SUBJECT MATTER Water of Crystalization Water of crystallization is water that occurs in crystal but iis not covalently bonded to a host molecule or iron. Various salts such assodium sulphate, copper sulphate and sodium carbonate are in crystal that contain water molecule. This crystal called hydrate. The present of water content affects the properties of crystal.

L. INSTRUMENT Essay! 1. Calculate water mass percentage in hydrate salt MgSO4.7HO (Ar H=1, O=16, S=32, Mg=24). 2. If 38 g of MgSO4.XH2O is heated, 20 g of MgSO4 (Ar Mg=24, H=1, S=32, O=16) is produced. Determine the x value.

Key of Essay No. 01. Key Mr MgSO4.7H2O = 24+ 32+(4x16)+(7x18)= 246 Score 50

02.

Equation of MgSO4.xH2O heating is : MgSO4.xH2O(s) MgSO4(s) + xH2O(g) Moles of MgSO4 = Based on its reaction coefficient, moles of H2O = 0, 167x mol Mass of H2O = mass of MgSO4.xH2O(s) mass of MgSO4 = 38 g 20 g = 18 g X value can be calculated as follows: Mol H2O = = X= Total
