Introduction Greeting Presensi Apperception material formerly Students listen to teacher about this information: We know many kinds of fruits. There are apple, orange, tomato, mango, grape etc. How is characteristic apple? How is characteristik orange? Do both of them have the same characteristic? Every kinds of fruits has different colour, taste, smell and shape. Because of that we

wont be wrong to differenciate between apple and orange etc. Chemical scientist also thought same thing on chemical elements. From research, scientist knew that every element has different character. Can elements be classified as fruit? How the way to classify them? 2. Main Activities Exploration Students describe about the physical properties and chemical properties of elements. Teacher mentions some elements and ask some students to classify them into metal, non metal and metalloid Students listen to short description about periodical properties of elements Elaboration Students make group in to 4 groups as the previous meeting Students in each group discuss about the regularity of atomic radius, ionization energy, electron affinity and electronegativity based on the data/graph and atomic number Students are guided by teacher in discussion Each group make the report about the result of discussion then present in fron of class Teacher asks the groups to collect their report

K. SUBJECT MATTER Trends in the periodic table 1. Atomic Radius Atomic radius is the distance between outermost electron to the nuclei of the atom. The bigger the electron orbital is, the bigger the atomic radius. In the same group, the atomic radius increases from Up to bottom. It is caused by the increasing of atomic orbital, which make the distance between outermost electron and the nuclei further. In contrary, the atomic radius within the same period, from left to right, is generally decreasing. 2. Electron Affinity Electron affinity is the released energy by an atom in gas form, after it accepts an electron. In the same period from left to right, the affinity has increasing tendency. In the same group, from bottom to up, the affinity has increasing tendency. 3. Ionization Energy Ionization energy is defined as the minimum energy required for ionizing an isolated gaseous atom to produce positive ion. The ionization energy in the same period from left to right has increasing tendency. While in the same group from Up to bottom, the ionization energy has decreasing tendency. 4. Electronegativity The tendency of every element for attracting electrons is different. This value is called electronegativity. Electronegativity value is related to the electron affinity and ionization energy. In the same period, the trend shows ascending pattern fromleft to right. Within the same group, from up to bottom, it shows descending pattern. L. INSTRUMENT Choose the best answer! 1. In halogen group, element member with largest ionization energy is...... a. F d. I b. Cl e. At c. Br 2. If the atomic number of elements in one group is increasing, it means ........ a. Atomic radius is decreasing b. Ion capacity is increasing c. Ionization potential is decreasing d.
