HOM 202 Advanced Fundamentals Lecture 3

Questions at the start of class:

Pivotal point: point in life when you have the freedom to make a choice. Your responsibility as
a ND is to allow the patient to reach that point in their life to make a decision. Your
responsibility stops here.

With regards to quizzes:

References: what we will be quizzed on this week
Homework: for the following week

Imbegriffe: what is the cause, the creation, and the underlying motivational force. What is
creating and maintaining the state of health/disease. It can be generalized to anything, it is not
necessarily disease. I.e. what is the imbegriffe of lightening?

Aphorism 3:
Point 1: pathology, ddx, clinical observation – need the basic sciences to determine what is
curable in disease
Point 2: pharmacology, knowledge of materia medica
Point 3: adapting the remedy to the patient. There are ways to individualize the posology =
adapting the remedy to the patient. Some people require remedy every day for three days. Some
people need their remedy in water, or extra succession – this would be done for extra sensitive
people.
Obstacles to recovery: for example – a person is taking a medication that is covering up the
symptom. All symptoms, physical, mental, and emotional, are all interconnected so what is the
imbegriffe (chicken in the egg)? Hahnemann: the external stimulus versus the internal
susceptibility. I.e. physical illness manifests from a negative perception or disillusion. Person
has a predisposition to view their stress in a bad way, and this causes the ulcer. And so, treat the
underlying cause. If a person does not have the negative predisposition, and their mental-
emotional is healthy, then how do we treat the same physical manifestation? A remedy can
empower a person to change their own behavior, because before they thought they didn’t have a
choice. So someone with the similar disease (i.e. ulcer) need to find out if it the imbegriffe is
from a mental-emotional picture or from a behavior, like bad eating habits etc. So we need to
determine how much is internal susceptibility or purely external stimulus? External stimulus is
more difficult to cure because we have to remove the obstacle. I.e. shift work people. Hard to
get them to change their jobs. So we either treat the internal susceptibility (mental-emotional) or
try to use a remedy to empower the individual to change. So if someone drinks coffee, try to get
them to stop. If they say, I’m addicted, then you treat the addiction.

Introduction to the Organon: NOTE: He = Hahnemann

•Totality: connection of all organs and mental-emotional state.
•Signs and symptoms always manifest from an imbalance. I.e. you cannot have hormonal
imbalance without signs and symptoms (or it has not been observed yet in clinic by Dr Bakir
after 17 years).
•He does not disagree with looking inside to understand the patient’s condition. What he is
saying is that by looking inside, we are not finding the cause of disease. MD’s fail to recognize
totality and the energy – life force of disease. If you believe cause of disease is “inside the
body”, you are failing. We cannot “see” the cause of disease because it is energetic.
•Side note: physicists in Europe identified magnetic fields around tissue – can see the difference
between diseased versus healthy tissue. They were actually able to measure the difference in
frequency. This is significant because we talk a lot about vital force in naturopathic medicine.
Quantum physicists say that there is no such thing as matter. All matter is a bundle of energy
that creates a field and this field is perceived as matter. It is in our perception. How does this
impact medicine? This is the level at which homeopathy works. Read more on quantum physics!
