The edge between the design practices and other fields having a stake in design, including: science, technology, government, business and nongovernmental humanitarian organizations. The edge between design disciplines, especially industrial, communication and interior architecture/design-what do they share in common and what sets them apart. Cutting edge work and ideas in design and in other fields: radically new, controversial, experimental, pushing the boundaries of the discipline.

In 2006, Taiwans Executive Yuan assigned the Ministry of Economic Affairs the task of integrating the resources and forces of various government agencies, design industries and academic institutes. Among 13 candidate countries and 19 candidate cities, Taipei, Taiwan was selected by IDA in 2007 to host the 2011 IDA Congress in Taipei with Taiwan Design Center as the citys representative body. The congress theme was declared to be Design at the Edge. The year 2011 marks the centennial of the Republic of China, and the Executive Yuan has designated 2011 as the Year of Design in Taiwan. A multitude of design activities have been organized and will be held all over Taiwan throughout the year. In October 2011, the Year of Design will come to a climax with the two major design events - the 2011 IDA Congress Taipei and the 2011 Taipei World Design Expo. The 2011 Taipei World Design Expo is the largest event among all the events scheduled during the Year of Design, and will span three large venues: Songshan Cultural & Creative Park, TWTC Nangang Exhibition Hall and TWTC Exhibition Hall 1. It will be the most important international event to be held in Taipei after the Deaflympics and Flora Expo. This event brings together businesses, design companies, design schools and design promotion organizations under one roof, who will interpret the theme Design at the Edges within the context of design beneficence, so that the general public can feel the pulse and power of design industries from around the world and admire the ingenuity and style of Taiwan designers.

Intl Industrial Design Exhibition
In Bliss
21 This exhibition is based on the theme In Bliss. Original Bliss, More Bliss and Ultimate Bliss are used to reflect the complex living environment today and to reexamine the relationship between the self and the outer world, and further explores the ultimate purpose in life and the essence of blissfulness. It is hoped to return to a place of true bliss. In order to provide the exhibition with a comprehensive program and to be in line with global trends, the organizers of this theme exhibition have invited renowned international and domestic designers to present and discuss the diverse design aspects of the 21st century from a peoples perspective, and to use good intentions (safety, universality, eco-friendliness, humane) as the design factor. Lets stride forward together to a beautiful life in the future.
Trans-evolving
The history of design tells the story of how our intelligence and creativity have evolved. When faced with reality and problems, we have always tried to find the best solutions, and we have enriched ourselves by integrating aesthetics and philosophical ideas. After the industrial revolution, there were dramatic changes in design, which had a deep impact on contemporary and future design trends. Reflecting on this interesting development, the theme of the exhibition is TRANSEVOLVING. The exhibition is divided into three main exhibit areas presenting three different periods of evolution in design: Classical Area, Contemporary Area and Future Area. The exhibition intends to explore the changes in design and production over the past hundred years, innovation and reaction of design concepts and the infinite variety of appearances presented by design.

Intertidal Age
Not a tsunami, but the design community is witnessing a series of minor waves that follow one after another. In a changeable environment or inconsistent circumstances, evolution continues, but communities may be overwhelmed by the high tides and be left dry during low tides! 100 graphic designers from around the world have worked together to present an era of new species full of vitality and revolutionary possibilities. All the graphic design works are displayed in one of 4 subthemes: warm true love, temporary heaven, magical connection and simple future, with their unique features presented in the form of continuous wave-like projections to illustrate the current era we are in.

The influence of foreign culture on the evolution of Taiwanese culture is evident everywhere. Since ancient times, the history of Taiwan has been closely linked to global economic and trade development, and because of its ideal geographic shipping location, Taiwan has been deeply affected by the convergence of Eastern and Western cultural influences. The Intl Interior Design Exhibition, as part of the 2011 Taipei World Design Expo, connects the relationship between Taiwan and the World from the perspective of Influence & Confluence to achieve a cosmopolitan status that defines Taiwanese interior design as the convergence of Western and Eastern cultures. Works of 10 international designers and 10 Taiwanese designers will present aspects of contemporary interior design under the influence of the present convergence of world cultures.
