What is Production Company?

A production company is a company responsible for physical production of new media, performing arts, filmmaking, radio or a video production to make a television program. The production company may be either a small company or a larger one, selling its products to afilm studio or presenting it at a theatrical venue, or, in the case of film and television, it may be the studio itself. A coproduction is a theatrical presentation or film made by more than one company or a Conglomerate of multiple companies

A production house is generally associated with in-house production. It can organize, make or telecast different disciplines of programs encompassing films, ad films, news, multimedia, sports or television shows. India is home to a number of prominent production houses from all the above mentioned disciplines. www.bestindiansites.com enumerates top ten Indian websites on production houses of India, information on production house, list of production houses, television production house, sports production

Important area of the advertising agency structure is the production department. As the name implies, it is concerned with the production of the advertising material. When practically all newspapers were printed by letterpress, the production department's main responsibility was to get the blocks made out of the artworks of the advertisements produced by the creative department and dispatch them to the newspapers concerned, according to the instructions of the media department. With the switch over to the offset process of printing, the artworks are now sent directly to the publishers for processing and printing.

The production department still continues to handle all print jobs with the help of the printers. It engages contractors to paint the hoardings from designs produced by the creative department, or for constructing exhibition stalls and stands, models and so on. Depending on the load of work involved, This department would have to supervise the production of audio-visual material, such as radio/TV spots and. films. With the increasing use of the electronic media, specialized departments have come up in the larger agencies to handle the work with the assistance of outside studio services and video/film makers. It is often simpler for the creative department to deal directly with the production of audio-visual material. The production department in such cases would come in mainly in the management area

AND ITS FUNCTIONING

Without hands-on experience, its difficult to feel in control of the creative advertising process when TV commercial production time arrives. It helps to have a little knowledge about the process. The work starts long before shooting and editing.

Develop the copy. This shows both the audio and the video, typically side by side in a columnar format so its easy to follow as the audio matches the video. A professional ad writer is key. Typically, this means hiring an experienced freelancer. Ad writers used by many TV stations are often relatively new to the field. Request for proposals. Experienced production companies gladly submit bids accompanied by written proposals for evaluation. Many advertisers prefer the expertise of independent producers versus TV station in-house production.

Preproduction conference. With the director and the producer, review their vision for shooting and editing the spot according to the copy. Experienced freelance directors can contribute surprising creativity.

Location and talent scouting. Ad agencies and production companies generally have staff or contractors who specialize in these functions. Review location photographs and audition reels to finalize the selections.

Location shoots. Plan on at least a day on location for a 30-second spot. Watch each take. Review tape of each good take to assure its the preferred quality. If a director wants another take, its usually prudent to assent its much more economical in both time and money to get more than enough video the first time around than it is to get into the editing suite and realize that another day of location shooting is required to finish the spot with the desired creativity and quality . Directors rough cut. Many directors prefer to do a preliminary video assembly before final editing. Generally, this will not include effects or transitions between shots, and typically does not include audio. Its the first tangible view of how the video will go together.

Digital editing. Final assembly of the video in its finished form is done through computerized editing that renders all effects and transitions. If the spot was shot on film, it is transferred to digital format through a process that preserves the film look. Its important to understand that in a spot with on-camera talent the audio goes together first, then the video is manipulated to match. Often an excruciatingly slow process, it pays advertisers to watch closely as each shot goes together into the finished product to assure a preferred level of quality and to prevent time-consuming and costly re-edits. This is particularly true when it comes to assuring accuracy of character-generated text that appears onscreen in the finished spot.

Post production. A professional audio production studio does a final edit of the audio. Digital time code locks each millisecond of audio to its digital counterpart in the video. Final audio editing is typically done while simultaneously viewing the video. The audio producer will add required sound effects and music to help dramatize the video. They will also equalize all the audio together into a harmonious whole that is as clear and vibrant as possible when broadcast on TV.

