CHAPTER 10 : SCALE DRAWING

A scale drawing is a drawing that represents the actual object according to a particular scale.

Scale =

Size of drawing size of actual object

Scale is usually written in the form 1 : n or where n = size of actual object

** If n = 1, the size of the drawing is equal to the object. ** If n > 1, the size of the drawing is smaller than size of object. ** If n < 1, the size of drawing is larger than size of object.

Examples * Scale 1 : 1 means the size of the drawing is the same as object. * Scale 1 : 3 means size of drawing is 3 times smaller than the size of object. * Scale 1 : means size of drawing is 2 times larger than the size of object.

Example 1 Redraw the following diagrams on a blank paper according to the scales given a) scale : 1 :3 6cm 9cm In the drawing : 9cm is represented by 6cm is represented by Scale drawing : 3cm (scale drawing is 3 times smaller than the original diagram ) 2cm
