Homework Agenda (1-1)


Homework #1: Due Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011 Write your introduction letter to ME using the 3-2-1 method o Include 3 things youd like to tell me about yourself o Include 2 things you enjoyed doing this summer o Include 1 thing you feel youd like to work and improve on during this year in English class. o Your response should be 1 full page in length (that means front and back, if handwritten) for credit Bring in all required materials as delineated on the class syllabus Homework #2: Due Wed., Sept. 7, 2011 Decorate your writing folder according to the following guidelines: o At least 5 pictures on the front that illustrate who you are o At least 5 pictures on back that illustrate your future goals/plans o At least 5 pictures inside that illustrate your secret self Get class syllabus signed!! Homework #3: Mon., Sept. 12, 2011 Complete your first essay on the topic you chose in class, having to do with either an individuals responsibility to society, the affect of power on the individual, etc. o Type your draft according to my type guidelines. Check your syllabus if you forgot! Homework #4: Due Tues., Sept 13, 2011 Independent Reading: Read at least 30 minutes from your chosen independent reading book and complete the following within your reading journal (RJ): o Choose an adequate section to quoteone that caused you to react in some way o Write an insightful response that illustrates your thinking, questions, etc. o Your response should be 1 full column in length for credit. Homework #5: Due Wed., Sept. 14, 2011 Read the short story Gaston o Remember, you should mark-up-the-text as you read! o In your RJ, identify all of the components of the narrative structure for the story (ie: what information constitutes the exposition, the rising action, the climax, etc.) Homework #6: Due Thurs, September 15, 2011 The Last Leafcomplete the reading (turn over)

o In your RJ, complete a brief character analysis (think characterization!), using evident/details from the story, for each of the following characters: Sue, Johnsy, the doctor, and Mr. Behrman. You should have at least 2 items per character. This should be in 2-column formatwhatever you pull from the text will go in the left column, and your opinion/response to the characters should go in the right column. Homework #7: Due Fri, Sept. 16, 2011 Independent Reading: Read at least 30 minutes from your chosen independent reading book and complete the following within your reading journal (RJ): o Choose an adequate section to quoteone that caused you to react in some way o Write an insightful response that illustrates your thinking, questions, etc. o Your response should be 1 full column in length for credit. Homework #8: Due Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011 Write about your perceptions regarding Childhood vs. Adulthood. You may wish to define each stage of life, explain the differences between the two (i.e.: what is gained? Lost?, etc), and provide personal references as examples. I am interested in knowing your views regarding coming of age. Be as detailed/explicit as possible to ensure my understanding of your views. o At least 1 page typed, following type requirements.
