Questions for BSN III- Blk D Group 1 (Prepared by: BSN III-D Group 2)

Introduction- What is the Significance of the research to your participants? What are the (nursing) implications?-HAROLD Introduction- You stated that prostate cancer is a multi-step process involving genes that control cell differentiation and growth. How is it so? - (http://www.nature.com/scitable/topicpage/genetic-regulation-of-cancer-891)

This serves as a reliable source.

Introduction-Can you elaborate on the gaps that triggered this research? Page 1 paragraph 1- Since youve stated the worldwide and nationwide statistics of prostate cancer cases, are there any statistics involving the percentage of PUJ drivers who have prostate cancer? - May I recommend that you should include statistics about the percentage of PUJ drivers who have prostate cancer that may support the your study to make a clearer view and more elaborated statistics on the study regarding.-

http://en.wikipilipinas.org/index.php?title=Top_10_Causes_of_Cancer_Deaths_in_th e_Philippines_(2010) >>I believe this is a reliable source since it is Philippine based and its references are established.http://www.kjrh.com/dpp/news/local_news/2-Works-for-You-and-St.-Francis-team-up-forprostate-screenings-and-health-fair-in-Tulsa
Page 2 paragraph 2-What is the relation of Newman's Theory to the research? The paragraph is just a mere description of the theory - Please indicate the relation of the theory to your study.- EUGENE Page 2, Paragraph 4 - "Prostate Cancer is one of the most common cancers in men but is not perceived as troublesome unlike that of breast cancer..." What is your basis for saying this? May we know the RRL where the statistics on the level of awareness about prostate cancer are stated?-LIZ - Please indicate an RRL that will be a basis support the statement to provide an accurate statement on the study. Also please also provide an RRL on the statistics on the level of

awareness about prostate cancer to give us a clearer view about your study. Lastly may I suggest that you utilize this RRL entitled Awareness of Prostate Cancer among the General Public: Findings of an Independent International Survey by Claude C. Schulman, Roger Kirbyb and John M. Fitzpatrick that may support your study and it contains the statistics about the awareness about prostate cancer.-

- It is mentioned it is not perceived as troublesome as that of breast cancer because as we all know
breast cancer is the number one cause of cancer here in the Philippines, information dissemination is more effective in breast cancer than that of prostate cancer. People lack awareness thats why it is perceived to be not troublesome as compared to breast cancer. Although there are manifestations that will involve the urinary system, some people will just ignore it and regard it as normal. I would like to recommend that the group will find an rrl to support this in order for it to be research-based. (we as critiques shall also find an appropriate rrrl)-

Page 2, Paragraph 4 You stated in your output that Prostate Cancer is not perceived as troublesome unlike that of breast cancer, why did you state in that same page paragraph 1 that there would be manifestations that would complicate your urinary system, when in fact the urinary system is important? Is that not perceived as troublesome? Page 4, Paragraph 4- Can you further explain on what Slovins formula is? -It is use to determine the sample size. -When it is not possible to study the entire population, a smaller sample is taken using a random sampling technique. Slovins formula allows a researcher to sample the population with a desire degree of accuracy. It gives the researcher an idea of how large his sample size needs to be ensure a reasonable accuracy of results. Page 4, Paragraph 4 - Based on your output, you stated that, The sample size will be computed using the Slovins formula with 0.5 as the margin of error. Why .05 and not .01?
- In as much as you would like to use 0.01 it may be improbable to attain such minimal error in obtaining a good sample. Although 0.05 as the margin of error is fine, you might also consider 0.01 to achieve a strict result. Besides that, you dont have yet a sample size which will

determine the margin of error, because the larger the margin of error, the smaller the sample size should be. -LORIE

Page 4, Paragraph 1-What specific descriptive design will you be using and why? Descriptive correlational design. this design is to simply describe relationships among variables rather than to infer cause and effect relationship. Since , you are focusing on understanding the level of awareness of public utility jeepney drivers on prostate cancer which is a certain condition or situation, Page5, Paragraph 2, sentence 2-Why did you choose stratified random sampling and fish bowl method? I suggest that you add reasons why did you chose such sampling technique in a brief manner. You may also consider systematic sampling as well.-GRACE Page 5, Paragraph 2 sentence 5- Whats the significance of clustering the age into 1835, 36-55, and 56-65? I suggest that you can consider as your significance is that, as you manage your data , if the age group were clustered , youll be able to compare or know the difference on the level of awareness of the young adults, adults and the older adults. Page 6 of methods and procedures- What is your inclusion criteria?
- I would suggest that you cluster the inclusion criteria in the methods and procedure.

