Arrow’s Power Supply Capabilities
From Concept to Production – Solutions to Match Every Requirement
At Arrow we understand the complex challenges of successfully selecting and designing in power
supply solutions - and seeing these designs through to production and beyond. That’s why we have
built an organisation that can meet the specific needs of our customers across the broadest variety of
applications, markets and geographic locations. And to ensure the highest levels of quality we handle
the vast majority of activity in-house. Modification and customisation work at our manufacturing facility,
for example, involves no third party involvement – all processes, from design and manufacturing through
testing and shipping to aftersales support, are owned and performed by experienced and qualified Arrow
personnel.
Whether it’s an off-the-shelf part, a modified standard product or a fully custom solution, Arrow has the
products, expertise, experience and capabilities to turn a specification into a deliverable on time and
within budget.
As the following pages illustrate, Arrow offers an extensive linecard of power conversion solutions from
some of the world’s leading power manufacturers, including Astec, Artesyn, C&D Technologies and Tyco
Electronics. The company also offers a range of standard power supply products from Power One.
From sub-1W DC/DC converters to high power AC/DC supplies, the Arrow linecard caters for the broadest possible
range of AC/DC and DC/DC conversion requirements. AC/DC power supplies cover power ratings from 16W to 18kW,
and include units designed for specific applications such as medical equipment or DIN rail mounting. Configurable,
modular supplies with high levels of built in monitoring and control functionality further simplify the specification of
implementation of optimised solutions. DC/DC converters comprise isolated and non-isolated Point-Of-Load (POL)
devices, cover many standard form factors, and include POLA™ and other power delivery solutions for the latest
processor and memory technologies.
Of course we recognise that, even with a linecard as broad as Arrow’s, there will always be some power
conversion applications where a non-standard solution is required. This is where Arrow’s services for
providing modified and fully customised power supply services can offer real benefits.
Modification and customisation services include everything from the ‘fine tuning’ of existing products to the design,
development and delivery of a fully customised supply. In addition, Arrow’s services also provide for the configuration
of ‘modular’ supplies, such as those from Astec and Power One, to meet specific requirements in terms of outputs,
power ratings, performance and control and monitoring functionality.
Arrow’s customisation and configuration services are performed by in-house design engineers based at the company’s
UL-approved manufacturing facility in Fremont, California. This facility, which is the largest of its kind in North
America, has been operating for over thirty years and has helped make Arrow the leading power supply distributor
in the US.

Tyco Electronics
Modular Power Architectures for Industrial Applications
Tyco Electronics power conversion solutions from Arrow provide all of the modules and components
needed to rapidly implement the widest possible variety of distributed power architectures (DPAs),
including those based on increasingly popular Intermediate Bus Architecture (IBA) configurations. IBA
solutions use a ‘single-output’ power supply to generate an electrically secure separate DC voltage,
which can then be distributed with low losses, even in systems with large physical dimensions.
Tyco products range from AC rectifier and front-end power supplies, to isolated, regulated DC/DC
converters, intermediate bus converters (IBCs), and Point-Of-Load (POL) DC/DC converters.
Tyco Electronics’ competitive and reliable EIPS family of RoHS-compliant AC/DC single-output power
supplies offers output power from 38W to 150W and generates output voltages of 24V, 12V, or 5V.
Tyco’s range of high power front-end power supplies provides power ratings from 500W to 10kW,
allowing designers to address a broad range of industrial, telecommunication and other power system
requirements.
The range includes rectifiers and modular power supplies, all of which are approved to relevant international safety
standards.
DC/DC Converters
Tyco’s DC/DC converter family includes isolated DC/DC converters in a variety of popular formats,
intermediate bus converters (IBCs), and POL devices. As a founder member of the Distributed-power
Open Standards Alliance (DOSA), Tyco is committed to ensuring compatibility and standardisation in the
increasingly fragmented power converter market.
Suitable for conventional DPAs and new and emerging IBAs, the Tyco modular power conversion family
includes a range of isolated DC/DC converters in sizes ranging from 1” x 1” to half brick formats.
Included in the range are a number of 1/8 brick and 1/4 brick format IBCs designed to deliver 9V and 12V
intermediate bus voltages.
Tyco’s Austin Lynx and Austin Lynx II Series of non-isolated DC-DC power modules are designed to
deliver ‘big’ power from a small space. Providing output voltages from 3.3V to sub-1.8V, these devices
are approved for global use in a wide variety of application categories, and address the low voltage,
high current requirements of the latest silicon solutions. The devices are rapidly becoming an industry
standard, and are already deployed at critical nodes in many distributed power architectures.
Available with a wide range of input voltages, including the new 24V Austin Lynx series, these modules can be used
in IBAs as well as conventional DPAs. A typical power architecture may, for example, combine the Tyco EIPS100
AC-DC converter, producing a stable 24VDC output, with individual 24V series Austin Lynx power modules supplying
one or more required voltage rails down to 3.3V.
When voltages below 3.3V are required, one 24V Austin Lynx module, in series with the AC/DC converter, can
be used to convert the 24VDC rail to a lower voltage, such as 5V. This provides the input to further Austin Lynx
converters downstream, generating the individual voltages including sub-3.3V rails as required.
