Is Jesus the literal Son of God or more than a man?

"Top 8 Reasons Why Jesus is not the Son of God" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdUXJoRqhyY Jesus was not the only son, and he was also not the begotten son. 8. not the only one to call God "father", he told all his followers to 7. "pais theo" = "servant of God" but has been translated to "son of God", 8 times in NT. 5 ref to Jes. Matt once, 4 times in Acts. 3 times not Jesus. 2 David: luke, acts. 1 Israel in Luke. 6. "huios" is translated metaphorically as " 'sons' of God' 5. scholars say "son of God" must be a metaphor because he would've been considered blasphemer and would've been executed 4. Jesus didn't call himself the "Son of God". Hasting's Bible Dictionary. Harper's Bible Dictionary. 3. Jesus called himself the "Son of Man" 88 times. New Catholic Encyclopedia 2. Jesus is called son of David 14 times in NT. Luke. in NT Jesus is asked about most important commandment, "Know O Israel, your God is One God" 1. many sons of God. Jeremiah 31:9, Romans 8:14, Exodus 4:22, Luke 3:38, 2 Samules 7:13, Genesis 6:2, 6:4, Deut 14:1, Job 1:6, 2:1, 38:7. Matthew 5:9

A hypothetical question to ask is: shouldnt the literal Son of God be just like God? In other words, Divine? And doesnt the Divine imply certain attributes, such as immortality, perfect knowledge, and perfect control of all things? These are not the qualities we see in Jesus. An entity is either Divine or it isnt. There is no half-divinity just as there is no half-immortality or half perfection. As Jesus was born of a woman and had every human normal

quality, it is clear that he was no more than a human being. He was born of a woman. He made mistakes (see the Parable of the fig tree). He wept. He prayed to God. He ate. He drank. And like other prophets, including Moses, he performed miracles by the leave of God. Which aspect of all these facts is not human? What part of this is Divine? 60 passages 12 books 47 chapters

John 10:31-36 clearly indicates that Jesus never saw himself as the literal son of God, just as God wasnt speaking literally when he referred to his prophets as gods in the Old Testament. With this line of reasoning, Jesus clears himself of the false charge of blasphemy that the Jews were attempting to stone him for:
The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him. Jesus answered them, I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me? The Jews answered Him, For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God. Jesus answered them, Has it not been written in your Law, I SAID, YOU ARE GODS? If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came and the Scripture cannot be broken, do you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, You are blaspheming, because I said, I am the Son of God?

Jesus never actually made the statement I am the Son of God. anywhere in the Bible. The term son of God is a figure of speech in the Hebrew language that was used to describe a righteous person, and was never meant to be taken literally. Other Biblical characters have also been described as the sons of God. The capital letters used to distinguish son of God and Son of God have no scriptural basis, and are based on the decisions of the Biblical editors, who have reflected their doctrinal beliefs in the translations. Why do I say this? Because the original Greek and Hebrew texts of the Bible dont have capital letters in their alphabets. Additionally, the miracle of Jesus birth was supposed to be that his mother was a virgin (the Virgin Mary), not that his father was God. If you say that Jesus was the literal son of God and that he was begotten, then youre implying that God has children, reproduces, and (God forbid) engaged in sex with the Virgin Mary. Sex is not a godly attribute, this is an animal attribute. Furthermore, it would mean that Mary wasnt actually a virgin. God can create by simply saying the word Be. And if anyone is adamant in their position that Jesus was actually begotten by God, I would ask them how they felt about Jesus returning to earth, having children by a woman, and dying. If you wouldnt accept the possibility of Jesus having sex with a woman and having children, how could you say this about God? Also, Jesus doesnt connect salvation and heaven to the belief in his divinity or the trinity. In fact, in Matthew 7:2123, he says:

Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles? And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; DEPART FROM ME, YOU WHO PRACTICE LAWLESSNESS. He never claimed to be begotten by God. The word Trinity isnt found anywhere in the Bible. The Biblical passages people use to justify the Trinity actually can't be used to support the Trinity. 1 John 5:7-8 was written into the margins of scripture by a scribe and has been removed in modern versions of the Bible. Therefore, it is invalid. Jesus called himself the son of man 88 times. Jesus never deified himself. He never called himself the Son of God. All 4 of the gospels have anonymous authors. Go to any seminary school and check for yourself. Refer to Christian scholars like Graham Stanton or Bart Ehrman. The Apostle Paul contradicted Jesus and the Law. He never met Jesus. He was not one of Jesus earthly 12 Disciples. He claimed to see him in a vision that took place after Jesus had already Ascensed. No true scholars say that the Spirit of Truth is the Holy Ghost. The word "Christian" appears 3 times in Bible, and was originally an offensive and derogatory title used for the followers of Jesus. Additionally, the term "Messiah" is used 38 times in the Bible to refer to others besides Jesus: it was applied 30 times to the

