The Blessings and the Fatigue of Freedom

View Edit Submitted by mlentz on Sun, 09/11/2011 - 11:40am Thomas Paine said, "Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it." Nearly every American will think about the 9/11 attacks today. Some will watch tributes and share thoughts, many will pray for our country and the families of the fallen. No matter how uninterested, distracted or busy they are it is nearly impossible to go through this day without a reminder that 10 years ago today America was attacked and America responded. It is true, we will never forget. Will the lives lost, the efforts to bring about justice and the enormous cost be all in vain? Will we remember this heinous attack from a temporary comfortable slumber as our country falls to ruin from within? That question can only be answered by you and I and the actions we will take in the next 13 months. Former President George Bush spoke at the memorial of Flight 93. It was a profound message that all should hear and it is linked at the end of this article. In his speech the president said, One of the lessons of 9-11 is that evil is real and so is courage. At the moment American democracy was under attack our citizens defied their captors by holding a vote. The choice they made would cost them their lives. And they knew it. Many passengers called their loved ones to say good-bye. Then hung up to perform their final act. The Flight 93 heroes led the first counter attack in the WAR ON TERROR. For many of us the opportunity and the responsibility to act will not come in defense of an attack from terrorists but most assuredly it will come in defense of an attack on liberty by our own out of control, spending us into ruin federal government under the leadership of one of the most UN-American presidents in history. Decades of progressive, liberal policies have brought us to the brink of disaster and a quantum decline in our way of life. For Americans today, there is no less serious a threat as there was on this day 10 years ago. You and I know it and many American's are waking up to this reality every day. Our country is in imminent danger of collapse not from an attack by terrorists which is still real and serious, but from within. In President Reagan's speech in 1964 he described it this way: "When Nikita Khrushchev has told his people he knows what our answer will be? He has told them that we are retreating under the pressure of the Cold War, and someday when the time comes to deliver the ultimatum, our surrender will be voluntary because by that time we will have weakened from within spiritually, morally, and economically. He believes this because from our side he has heard voices pleading for "peace at any price..." And therein lies the road to war, because those voices don't speak for the rest of us. You and I know and do not believe that life is so dear and peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery. You and I have the courage to say to our enemies, "There is a price we will not pay." There is a point beyond which they must not advance. Winston Churchill said that "the destiny of man is not measured by material computation. When great forces are on the move in the world, we learn we are spirits--not animals." And he said, "There is something going on in time and space, and beyond time and space, which, whether we like it or not, spells duty." "You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of

man on Earth, or we will sentence them to take the last step into a thousand years of darkness." Indeed, my friends, the time has come for us to rise to this occasion for we have come to the point that Khrushchev described where we are weak morally and economically. However we are not weak spiritually if by spiritual you mean the spirit of America and love for our country and its foundation. Decades of poor public education and rotten college history have rendered many Americans ignorant of our founding principles but a decade of war in the Middle East and the loved ones who served there have kept our patriotism strong. And so now is our moment. Will we give of our time and resources to the cause of freedom which in 2012 means defeating liberalism? Will we respond in proportion to the seriousness of the threat? To do so may require heroic measures. It may require the sacrifice of comfort and pursuits of happiness we have been free to engage in historically. No one person can do it all but all of us can do something. Will you do a little? Will you give until it hurts? Will you sacrifice your present comforts to ensure your children and grandchildren will also live to be free to pursue happiness? This is what it has come to. It for this moment in time that our generation is called. 2012 is upon us! Get informed! Get involved! Your local party needs you. Your country needs you and future generations are counting on you!
