CHAPTER 1 THE PROBLEM: RATIONALE AND BACKGROUND Statement of the Problem The main problem of this study is to ________(objective)________.

Specifically, it attempts to answer the following research questions:

1. _______________________________________________________________________? 2. _______________________________________________________________________? 3. _______________________________________________________________________?

Hypotheses Based on the identified research questions, the researchers formulated the following null hypotheses:
1. _______________________________________________________________________. 2. _______________________________________________________________________. 3. _______________________________________________________________________.

Significance of the Study (Inductive) This study on _____(topic)_____ has important implications in ____(specific beneficiaries of the research)_____because __(reason)__. Likewise, ___(topic)___ has strong impact in ____(existing kind of problem)_____ of the country like _______(specific examples of the existing kind of problem)__________. (Deductive) This study on _____(topic)_____ has important implications in ____(existing kind of problem)_____ of the country like _______(specific examples of the existing kind of problem)__________. Likewise, ___(topic)___ has strong impact to _______(other beneficiaries of the research)_________ because __(reason)__. Scope and Limitations This study is limited only to __________(objective)_____________ in the academic year 2011-2012. Only __(level)__ students officially enrolled at San Beda College Alabang will be involved. Random sampling will be used to get samples from the population wherein each student in the population has equal chance of inclusion. Lottery or fish bowl method shall be used in getting the samples. Each section of the level is assigned an identifying number. The identifying number may correspond to the total number of sections in the level. For instance, there are 12 sections in the 4th year level in San Beda College Alabang, hence, they are numbered 01, 02, 03, 04, 05 and so on till 12. To draw a sample of __(no. of respondents)__ from __(total population)__, the proponent will draw _(no. of sections to be drawn)_ sections. These numbers are included in the sample. Data gathering will employ questionnaire, which the researchers admit has the limitation of bias. Thus, the questionnaire will be supplemented by _____(other means of collecting data)________. Descriptive survey method with the use of questionnaire will be used in the study to determine the _____(topic)________ of __(level)___ year high school students of San Beda College Alabang. The results of the study will be interpreted with the use of ____(statistical tool)______.

Based on the above conditions, the findings of the study will be descriptive of the _(level)_ year high school students of San Beda College Alabang involved for the period of time which the investigation will be conducted in the year 2011. The results and conclusions drawn will, therefore, be true for this group of subjects and for the period of time. However, the results will be used as basis for similar studies that may be conducted at other times and in other schools. Pattern of similarities may be observed and made use of in any future plan regarding the ________________________________(topic)____________________________________ in other schools in the country. Definition of Terms For purposes of clarification, the following key terms are hereby defined: _____(Term)____. This refers to _______________________________ (Colliers Encyclopedia, 1998). As used in the study, it is the ________________________________________________________.