Davidic kings, 6 times to the high priest, and twice to the patriarchs of the Old Testament. the Greek word that is usually translate as son" literally means "servant of God", but is translated to say "son of God" - Mat 17:25, Luk 19:9, Mat 7:9, Mat 12:27, John 19:26, Matt 8:12, Luke 10:6, Luke 16:8 scholars say that "son" must be metaphor. would've been blaspheme, executed. The greek word huios = "son", figurative see Biblical references like Hastings and Harper. Jesus never says he is the "son of God", although this is what is translated into English. It doesnt appear in the original language of the text. Jesus geneology: luke, matthew Jesus is called "Son of David": 14 times

MATTHEW (5)
5:9
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God.

15:13 But He answered and said, Every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be uprooted. 20:23 He said to them, My cup you shall drink; but to sit on My right and on My left, this is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father.

26:36-39 Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to His disciples, Sit here while I go over there and pray. And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be grieved and distressed. Then He said to them, My soul is deeply grieved, to the point of death; remain here and keep watch with Me. And He went a little beyond them, and fell on His face and prayed, saying, My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will. (Would God pray or be grieved and distressed?) 27:41-49 In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. He saved others, they said, but he cant save himself! Hes the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, I am the Son of God. In the same way the robbers who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him. From the sixth hour until the ninth hour darkness came over all the land. About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI? that is, MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME? And some of those who were standing there, when they heard it, began saying, This man is calling for Elijah. Immediately one of them ran, and taking a sponge, he filled it with sour wine and put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink. But the rest of them said, Let us see whether Elijah will come to save Him. (Can "God" or "the Son of God" be forsaken by God? The Jews were and still are expecting Elijah to return before the end times.)

MARK (5)
6:15 But others were saying, He is Elijah. And others were saying, He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old. 8:27-30 Jesus went out, along with His disciples, to the villages of Caesarea Philippi; and on the way He questioned His disciples, saying to them, Who do people say that I am? They told Him, saying, John the Baptist; and others

say Elijah; but others, one of the prophets. And He continued by questioning them, But who do you say that I am? Peter answered and said to Him, You are the Christ. And He warned them to tell no one about Him. 12:28-34 One of the scribes came and heard them arguing, and recognizing that He had answered them well, asked Him, What commandment is the foremost of all? Jesus answered, The foremost is, HEAR, O ISRAEL! THE LORD OUR GOD IS ONE LORD; AND YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH. The second is this, YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF. There is no other commandment greater than these. The scribe said to Him, Right, Teacher; You have truly stated that HE IS ONE, AND THERE IS NO ONE ELSE BESIDES HIM; AND TO LOVE HIM WITH ALL THE HEART AND WITH ALL THE UNDERSTANDING AND WITH ALL THE STRENGTH, AND TO LOVE ONES NEIGHBOR AS HIMSELF, is much more than all burnt offerings and sacrifices. When Jesus saw that he had answered intelligently, He said to him, You are not far from the kingdom of God. After that, no one would venture to ask Him any more questions. 13:32 But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. 14:32-36 They came to a place named Gethsemane; and He said to His disciples, Sit here until I have prayed. And He took with Him Peter and James and John, and began to be very distressed and troubled. And He said to them, My soul is deeply grieved to the point of death; remain here and keep watch. And He went a little beyond them, and fell to the ground and began to pray that if it were possible, the hour might pass Him by. And He was saying, Abba! Father! All things are possible for You; remove this cup from Me; yet not what I will, but what You will.

