Animation can explain whatever the mind of man can conceive.

This facility makes it the most versatile and explicit means of communication yet devised for quick mass appreciation. Walt Disney INTRODUCTION The project is developed by using 3D animation with the help of Autodesk Maya. This project is a small animation showcasing a toy truck hitting the dolls kept in a room. The idea and theme was chosen to keep the animation soft and smooth. The colours are chosen according to the kids theme since toys are involved. Anonymous cartoon characters have been taken for the making of the dolls. The truck has a bright colour and the walls portray a pink colour with childrens painting on them. The overall texture gives a look of a kids room with some toys. GOAL The goal of this 3D animation project is to develop 3D animation with some fun and excitement children use to have while playing with toys. The entire plot is brought to the target audience in this simple 3D animation titled Fun with Toys. The target audience can range from kids to adults for this animation but small children may find it more attractive since they associate themselves with the toys easily. OBJECTIVE In developing this 3D animation there are some objectives to be achieved. a) To develop an interesting 3D animation which may attract user especially children. b) To make use of new techniques not taught in the course. c) To entertain people watching this 3D animation apart from children.

DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION The most important part of any animation is the design and implementation of actual ideas. Sometimes it becomes critical to create a good design. Whenever a good idea is created, it is necessary to implement it correctly through the design phase but if the design fails to implement the ideas nicely the end product of the design is not adorable. There are things that designer and animator needs to determine and consider before go to the next phase after design. For example its necessary to ensure that the character can be animated smoothly and also need to determine the suitable colour to be used in the real animation. All of this is important to make the 3D animation being created are interesting and fulfil the objective of the project done. The project was divided into 3 phases: 1. 2. 3. Initial Phase Intermediate Phase Final Phase

INITIAL PHASE The initial phase for the project included to make the basic objects for the animation such as the face of the truck and its body parts such as the truck body and the tyres, the dolls, floor, wall.

Fig 1 The face was made by using a Polygon cube and extruding the face to give the shape of the truck face as shown in Fig 1. The highlighted part of the truck which has a curve was a new learning since it was not covered in the course material. Hence, to get the actual shape a polygon cube was taken and a CV curve was created in the shape of the curve shown in the figure. Further the CV curve was duplicated and lofted from the surfaces. A Boolean

expression intersection and difference was used from the Mesh menu to get the desired shape. Similarly the truck body part was created and the tyres were created by using polygon cylinder and bevelled at the edges. The body was not smoothed since the truck has a rugged body and has sharp edges and hence only bevelling was performed at the desired edges. The dolls were made using the CV curve and then revolving the curve from the surface menu. INTERMEDIATE PHASE The intermediate phase involved in choosing the right colour and pictures for the animation. A dark orange colour was chosen for the truck since its a vibrant colour and can be associated with the theme. Various abstract pictures were taken from internet for the UV texture of the truck and the doll. Pictures used for the UV texturing were in jpg format. Cylindrical mapping was performed on the tyres of the truck and the rim was also mapped through the help of a picture and similarly mapping of image was performed on the dolls. The walls were mapped by a pink picture containing butterfly on it to give the feel of a kids room. The floor was kept with a wooden finish. FINAL PHASE The final phase involved in animating the whole scene of the truck hitting the dolls and the dolls hitting the wall and getting bounced back on the floor. Also it involved in final batch rendering to get a final small animated movie. The motion of the truck was determined by the EP curve and the motions of the dolls were determined by adding keys at different intervals of time. With the help of camera and directional light settings the scene was animated and finally rendered to get the movie. SUMMARY In conclusion the whole idea of animating Fun with Toys was successfully implemented. From the designing phase to the implementation phase a new learning was achieved. The animation was kept quite simple and as covered in the course although new ways to animate a character would be useful.