Master, dubs and distribution. The production company makes a master digital copy of the spot, and usually a safe copy as well just in case anything happens to the original master. The master is then used to produce enough copies of the spot for every TV station that is included in the advertising schedule. Because its a digital process, each copy is virtually identical to the master in every way.

ALL ABOUT FACTORS OF TV COMMERCIAL

For many companies advertising on television has never been regarded as a possibility, but now this is an option that is much more accessible than ever before!

Why advertise on Television?

Television is a powerful means of reaching a much larger market than many other forms of advertising. Television is an effective means of targeting both existing and new customers. Television advertising can be directed at a defined market audience. Television advertising instills the viewer with confidence in a product merely Based on the fact that it was seen on television. Television advertising has a lasting effect on the consumer's views (familiarity produced by seeing and hearing brands names on television will often effect choice of purchase). Research shows that television advertising often leads to an immediate boost in sales.

There are 5 basic stages in producing a commercial:

1. Initial meeting with the client: to determine the main factors in developing the commercial such as o the main objective o the target audience o the main point to be made o the duration o the budget

2. Production: Final arrangements will then be made for shooting and graphics and/or animations developed. Shooting will take place and all the necessary footage acquired.

3. Script development:
The draft script is produced incorporating the approach and ideas already agreed on after the initial meeting (re. locations, actors, music etc.). The script will be amended as necessary as ideas are developed, resulting in a working document covering all visual and audio elements of the production. Once the script is approved by the client, a copy is sent to 'Clearcast' (previously the BACC)* for clearance. Clear cast will advise us on any amendments required and we will produce an amended script if necessary, which will be presented to the Client for approval.

4. Post

production:

The footage will then be edited, and a soundtrack , usually comprising of music, voice-over, and special effects, will then be added as required. Client approval will be sought at stages appropriate to the development.

5. Clearance The client approves the commercial, agreeing that the set objectives have been achieved and that the client is happy for the commercial to be broadcast. Then a copy of the commercial is sent to the Clear cast for final clearance. Once the clearance is granted by Clear cast we will provide you with a Master of your commercial ready for you to submit to your chosen broadcaster. * Clear cast check television commercials for compliance with the BCAP Television Advertising Standards Code and Clear casts Notes of Guidance.

6.

What is the cost of a television commercial?

This is usually the first question we are asked. However, there is no such thing as a standard answer to 'how much is a commercial?' The cost is dependent on a number of key factors and can be divided into two distinct categories - Production Costs and Broadcasting Costs.

Creative Consultation

During the creative consultation process, the advertising agency or production company talks to the client about what the client wants to say with her television commercial. Clients need to advertise a new product or service with a memorable commercial that is entertaining while conveying important information. The production company writes all of the necessary points down and pitches ideas to the client based upon the information. After the client and production company decide on a few ideas that will work, the production company will go to work on the next steps of the production process.

Pre-Production

Production companies must perform a number of tasks before the cameras start running. The pre-production process includes scriptwriting, location scouting, prop collection, hiring actors, equipment renting and creating shot-lists. The pre-production stage is the stage in which all of the TV commercial's scheduling is created. Commercial shoots are planned down to the minute because time is literally money. If a shoot runs long, hiring actors, renting equipment and reserving locations will inflate your budget.

Production

The actual filming of the commercial takes place during the production phase of the TV commercial production process. The director coordinates the shoot using the shot list and shooting script. Actors give multiple takes for dialogue and actions specified in the script. Production for TV commercials can take a day or multiple days of shooting, depending on the length of the commercial and the intricacy of the script. Once all of the shots are filmed, the director sends the film, tape or video files to the editor.

Post-Production

The post-production process includes all video editing, sound editing and exporting of the TV commercial. Video editing is performed on a non-linear editing system (NLE). The footage is reviewed, and the best performances from the actors are put together by the editor. Once all of the video editing is completed, the sound is mixed to make the audio levels even. Music and sound effects are finally added to the commercial. Once completed, the commercial is exported to videotape or hard drive, depending on the needs of the TV studio, and delivered.