LUKE (14)

3:33-38 the son of Amminadab, the son of Admin, the son of Ram, the son of Hezron, the son of Perez, the son of Judah, the son of Jacob, the son of Isaac, the son of Abraham, the son of Terah, the son of Nahor, the son of Serug, the son of Reu, the son of Peleg, the son of Heber, the son of Shelah, the son of Cainan, the son of Arphaxad, the son of Shem, the son of Noah, the son of Lamech, the son of MethuSelah, the son of Enoch, the son of Jared, the son of Mahalaleel, the son of Cainan, the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God. 4:1-14 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And He ate nothing during those days, and when they had ended, He became hungry. And the devil said to Him, If You are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread. And Jesus answered him, It is written, MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE. And he led Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, I will give You all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. Therefore if You worship before me, it shall all be Yours. Jesus answered him, It is written, YOU SHALL WORSHIP THE LORD YOUR GOD AND SERVE HIM ONLY. And he led Him to Jerusalem and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here; for it is written, HE WILL COMMAND HIS ANGELS CONCERNING YOU TO GUARD YOU, and, ON their HANDS THEY WILL BEAR YOU UP, SO THAT YOU WILL NOT STRIKE YOUR FOOT AGAINST A STONE. And Jesus answered and said to him, It is said, YOU SHALL NOT PUT THE LORD YOUR GOD TO THE TEST. When the devil had finished every temptation, he left Him until an opportune time. Jesus Public Ministry And Jesus returned to Galilee in the power of the Spirit, and news about Him spread through all the surrounding district.

6:35-36

But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. 10:21-22 At that very time He rejoiced greatly in the Holy Spirit, and said, I praise You, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants. Yes, Father, for this way was well-pleasing in Your sight. All things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son wills to reveal Him. 10:25-29 And a lawyer stood up and put Him to the test, saying, Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? And He said to him, What is written in the Law? How does it read to you? And he answered, YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR STRENGTH, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND; AND YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF. And He said to him, You have answered correctly; DO THIS AND YOU WILL LIVE. But wishing to justify himself, he said to Jesus, And who is my neighbor? 11:28 While Jesus was saying these things, one of the women in the crowd raised her voice and said to Him, Blessed is the womb that bore You and the breasts at which You nursed. But He said, On the contrary, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it. 18:18-22 A ruler questioned Him, saying, Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? And Jesus said to him, Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments, DO NOT COMMIT ADULTERY, DO NOT MURDER, DO NOT STEAL, DO NOT BEAR FALSE WITNESS, HONOR YOUR FATHER AND MOTHER. And he said, All these things I have kept from my youth. When Jesus heard this, He said to him, One thing you still lack; sell all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in

heaven; and come, follow Me. 18:35-43 As Jesus was approaching Jericho, a blind man was sitting by the road begging. Now hearing a crowd going by, he began to inquire what this was. They told him that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by. And he called out, saying, Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me! Those who led the way were sternly telling him to be quiet; but he kept crying out all the more, Son of David, have mercy on me! And Jesus stopped and commanded that he be brought to Him; and when he came near, He questioned him, What do you want Me to do for you? And he said, Lord, I want to regain my sight! And Jesus said to him, Receive your sight; your faith has made you well. Immediately he regained his sight and began following Him, glorifying God; and when all the people saw it, they gave praise to God. 22: 66-71
66 When day came, the assembly of the elders of the people gathered together, both chief priests and scribes; and they led him away to their council, and they said, 67 "If you are the Christ, tell us." But he said to them, "If I tell you, you will not believe; 68 and if I ask you, you will not answer. 69 But from now on the Son of man shall be seated at the right hand of the power of God." 70 And they all said, "Are you the Son of God, then?" And he said to them, "You say that I am." 71 And they said, "What further testimony do we need? We have heard it ourselves from his own lips."

23:34 But Jesus was saying, Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing. And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves. 23:35 And the people stood by, looking on. And even the rulers were sneering at Him, saying, He saved others; let Him save Himself if this is the Christ of God, His Chosen One. The soldiers also mocked Him, coming up to Him, offering Him sour wine, and saying, If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself! (The Jews tried to kill him to prove that he wasnt the Christ. Christ does not mean the literal "son of God", it means the "Chosen One" to rule Israel.)

23:37-38 and saying, If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself! Now there was also an inscription above Him, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. 23:46-47 And Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, Father, INTO YOUR HANDS I COMMIT MY SPIRIT. Having said this, He breathed His last. Now when the centurion saw what had happened, he began praising God, saying, Certainly this man was innocent." 23:56 Then they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment. (Jesus and his followers were practicing Jews who observed the Sabbath and followed the Law of Moses. Does God or the Son of God follow the Sabbath or the Law of Moses, a prophet and a man?) 24:19-21 And He said to them, What things? And they said to Him, The things about Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word in the sight of God and all the people, and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to the sentence of death, and crucified Him. But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel. Indeed, besides all this, it is the third day since these things happened.

