capability and analytical skills
coupled with my perseverance and single-minded devotion will see me through to this
goal of pursuing my master’s degree at your prestigious university. Browsing through the
University’s homepage, I feel that the Graduate Study at your university holds a lot of
promise to me. The breadth and depth of the courses coupled with a stimulating research
environment seem to me the right mix for seminal work and pioneering research.

At this point of time in my education and career, I understand that it is the right time for
me to pursue my higher studies in mechanical engineering at your esteemed university. I
am sure that, under the proficiency of your skilled staff, I will fulfill your expectations.
Hence I appeal to the graduate admission committee to consider me for admission.
