A screaming engine sings feverishly as you shift from one gear to the next. And at the blink of an eye, you command your vehicle to go from zero to rocket-speed, in a fury to conquer time on the track and the heated competition on your back. The WRC 2 FIA World Rally Championship takes you to 89 different Stages from the 13 countries of the World Rally Championships. You will be able to take on the stages with 32 different cars from 14 manufacturers, all recreated with incredible attention to detail: these include 300 HP WRC class racing cars as well as the support championships cars of the Group BWRC, PWRC and the Safari-WRC class cars. The Super Special Stages will prove to be the ultimate challenge to your driving skills. Hairpins, turns, bumps and jumps: make use of counter-steering and drifting to the max to make the tightest of turns and race like a true driving genius! Dont be afraid to put your skills to the test with a true off-road driving game: The WRC Rally School awaits to teach you the tricks of the trade and prepare you for The Road to the WRC, which will put you at the helm of a real team to become a WRC champion. Finally, once youre ready, you will be able to challenge the most talented and skilled drivers on the net!

MAIN MENU
From here you can navigate easily between the various game modes and the many options that the WRC 2 FIA World Rally Championship offers you. From left to right, you will find: The road to the WRC: take control of a real team and begin your climb to the WRC! WRC Rally School: learn the tricks of the trade to become a true ace in these challenges; Single player mode: face a single special stage, rally or an entire championship alone or race on a track of your choice in a time-challenge; Hot Seat mode: race your friends, in turn, just like a real rally (up to 4 players); Multiplayer mode: compete against another 15 drivers on the PlayStationNetwork - here you will also find the online rankings; My WRC: look at your stats and best times; Options: change the game settings. All game modes can be entered with any of the cars from the 4 championships of the WRC. Here is a brief summary of the classes: WRC The roads on this epic motorsport adventure range from the ice and snow of Scandinavia to the stifling heat of Jordan - over surfaces including packed ice, smooth asphalt and boulder-strewn rocky tracks. This year, the cars are still based on four-cylinder turbocharged production models, but the two-litre engines of old ones have been replaced by a 1.6-litre unit. The result is a car that reaches 100kph in about three seconds on all surfaces, able to power slide - when in the right hands - between the trees on a narrow gravel track under full control at more than 200kph.

SWRC The SWRC is for lightly modified cars homologated in the S2000 class. This category forms the basis for the premier World Rally Car class, although the World Rally Cars benefit from turbocharged engines together with other internal and external performance modifications. PWRC The PWRC is open to drivers or teams using cars homologated in the Group N category with four-wheel drive and two-litre turbocharged engines. These series are called production because the cars that take part are not heavily modified, unlike the World Rally Cars or Super 2000 machines. FIA WRC Academy The FIA WRC Academy will be the first step on the WRC ladder for young drivers and will give the stars of tomorrow an unrivalled opportunity to develop their talent on the world stage in an extremely cost effective way. The WRC Academy is a one make series where all drivers will compete with identical Ford Fiesta R2s prepared by M-Sport. To further level the competition, the cars will be fitted with control tyres from Pirelli. WRC Group B Join the incredible world of the WRC legends! Here you can use Group B cars of the eighties: monstrous power prototypes specifically built for rallies with more than 550 hps. Safari This class brings you back to the exciting and great feeling of driving a Safari car. All these cars took part to one of the toughest rally in the world: the East African Safari Rally. If you decide to try your hand at The Road to the WRC or the WRC Rally School youll find yourself driving a specific car or choosing one from a certain range depending on the

WRC RALLY SCHOOL

Rallying is one of the most difficult motorsports, given the extreme conditions in which you have to race. The WRC Rally School is the game mode that can help you to enter this world and to learn all the tricks of the trade, thanks to two different sets of challenges.

