Summary of Module Content: a. Functions and coordinate geometry b. Complex numbers c. Vector Algebra and Geometry in 2D and 3D d. Sequences and series e. Differential Equation f. Introducing MATLAB.

Module Aims: The aim of this course is to introduce and consolidate some mathematical principles. It will provide the students with the fundamentals mathematical skills required to solve problems arising in various fields. It also aims in solving mathematical / engineering problems using MATLAB.

Learning Objectives and Outcomes: At the end of the course, the students should be well versed with all the mathematical principles and applied the theories learnt that is: Understand, find inverse and sketch graph of functions Perform arithmetic with complex numbers and represent them in different forms and on an Argand diagram. Use De Moivres theorem and Euler theorem Do differentiation and integration involving trigonometric and hyperbolic functions. Do logarithmic differentiation and integration by parts. Use multiple angles to solve integration of powers of sines and cosines. Find magnitude of a vector, add, subtract and multiply vectors by scalars Resolve velocities Do Taylor series Identify and solve first-order differential equations. Find the complementary function and particular integral of linear ordinary differential equations using standard methods.