Page 7 paragraph 3- Why did you not consider standard deviation under the computation for your variability?
- You can also consider standard deviation since it captures the degree to which scores deviate from one another as stated by Polit and Beck, page 545.

Page 7, Paragraph 3- how can you measure the awareness of a person if the choices are limited (yes and no)? It was written there that categories that will be used are : Highly aware, moderately aware, poorly aware and not aware. Please elaborate on this statement and how can you measure it using just two choices - May I suggest that you further explain your method of computation, because since

the participants will answer either yes or no, it is unclear how that data will be categorized into the 4 levels of awareness that you have provided.-JUDITH

Page 8, Paragraph 2- Why did you use the f-test on the variable level of awareness based on educational attainment? - Since the hypothesis of the study is not plainly stated, it is hard to determine what

the null hypothesis is, and since the f-test deals with the null hypothesis in the text statistic please indicate what exactly the hypothesis is that you are testing. You should probably state the exact relationship that you are testing between level of awareness and educational attainment to help explain the specific use of the f-test.MIKEE
Page 8, Last Paragraph - "Analysis and interpretation of data will be based on statistical research." I understand that your method is a Descriptive Design, so what does this mean? What is this statistical research that will interpret the data? -Descriptive statistics analyses data that helps describe, show or summarize data in a meaningful
way. In descriptive statistic it makes data into simpler form. It is used to summarize large sets of quantitative information. May I recommend that you further explain and specify the statistical research that you will have to utilize in your research for us to understand fully the step on your interpretation of data. - Since the design is descriptive (as opposed to interpretive) please explain what will

be concluded from the data, or if the data will be analyzed please expound on the method or what statistical research the researchers are referring to.
Appendices, 1st page- Lack of exercise: Specify what kind of exercise. What if they perceive driving as an exercise? - May I recommend to you that you further specify the kinds of exercise that you have included in
your questionnaire for some may perceive their work as a form of exercise. Their daily activity or work is different from the exercise and these are some of the wrong beliefs that people has.

Questionnaire- Given that your questionnaires are in English, how about the jeepney drivers who are unable to read, or understand English?-KAYLA

-FAITH Back-up Questions:

Page 2 paragraph 3- Based on your statement "Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men..." may we know your reference for this and what is the significance of this statement to the study. This statement could be an eye opener to the public jeepney drivers that this type of cancer is common but not as troublesome as the breast cancer. And so that they would also have an idea how relevant your study is.

http://en.wikipilipinas.org/index.php?title=Top_10_Causes_of_Cancer_Deaths_in_th e_Philippines_(2010)
Page 3, paragraph 2 your related literature says that the screening tests are not preventive; instead, these are means for early detection. What are some screening tests for prostate cancer and how much do they cost? PROSTATE-SPECIFIC

ANTIGEN TEST and digital rectal exam. This tests would not cost much because it only uses an physical assessment and a laboratory test that uses blood extraction.

Page 6 paragraph 3- Wont asking the names of the respondents violate the principle of anonymity? What other ethical considerations can be derived from your study? - Privacy is also included in your study, since prostate cancer also includes the sexuality of men then its also better to include that. Confidentiality, it goes together with anonymity and privacy.-JORDI Page 6, paragraph 4-Why do you need to go 3-5 meters away from your respondents in the end you will see their answers. What if they have questions regarding your survey form? -You should stay a bit closer. Maybe you are trying to give the respondents privacy while they answer your questionnaire, but 3-5 meters is too much. At least if they dont understand a part of your questionnaire then you could assist them immediately.MERGEL Page 6, Last Paragraph (about the researchers saying they will try to encourage the respondents, if they ask the researchers to return again...) Is that the only way that you will deal with a participant who requests you to return the next day? We all understand that driving a jeepney is a busy task, but are they not any other ways to handle a situation like this? - We suggest that you can ask the jeepney drivers if they can set time in order for

them to answer the questionaires after you had explained all the details of your study for them also to think and reflect more about the decisions that they will going to make in the context of your study. Try also to give questionaires for jeepney drivers who are still waiting for their turn (as long as they are included on your sample population) to acquire passengers. This will give them time to answer the questionaires you had prepared. -IRENE

How do the researchers enhance the generalizability of the study? - The researchers can enhance the generalizablity of the study by using the

construct validity. Construct validity involves the validity of inferences from the observed persons, settings and cause and effect operations included in the study to the constructs that instances might represent.

How will your extraneous variables be controlled? - Since your study is about prostate cancer and only man have prostate

glands, you can control extraneous variables because the gender of the respondents are male, ages 18 65, public utility jeepney drivers and who lives in Baguio City only.
