3. HAZARDS IDENTIFICATION
POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS: EYE CONTACT: Particles may scratch eye surfaces or cause mechanical irritation. SKIN CONTACT: Low order of acute toxicity. Frequent or prolonged contact may irritate the skin. INHALATION: Negligible hazard at normal temperatures (up to 38 deg C). Dust may be irritating to the eyes, nose, throat and lungs. INGESTION: Not considered to be a hazard. CHRONIC EFFECTS: Contains petroleum coke. Animal tests indicate that overexposure by inhalation may cause lung effects and/or damage. The relationship of these results to humans has not been fully established. Contains polycyclic aromatic compounds (PAC's). Prolonged and/or repeated skin contact with certain PAC's has been shown to cause skin cancer. Prolonged and/or repeated exposures by inhalation of certain PAC's may also cause cancer of the lung and of other parts of the body. ______________________________________________________________________________
INGESTION: If ingested, keep at rest and call a physician. Do not induce vomiting unless directed to do so by a medical professional. ______________________________________________________________________________
5. FIRE-FIGHTING MEASURES
AUTOIGNITION TEMPERATURE: NOT AVAILABLE FLAMMABLE OR EXPLOSIVE LIMITS (APPROXIMATE PERCENT BY VOLUME IN AIR) Flammable Limits: LEL: NA UEL: NA HANDLING PRECAUTIONS / GENERAL HAZARDS: Material will not burn. Toxic gases will form upon combustion. EXTINGUISHING MEDIA AND FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES: Use water spray to cool fire exposed surface and to protect personnel. Isolate "fuel supply" from fire. SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS: Respiratory and eye protection required for fire fighting personnel. DECOMPOSITION PRODUCTS UNDER FIRE CONDITIONS: Smoke, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and traces of oxides of sulphur "EMPTY" CONTAINER WARNING: "Empty" containers retain residue (liquid and/or vapor) and can be dangerous. DO NOT PRESSURIZE, CUT, WELD, BRAZE, SOLDER, DRILL, GRIND OR EXPOSE SUCH CONTAINERS TO HEAT, SPARKS, STATIC ELECTRICITY, OR OTHER SOURCES OF IGNITION; THEY MAY EXPLODE AND CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH. Do not attempt to clean since residue is difficult to remove. "Empty" drums should be completely drained, properly bunged and promptly returned to a drum reconditioner. All other containers should be disposed of in an environmentally safe manner and in accordance with governmental regulations. For work on tanks refer to Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations, ANSI Z49.1, and other governmental and industrial references pertaining to cleaning, repairing, welding, or other contemplated operations. ______________________________________________________________________________

CLEAN WATER ACT / OIL POLLUTION ACT This product may be classified as an oil under Section 311 of the Clean Water Act, and under the Oil Pollution Act. Discharges or spills into or leading to surface waters that cause a sheen must be reported to the National Response Center (1-800-424-8802) ______________________________________________________________________________
Where only incidental contact is likely, wear safety glasses with side shields. No other special precautions are necessary provided skin/eye cont is avoided. Where concentrations in air may exceed the occupational exposure limits given in Section 4 and where engineering, work practices or other means of exposure reduction are not adequate, approved respirators may be necessary to prevent overexposure by inhalation. OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMIT: Exxon Recommends: For Delayed or Flexicoke generated coke, an occupational exposure limit of 2 mg/m3 (respirable) is recommended. For Flexicoke generated coke, 0.05 mg/m3 as (V2O5) is recommended. ______________________________________________________________________________
