ASSESSING THE EFFECTIVENESS OF ONLINE E-LEARNING PORTAL FOR IT SUBJECTS FOR THE IT&M STUDENTS OF ADAMSON UNIVERSITY RATIONALE

E-learning has clearly become one of the most adopted learning frameworks for education nowadays. E-learning has become one of the innovations of learning and teaching for educational institution and it clearly defines a vast advantage of providing a newer form of learning environment for students and a great supplement for teachers. Several e-learning frameworks have also came out for the past few years and are both customizable and compatible for different lessons, topics and students. It has proven to be very effective for many educational institutions. The proposed e-learning system for Adamson University will be very specific for the use of IT subjects for the students of IT&M department of the College of Science. The E-learning portal will be covering major topics and subjects for IT students. This will further enhance learning capability on a new and better environment, providing student an enhanced learning method and for teachers with enhanced delivery and management of lessons. The proposed e-learning portal will also promote efficiency since it will be encouraging paperless examination and quizzes, online submission of projects and assignment, automated grading of activities, online forum for post and threads for students, ease access of lessons, discussion and presentation for both teachers and students, customizable working interface for each teachers allowing them to work on their own comfortable interface, user-friendly general graphical user interface for other users of the portal. The portal also promotes various test and assessment methods allowing versatility in assessment and examinations. The portal will also promote better management of student records. The proposed e-learning portal will be using Moodle framework as its platform which is open source and a lot more user-friendly compare to other known e-learning platforms. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY The main purpose of the study is to assess the effectiveness of the proposed e-learning portal system for IT subjects of IT&M students for Adamson University. The study aims to assess the effects of the proposed e-learning portal to learning major IT subjects for IT&M students compare to traditional and normal lesson and assessment delivery. Generally, this study aims to assess the effectiveness of proposed e-learning portal system for IT subjects for the IT&M students of Adamson University in terms of proving the improvement in lesson , requirement delivery and assessment for students and teaching performance and efficiency for teachers. RESEARCH QUESTIONS Specifically, this study aims to answer the following questions: 1. What is the profile of the teacher respondents in terms of: 1.1. Age 1.2. Gender 1.3. METHODS TO BE USED TO ANSWER RESEARCH QUESTIONS The questionnaire will be a major tool for data gathering. Data will be collected from student and teacher respondents to assess their improvement. The study will be conducted through a control group which will be using the traditional method of teaching major IT subjects and an experimental group which will be using the e-learning portal to teach major IT subjects.