SINGLE PLAYER MODE

If you want to practice on a track or just start racing without the hassle, then the Single player mode is for you. You have several options to choose from, firstly, the type of race you want to enter: Single Stage Mode Each of the 13 rallies is made up of 6/7 special stages, choose the one you want! Single Rally Mode Race in the 6/7 special stages to set your lowest overall time; Championship Mode Experience the excitement of one of the 4 championships of the WRC circus and claw your way to the top of the rankings, point by point! Time Attack Mode Race against time, against your ghost or one you have downloaded from PlayStationNetwork. Career Mode The Road to the WRC is the Career Mode. WRC Rally School This gaming mode is designed to assist you with learning the basic rally driving manoeuvres needed to compete on the WRC 2 Special Stages.

10

In all modes except the WRC Rally School, you can modify the car set-up. Between one special stage and the next of a Single rally or championship, you will also have to deal with damage sustained by your car. In the Time Attack mode, to upload your ghost and download that of another player, you need an internet connection to a PlayStationNetwork account. Visit http:/ /playstation.com for further information. If you already have a PlayStationNetwork account you can automatically access online features. However, you do not need to be connected to the internet to save and load your own ghosts.

MULTIPLAYER HOT SEAT MODE

The Hot Seat multiplayer mode lets you challenge up to three of your friends, taking turns in a Single stage, a Single rally, or an entire Championship. One after another, you will race against each others times. This is the essence of true rallying!

MULTIPLAYER MODE
The online WRC 2 FIA World Rally Championship multiplayer mode lets you experience challenges against 2 to 16 players. You can try your hand at a Single stage, a Single rally (made up of two or more special stages), Super Special Stage, or a Championship. In a Championship you race in a series of stages, one for each leg of the World Rally (up to a maximum of 13 successive legs). The main screen of this mode displays various options, as outlined below: Quick match Select this option if you want to automatically join the first available game. Custom match This is a more complex version of the Quick match in which you can determine the characteristics of matches to search. The available lobbies will be displayed and you can select which one to enter.

11

Create match With the Create match option, you can create your own lobby and select the race type, race class, the maximum number of players and whether to limit the room to only your friends or allow access to everyone. Quick Match - Super Special Stage Select this option and the game will auto-find your next Super Special Stage race. Leaderboard Select to view rankings worldwide, download ghosts with the best performances. Who is the worlds fastest virtual driver? Find out using this section. Here you will find the times for each Stage, and you can filter results and view data about only you and your friends. You can also download the ghosts of other players to use in the Time Attack mode mode. The icing on the cake in the ranking section is the WRC 2 FIA World Rally Championship global ranking, which brings together ALL the worlds virtual drivers! Every time you participate in an online race you have the chance to earn experience points, the amount you receive will depend on your place, lead and results in the individual sections of a stage. The longer the Rally or Championship, the more points will be at stake. There is a ranking for each class (FIA WRC ACADEMY, PWRC, SWRC and WRC Group B, WRC, Safari), plus an overall ranking. When you gain points for a category, these also count towards your overall ranking. Point by point, your level will increase and you will become a true legend: will you succeed in reaching the 100th level and top spot in the rankings? Online stats Here you can check your stats for the online challenges you participated in.

MY WRC
This area of the main menu contains all your stats from your offline races: your awards, all your best times, mileage raced and longest drifts and jumps... theres something for everyone! Review pictures you take during the races!

OPTIONS
In this area, you can modify and customise the graphics, sound, game interface and control systems settings, including driving aids. You can also find out who worked so hard to bring you WRC 2 FIA World Rally Championship! (Game Credits).

CAR SET-UP
Before each stage, you can set-up your car to best suit the challenge that awaits you. You can save your custom set-up or load a preset one. The following parameters can be modified: Front & Rear Springs Softer spring stiffness (SOFT) is better on bumpy roads for more stability, while harder spring stiffness (HARD) is needed to go faster on flat roads. Front & Rear Compression Dampers Compression damper reduces the speed of the spring compression. Hard compression (HARD) allows a more accurate driving but makes the car unstable. Soft compression (SOFT) makes the car more stable but the driving results less accurate.

