INTRODUCTION
Hotel and other commercial OPLs use many more chemicals to wash linens than people use in their washers at home. The hotel laundry fine-tunes its chemicals to ensure an effective wash that leaves linens looking as close to new as possible. In general, a laundrys chemical needs depend mainly on the types of linens it uses and the soiling conditions encountered. In addition, hotel OPLs use more alkali to enhance the detergents cleaning power. Alkali, however, is abrasive and must be neutralized with other chemicals. Generally, it is a good idea to deal with more than one chemical vendor. This ensures that you obtain good advice on chemical usage along with updates on new technology. However, juggling several vendors at the same time may not be the most effective use of the executive housekeepers time. Some executive housekeepers accept bids from chemical vendors and select one vendor as the sole supplier
for the upcoming year. This system works well as long as the vendor selected is keenly aware that if the propertys needs are not met, another vendor stands ready to do the job.
OBJECTIVE
To study the chemicals used in operation of commercial laundry. To study the selection of a laundry chemical company.

LITERATURE REVIEW
The following resource was developed for the State Coalition for Remediation of Drycleaners (SCRD) using material safety data sheets (MSDS) and other sources. The report was prepared by Bill Linn, Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). Scott Stupak, North Carolina Superfund Section, provided technical support for database development.
A wide variety of chemicals has been used and is currently utilized in drycleaning operations. Using material safety data sheets (MSDS) and other sources; a drycleaning chemical data base was developed that includes many of the chemicals that have been used in drycleaning operations. These data and the accompanying text are intended to aid those engaged in the assessment and remediation of contaminated drycleaning sites