JOHN (22)
1:12-14 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. 1:45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wroteJesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

1:49 Nathanael answered Him, Rabbi, You are the Son of God; You are the King of Israel. 1:51 And He said to him, Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see the heavens opened and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man. 3:2 this man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, Rabbi, we know that You have come from God as a teacher; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him. 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. (begotten is fabricated. according to Bart Ehrman? or RSV 1952? Probably both.) 6:14-15 Therefore when the people saw the sign which He had performed, they said, This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world. So Jesus, perceiving that they were intending to come and take Him by force to make Him king, withdrew again to the mountain by Himself alone. 6:37-39 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. 7:39-42 But this He spoke of the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. Some of the people therefore, when they heard these words, were

saying, This certainly is the Prophet. Others were saying, This is the Christ. Still others were saying, Surely the Christ is not going to come from Galilee, is He? Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was? 8:39-40 They answered and said to Him, Abraham is our father. Jesus said to them, If you are Abrahams children, do the deeds of Abraham. But as it is, you are seeking to kill Me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God; this Abraham did not do. 9:5 While I am in the world, I am the Light of the world. (Every prophet is the light of the world during his prophethood, until the next prophet.) 10:29-39 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Fathers hand. I and the Father are one. If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father. Therefore they were seeking again to seize Him, and He eluded their grasp. 11:39-42 Jesus said, Remove the stone. Martha, the sister of the deceased, said to Him, Lord, by this time there will be a stench, for he has been dead four days. Jesus said to her, Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God? So they removed the stone. Then Jesus raised His eyes, and said, Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. I knew that You always hear Me; but because of the people standing

around I said it, so that they may believe that You sent Me. 12:44-50 And Jesus cried out and said, He who believes in Me, does not believe in Me but in Him who sent Me. He who sees Me sees the One who sent Me. I have come as Light into the world, so that everyone who believes in Me will not remain in darkness. If anyone hears My sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world. He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day. For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me. 14:28 You heard that I said to you, I go away, and I will come to you. If you loved Me, you would have rejoiced because I go to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 17:3-4 This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. I glorified You on the earth, having accomplished the work which You have given Me to do. 17:11 I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are. 18:10 Simon Peter then, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priests slave, and cut off his right ear; and the slaves name was Malchus. So Jesus said to Peter, Put the sword into the sheath; the cup which the Father has given Me, shall I not drink it? 19:30-31 Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, It is finished! And He bowed His head and gave up His spirit. Then the Jews, because it

was the day of preparation, so that the bodies would not remain on the cross on the Sabbath for that Sabbath was a high day, asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away (The Jews wanted to take Jesus body down off the cross quickly because according to the Torah, leaving bodies hung on trees until sundown would defile the land. They hung him on a tree because according to the Torah, someone who dies like that is cursed by God.) 20:16-17 Jesus said to her, Mary! She turned and said to Him in Hebrew, Rabboni! which means, Teacher. Jesus said to her, Stop clinging to Me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, I ascend to My Father and your Father, and My God and your God. 20:31 but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name. 21:5 So Jesus said to them, Children, you do not have any fish, do you? They answered Him, No.

EPHESIANS (2)
3:14 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, (If Jesus is Divine, why doesn't Paul bow to the Son?) 4:5-6 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all. (This is monotheism, not the Trinity.)

PHILIPPIANS (1)

2:5-6 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. (In the form of God? What is that supposed to mean? Clearly Jesus never claimed to be God, but he was a servant of God.)

HEBREWS (3)

2:6-7 But one has testified somewhere, saying, WHAT IS MAN, THAT YOU REMEMBER HIM? OR THE SON OF MAN, THAT YOU ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HIM? YOU HAVE MADE HIM FOR A LITTLE WHILE LOWER THAN THE ANGELS; YOU HAVE CROWNED HIM WITH GLORY AND HONOR, AND HAVE APPOINTED HIM OVER THE WORKS OF YOUR HANDS; 2:9 But we do see Him who was made for a little while lower than the angels, namely, Jesus, because of the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, so that by the grace of God He might taste death for everyone. 10:12 but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, SAT DOWN AT THE RIGHT HAND OF GOD. (Impossible for Jesus to be God and also sit at His right hand.)

JAMES (2)
1:27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. 2:19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.

1 JOHN (3)
3:1-2 See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.

4:9-15 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has seen God at any time; if we love one another, God abides in us, and His love is perfected in us. By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 5:6-8 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. (Verses 7-8 are fabrications according to Bart D. Ehrman)
