Practice putting questions together in the materia medica and exchange them within class.
In question, ddx, identify the keynotes, tissue specific remedies, etc.

Provided class with multiple choice sample questions, match up sheet and fill in the
blanks sheets.

MATERIA MEDICA
Important in acute cases so you can select remedies by keynotes on the spot.
Need to be able to have acute recall of the remedies. Repetition and frequency of
homeopathy materia medica practice.

Ctrl find :burning – look at all the remedies where burning has come up, then look at all
the other sensations, modalities, tissue organs and other characteristics.
Make lists on all remedies that share each thing and then how they differ from each other.
(ie. How does one remedy have burning and how is the burning different from another
remedy that shares the burning).

Test is just on the remedies and there is 2 more classes in april like workshops that will
go over the materia medica.

Symptoms that you pick out on the remedy (keynotes and acutes quickly) don’t look at
the constitutional.
One to two keynotes, tissue affinities and modalities for each remedy.

Boericke and Phatak use for MM’s

Concordant – just look at what is italic or bold, cuz its too much so don’t go into much
detail.
Vermuleun

Coccus cacti – THREAD HANGING (so characteristic, only 9 remedies have this
symptom).
Whooping cough (ddx with drosera)
Extreme viscous mucus (ddx with stringy viscous mucus – like kali big?)

Anitmonium tart – don’t have the power to expel it. Can’t cough it up, see it in older
debilitated px’s or in children. Can hear the mucus in the throat, but can’t get it up. All
antimoniums hate to be looked at are irritable, can’t stand to be touched.
Feel so uncomfortable and irritated.

Bryonia – always expect < movement, > hard pressure. Can also be < touch (light).
Grumpy, want to be left alone.
Drosera – impt for whooping cough. Vomits at the end of the cough. Good for ppl who
don’t recover from chronic effects of whooping cough.
Cough is violent, intense.

Sambucus – suffocation, the person has to sit up to cough**. They turn blue. Losing
oxygen. Cyanotic. Has to sit up. Respiration arrested.

Bryonia – sits up to cough, but ** has to hold the chest and keep completely still. Hurts to
cough, so violent and intense that it rips the muscles then it is so painful and intense.

Capsicum – fly to pieces and explosive cough, tend to like hot spicy things

Badiaga (fresh water sponge) – mucus flying from more than one place** (not flying
pain). Expectoration from mouth and nostrils.

Grindelia – suffocative breathing. Wake up and stop breathing. Gasping for breath, have
to sit up to breath. Respiration arrested during sleep. < on falling asleep. Bronchial tubes
are full and maybe even gurgling.

Cuprum – lots of spasms, contractions and cramping. Person feels like they’re under
attack (intermittent).

Dioscorea – always has twisting, grinding. > stretching.

Kreosotum – breakdowns (think syphilis) a lot of saliva. Necrosis. Think of charcoal.

Skin that’s burned and gone charcoal. d/c’s are excoriating. Very damaging and
destructive.

Ipecacuanha – tongue is clear ** vomits, can’t stop, but clear tongue. Stomach feels like
its hanging (rare sx).

Carbo animalis – INDURATED GLANDS that burn *** the only remedy that has this.
Has to do with breakdown of tissue, disability. Decomposition.

Carbo veg – breakdown of tissue. Decomposition. No energy. Disability. Always need to

see something to do with air. They don’t have enuf oxygen in their blood, but they want
to have air. Want to be fanned, in a collapsed state, but need air. Feels cold, but want
uncovered. b/c they need AIR** gas and bloating, can’t get gas out (state of debility). Air
hunger** can have cyanosis, cuz circulation is very feeble. Corpse reviver, after surgery
if gonna die.

China – impt for ppl who breakdown and are debilitated after loss of fluid. (nursing
twins, loss of blood, chronic diarrhea) makes them in a weakened state. Malarial state
(antimalarial remedy). Feeling stuck with no way out, periodic with intermittent attacks.
Persecuted (chronically).
Cinum- Overrepresented for worms (china and worms). Over prescribed for worms.

Kali- phos – another burnout remedy. Frustration. >warmth, rest and nourishment (all
phos are better from rest). Nervous debility. A state of the nerve exhaustion.

Phosphoric acid – burnout remedy. The person gives to much then they become acid.
Mental first, then physical exhaustion. Impt in ppl who grow quickly, get tired and burnt
out from a sudden growth. Remedy for growing pains. Acids – the burnout is on every
level. Exhaustion of all the tissue, a breakdown of everything.

Arnica – influenza remedy too, but it doesn’t have the hard bed and cannot move.
Doesn’t have the rapid prostration.

Baptisia – Prostration is rapid (become weak really quickly). Collapsed state. Bed feels
hard, sore muscles. No strength to move or get up. Looks serious very quickly. The
person is in a serious state, influenza advances quickly.

Hepar sulphur – very similar to nux temperament. Irritable*** extremely sensitive to

anybody coming near them or to a draft. Pressure that’s ready to erupt or burst. This
remedy helps the fluid process to get out. Can also be used to take splinters out.
**Splinter like pain. Feels like a fishbone is in the throat.

Silica – can be used for foreign bodies to get them out. Feels like a hair is in the throat.

Colocynthis – wants to bend forward with abdomen pain. Cutting intense pain,
cramping. Have to stay bent forward. No grinding. Very good for gall bladder colic. Like
a nux temperament. Very angry and irritable with the pain***

Hydrastis – mucus membranes.

Hypericum – sharp, shooting pain. Nerve has been irritated.

Aralia racemosa – better slight expectoration** not better going to sleep.

Dioscorea – twisting and grinding** can be for any type of pain. Want to stretch out with
abdomen pain. Not irritable.

Apocynum – anytime you have kidney failure. Gastric irritability and mitral/tricuspid
regurgitation. Has a lot of dropsy, swelling as a result from kidney failure.