13

Front & Rear Rebound Dampers Rebound dampers reduce the speed of the spring extension. Hard extension (HARD) allows a more accurate driving but makes the car unstable. Soft extension (SOFT) makes the car more stable but the driving results less accurate. Front & Rear Roll Bars Roll bars reduce the roll motion of the car. A harder roll bar (HARD) gives more accuracy to the driving, but the car remains more nervous. A softer roll bar (SOFT) gives you less accuracy with driving, but the car remains smoother. Rear Downforce Low downforce (LOW) gives a high maximum speed, while a higher one (HIGH) gives more grip and traction. Max Steering Lock A higher max steering lock (HIGH) gives more steering angle to the car but less stability, while a lower one (LOW) gives less steering angle but more stability. Brakes Brake bias determines car behaviour when turning. A higher braking power on the rear (REAR) makes the car over-steering and skids easier. A lower one (FRONT) gives the car more braking power, especially on flat surfaces, but makes the car under-steering. Handbrake Strength The handbrake strength adjusts the behaviour when you use the handbrake. Higher strength (HIGH) means more reactivity, while lower strength (LOW) more modulation. Gear Final Ratio Decreasing the final ratio (-) gears are long for a higher max speed, while increasing the final ratio (+) gears are short for more acceleration. Gear Shifting Increase or decrease each gear ratio to have a long or short gear ratio for a race. Front and Rear Differentials The front and rear differentials manage the spinning of the wheels on the rear and front axles. An open differential (OPEN) gives more traction, but the car is more difficult to drive and control. A locked differential (LOCKED) gives less traction, but the car is easier to drive and control.
14

Central Differential The central differential distributes the torque to the front or to the rear axle. More torque to the front (FRONT) makes the car under-steering, while more torque to the rear (REAR) makes the car over-steering. Traction Balance 4WD cars can give more traction to front or rear wheels. With more traction to the front (FRONT) the car is under-steering but more stable, instead with more traction to the rear (REAR) the car is over-steering but faster on flat surfaces.

DAMAGE AND REPAIRS

In WRC 2 FIA World Rally Championship you will soon learn that you always have to push yourself to the limit, whilst also being careful not to damage your car. Leave the track one time too many and your cars performance could decline dramatically, ruining your chances on a Special stage at a critical moment. The consequences are not only aesthetic! There are nine main areas that can be damaged: Engine An engine properly working is fundamental to winning races. Damages can cause power loss, less acceleration, less speed and even the engine breakdown. Gearbox When the gearbox is damaged, some gears change can become slower or some gears can even become unavailable. Wheels Wheels are the point of contact between the car and the road. Damaging the tyres makes the steering less precise, making the car un-drivable. Brakes Damaged brakes make the car harder to stop and can change the balance while turning.
15

Cooling A damaged cooling system makes the engine overheat and increasingly lose power. Suspensions Suspensions can be damaged after violent landing or strong impacts. In case of damage the car loses stability while turning or over bumps. Steering A damaged steering makes the car less responsive. During turns tha car becomes harder to control and at lower speed the car will tend to go sideways. Electronics Damage to the electronic system gives problem to the visual instruments that show speed, rpms and gear, in case of semi-automatic gear the launch control system could malfunction as well. Chassis Damage to the chassis make the car more fragile and influence the aerodynamics of the car. Stability at higher speed can be compromised. A damaged car may force you to pull out, but between one Special stage and the next you will need your mechanics to get it back on the road: on the Repair screen, each area will display a bar showing its status. Depending on the damage sustained, the repair time required will differ: use this time wisely as you will only have one hour in which to make repairs. If you need more time, you will receive a time penalty on the next Special stage. Alternatively, you can select the Automatic repair option and allow your mechanics to carry out the repairs in the time they have available.

16

REWIND AND REPLAY FEATURES

WRC 2 will allow you to stop the game after a crash and rewind the sequence of events leading up to the fenderbender. Upon reaching the point prior to impact, you can re-join the race and alter your course to avoid the crash! The Replay feature allows you to view the replay at the end of any Special stage completed offline (in Single Player mode as well as Multiplayer Hot Seat mode). You can use 9 different cameras and you can speed up or slow down the action: you can learn from your mistakes or savour a manoeuvre carried out to perfection!
