Chapter 28; Exodus, The Priestly Garments, The Ephod, The Breastpiece and other

Priestly Garments

The lesson for Chapter 29 of Exodus will be posted the first weekend
of October. Hopefully this will give all participants a fall break to
catch up on previous material/chapters and perhaps begin reading
ahead.
This week I would ask that you delve into Chapter 28 for a few answers as we study
together. NOTE: Credit is given to Beth Moores curriculum on the Tabernacle which is

once again being consulted for this lesson.

First, list the name of the priests for whom these special garments are being made this
week:

What six items were to be included in the making of these garments?

NOTE: Remember the representation of fine linen found in Revelation 19:8 is the
righteous acts of the saints!
Moving on to the ephod described in 6-14; this article of clothing can be described as a
sleeveless vest worn as an outer garment. It was attached at the shoulders and there was
a belt/girdle worn around the ephod that was embroidered with the same colors. Look at
the description for the ephod. What stones were used at the shoulders?

What was engraved on these stones?

___________________________________________________________________
Was there a particular order for these stones?

These gems were to be cut by an engraver (like a jeweler) as a signet, mounted in settings
of gold and would serve as a memorial. The onyx settings on the ephod were attached by
gold chains.
Now for the breastpiece:
What was the shape of the breastpiece? _____________________________________
Dimensions? __________________________________________________________
Try drawing a small scale picture of this breastpiece and label all the stones:

There was to be an engraving on each of the stones. What was to be engraved?

___________________________________________________________________
When was the breastpiece to be worn?
___________________________________________________________________
___________________________________________________________________
What other two objects were to be put into the breastpiece? What was their purpose?
___________________________________________________________________
___________________________________________________________________
___________________________________________________________________
Additionally, what was added to the hem of the priests garment? Why?

___________________________________________________________________
Last couple of questions.you are almost there!
What words were to be written on the plate of pure gold and to what garment was this
gold plate attached?

As I was preparing this lesson I thought that probably some of the participants of this
study might wonder why do I need to look this up? Why doesnt Cookie just give me the
information?
Answer: Because it means more if we delve into the scriptures and find the answers for
ourselves. Sometimes I might be able to enlighten details, but this information is written
for all to understand. It takes time, patience and a period of quiet to gather our thoughts
and let the Holy Spirit speak to us during our study.
I hope you have gleaned from this information and realize that our God is very detailed.
He cares about every little thing that goes on in our lives. As my mother always reminded
me, If its important to you, its important to God. Ive kept that as one of my lifes
mottos when bringing my burdens, cares and woes to Jesus, no matter how big or small.
But we need to remember that we should equally share all our excitements and
celebrations! God loves us to share all moments with Him!

Thank you, Father, for allowing us to open the scriptures and learn from these
priestly garments. Although this scripture is full of specifications, may it remind us
that you are a God of order. You designed this world with intricate planning and
exact details. If not, we would not be able, as humans, to live on this earth. Thank
you again, Lord, for being the great and mighty Creator God. In Jesus name, Amen.
