POPULAR MUSIC (Muzik Popular) SMP2102 2 80 1 Student will be able to 1. understand the meaning of Popular Music and Popular Culture 2. listen different types and genres of music and talk about musical concepts and elements 3. understand and explain the musical concepts and elements 4. understand the theoretical aspect of Popular Music the music appreciation and music critic 5. do simple research on music appreciation theories and music critics on Popular Music 6. analyze and critic music base on Popular Music appreciation theories. 7. present their research on Popular Music genres, the music appreciation theories and music critics in class seminar. This course is to provide an outline history and theoretical aspects of Popular Music from the mid-twentieth century onwards. Students will explore some basic approaches to the historical study of popular music and how it influences World Popular Music and Malay Popular Music. Students will examine the interrelationship between musical, social, economy and technological factors and how they express cultural values and ideologies; use them as a way of finding their personal and social identity. Students will also acquire basic skills in written argument, referencing, discography collection and use of evidence and undertaking individual and group presentation. (Kursus ini memberi pengetahuan terhadap aspek sejarah dan teori Muzik popular dari abad 20an. Pelajar akan meneroka asas-asas pendekatan dalam sejarah muzik popular dan bagaimana ia mempengaruhi Muzik Popular Dunia serta Muzik Popular Malaysia. Pelajar akan melihat perkaitan antara muzikal, sosial, ekonomi dan faktor teknologi dan bagaimana nilai budaya dan ideologi serta menggunakannya bagi menterjemahkan identiti sosial.
