The atmosphere

4.500 millon years ago, the gases inside the Earth were released. The primitive atmosphere was composed of carbon dioxide, nitrogen, water vapor, methane and ammonia, without oxygen. After it formation, the Earth cooled gradually. Part of the water vapor was condensed, resulting in a long rainy period across the planet, forming the seas and oceans.

Oxygen appeared later when the first living beings came (very primitive bacteria and algae) that perform photosynthesis and release oxygen. The last layer of oxygen is ozonizer giving origin to the first biosphere and allowing life on Earth.

The atmosphere
The atmosphere is a gaseus layer that surrounds the earth. The gas mixture is called air, consists of:

78% Nitrogen (N2) 21% Oxygen (O2) 1% other gases, for example:
Carbon dioxide (CO2) Water vapor (H2O) Ozone (O3)

Structure The atmosphere is structured in layers: Troposphere: 0-10 km in altitude. Atmospheric phenomena are given. Contains the Biosphere.

Stratosphere: 10-40 km. Contains the ozone layer that protects us form dangerous solar radiation.

Mesosphere: 40-80 km. Sudden fall in temperature.

Ionosphere: 80-500 km. From here you will find the vacuum of space. Waves are trasmitted by communications satellites.

The Weather
Is the state of the atmosphere in a particular time and place. To determine the behavior of meteorologists, meteorologists studying temperature precipitation barometric pressure winds and humidity. With these data, weather predictions are made and are represented by: Weather maps Significant maps

The Climate Its the weather along a period of time in a region or area. To define the climate is used average temperature and annual rainfall. Is represented by climograms.

The air moves from areas of higher atmospheric pressure (anticyclones) to areas of lower atmospheric pressure (depressions). When the air cools, moisture can condense or freeze forming clouds, dew, frost or rain.

Importance of the atmosphere

Makes possible the life on earthe because: Reduces the temperature difference between day and night. It protects us from ultraviolet radiation from the sun. Store Oxygen and Ozone facilitates. Sin the atmosphere are produced all atmospheric phenomenon.
