Corruption Fosters Crime

What is corruption? How does it foster crime? How to eradicate corruption from our society? Corruption has become one of the leading problems within public and private sectors all over the world. Corruption is defined as the misuse of entrusted power for private gain. Corruption is an inducement to wrong by improper or unlawful means or dishonest proceedings. There are several types of corruption, such as political, bureaucratic corruption, bribery, extortion, favoritism, and embezzlement. According to the World Bank Institute, more than $1 trillion dollars are paid in bribes every year. Developing countries lose USD 50 million to 100 million through corrupt acts every year. Poverty fosters crime, and crime has a demonstrable nexus with terrorism. The symbiotic link to all these is corruption -- one that unites poverty, crime and terrorism. Corruption affects all regions of the world and all levels of society, but the impact is greatest in developing countries. Corruption exists without the presence of crime, but crime cannot long exist without the corruption. The media play an important role in bringing awareness to the public, by publishing cases of corruption in the newspaper, and broadcasting them on the radio. Corruption in local governments is found in relation to procurement and distribution of funds, due to lack of capacity and monitoring. Informal systems are of special concern to corruption and organized crime. Corruption manifests itself in various forms in Pakistan, including financial and political corruption, nepotism, and misuse of power. Citizens commonly face demands for bribes in their dealings with government institutions to access basic public services.

.

When we talk about the countrys tax authorities nearly every person had encountered corruption. The three government agencies; the police, power sector and judiciary are viewed as the most corrupt sectors in Pakistan. The three main reasons for corruption were the lack of accountability, low salaries and discretionary powers. Corruption in procurement has affected poverty, aid and development projects. The police department is thought one of the most corrupt institutions in

Pakistan. Appointments in the police force are often based on political considerations. Police officers frequently have conflicts of interest due to personal loyalties and family connections. The other sector in Pakistan which is seen as notoriously inefficient and corrupt is the Judiciary. According to 2006 survey, 96 percent of the people who came in contact with the judiciary encountered corruption. The procedure for selecting judges at the national level is not transparent and based on political favours.

A number of government employees, politicians and senior military officials are prosecuted and sentenced to prison due to corruption. Corruption affects politically, socially and economically stability and damages trust in institutions and authorities. It fuels crime. Terrorists and organized criminals are aided in their illegal activities. Corruption is of particular concern for the worlds police and judicial systems. Pakistan's main anti-corruption body is the NAB: National Accountability Bureau (NAB), which fights with corruption. NAB investigates and prosecutes corruption cases. NAB is taking steps to eradicate corruption from Pakistan. Corruption is not a rampant problem; we can eradicate it from our society and make a heaven down on the planet earth.
All countries should cooperate with one another in every aspect of the fight against corruption, including prevention, investigation and the prosecution of offenders. Furthermore they are required to do measures, which support the tracing, freezing of corruption. The introduction of a code of conduct is the one of the main tools applied internally by companies in order to prevent corruption. Measures suggested for combating corruption included more adequate salaries and a speedier judicial process. We need a speedier judiciary system, strong political commitments, true leadership, high moral values etc to eradicate corruption from our society.

If we cooperate one another, we will succeed in fight with corruption in our society. We will attain peace. INSHA ALLAH
