Author: Manuel O. Arines, MAN Yr: 2003 Conclusion: A variation in perception, though not so glaring, is noted in the staff nurses assessment of their nursing care competencies, with the staff nurses from public hospitals claiming to be excellent in planning and very satisfactory in assessment, implementation and evaluation, while the staff nurses from private hospitals believe that they are excellent in assessment, implementation and evaluation and very satisfactory in planning. There is significant relationship between the staff nurses perception of their competency in assessment and implementation, but relationship is significant in planning and evaluation. Likewise, the two groups of nurses possess similar work behavior characterized by professionalism and commitment to their mission as care givers. Recommendation: To minimize the discrepancy in the perception of nursing care competencies, the staff nurses must undergo in-house trainings on subjects related to their jobs as care givers. In this case, the human resource officer of each hospital must involve the nurses in planning and implementation of these training. Area of confinement determines the level of perioperative management along wholly-compensatory care and partly-compensatory care. 4. There is wide incongruence between the perceptions of nurses and patients as to the level of perioperative management. How nurses describe themselves as care managers can not really be seen, felt, or experienced by their patients.
